All The World Is A Stage

Those outfit feels a bit more theatrical than what I've been wearing lately, but with my super short hair I can't resist hiding a bit behind a hat. I've owned this vintage beret for many years, but I've still only worn it a handful of times; I love how modern the stud detailing feels. We often forget that when we look at the past--the timelessness or even very forward-thinking appeal of certain vintage items. I think it's because the past was so backwards-thinking in some ways (social roles, etc) that we forget how adventurous people have nearly always been with fashion; that many of these trends we develop from studs to funny printed tights have actually been around for decades. Have you seen this video of bizarre hats from the 1950s? In some ways people nowadays play things so safe; we're constantly told a look isn't "work appropriate" or a funny accessory is childish, the list goes on as to why we should conform to some basic way of dressing that calls for very little use of imagination or creativity. Anyway, this is the sort of outfit I personally really love putting together.

Clinique lipstick
Tulle coat (from last year, similar here)
vintage Coach purse

Gwah! I love it! You are correct lady, this post reminds me of that movie "What a way to go?" and the "What will she wear next?" scene. Lots of crazy-beautiful outfits there.

Lovely outfit Rebecca, really great tights! How come you don't wear bright colours in tights anymore like the redor green pairs that you use to wear?

Your beret looks very unique. I love vintage stuff that has so much history. I like your coat as well. Your whole look just works.

@Anonymous, I don't know in most outfits the bright tights feel too "young" and the looks too juvenile.

I know what you mean about being told things aren't work appropriate or an accessory being too childish. It drives me up the wall! When I meet people like you at jobs or when I was still in school, I like to talk to them because they were fun and challenged the norm, in their own way! People like you are fun to be with and help me express my own quirkiness when I might be a little too afraid to!

That beret is too cute. Your right when you talk about "forgetting" how styles are sort of cyclical. Everything that's super hip and trendy now is totally what our parents were rocking in the late 70s, early 80s, with only some updates to cut and color combinations making any real difference. I love that our culture is so much more accepting of the so-called adventurousness of fashion, these days. Creativity isn't just confined to what you put on paper or produce with a camera, it's also about the ways you express yourself sartorially, verbally, and socially. So much goes into developing personal style.

But yeah, long-winded, roundabout way of saying you look adorable and I think your oh-so-clever. If you have a moment, I would love it if you would swing by my little baby of a blog and let me know what you think. I'm just getting started in the community and would love some feedback.

Thanks!
Liz

You know- in some ways you are definitely right about how today fashion can seem to be played very "safe." Interesting post as usual.

Also- adore the outfit, hat and all. The tree is pretty cool too.

While this outfit may seem slightly theatrical, I feel like it's oh so fitting on you Rebecca!
That coat is absolutely divine; the colorful houndstooth print and bright gold buttons make it seem so spirited and cheery while the unfussy cut provides needed structure. Your coat pairs perfect with the dress (from what I can tell), which also has pretty buttons and appears to be velvet? Whatever the case may be, the dress is something i definitely would love to wear and just yet another piece I want to poach from your closet!
As for that beret, there's much to say but I think you've already worded everything so well. Life is a little bit too moderated and structured nowadays; perhaps we should let go a little bit!

Since I haven't had a chance to tell you this yet, I'm absolutely adoring your new haircut! It's so ladylike and sprite-ish, making me which I had the capability to pull off such a darling 'do.
And while we're on the topic of darling, I would just like to mention that your shoes fall in the category, as does the background for these photos.
That tree!

Hope you're having a lovely week! <3
