The Sky Grows Dimmer And Dimmer

I keep spying mistletoe growing high on the bare branches here; small green leaves growing out of place on the dying hardwood trees. For all of our modern mechanisms, the best way to extract mistletoe is to shoot it down--in the South it's still harvested with shotguns. It just seems like such a funny tradition to me and a strange violence to proceed holiday kisses.

That is a very funny tradition, but hey, at least people won't get hurt fingers!

I love this outfit, I am not used to white dresses in winter, but you made me want to wear one of mine now. The cardigan and the scarf go so so well with it too. Perfect winter comfyness and style together.

I had no idea about that aspect of mistletoe... that's hilarious... I actually hope they never stop as it's so important to keep these strange traditions going.

I love these photos Rebecca. You've perfectly captured the wintery looking light!

What a nice outfit, and yes, that tradition does sound rather violent for something that is meant to be so sweet.

The first time my father told me he used to shoot down Mistletoe I didn't believe him. I've still never actually seen someone do it, but every now & then I see some in a tree and think about pulling out a BB gun for a try.
Love the red & white, the scarf is gorgeous.

Really cute outfit. The sweater reminds me of something from Hollister and the dress is super cute, I love the lace poking out from underneath. Nice post!

Gosh! I hadn't the slightest idea they shot mistletoe to make it fall! So funny! Just wish no birds are flying near when they do that! Love that cowl you're wearing, so warm and cozy!

Mistletoe and The Clothes Horse. Here in the deep woods of north western Maine, we dream of little else. You look like a little Christmas tree ornament. Great pix!

I love the idea of shooting down mistletoe. I wonder how they make a nice, clean cut?

I love the delicate white dress you're wearing. It adds such a nice texture to the chunky, winter outfit.

Looking great Rebecca! And I love your hair like this. I've been a fan of the blog for a while, just wondering: why can't I see the images in google reader?

@Natasha, I have the posts set up to do a summary in google reader--so you only get a small piece of the post. I just find Google Reader distorts the layout of the images & text flow; so I prefer it not to be read through that b/c it doesn't look how I intended it to...

Guns? To harvest mistletoe, how interesting. You look so comfy in that scarf.

I didn't realize mistletoe was harvested that way either!! How weird, but interesting.
