Short Story

This summer I've been quite determined to wear more shorts. It's easy for me to fall into a habit of throwing on dresses, but there are a number of neglected shorts I have accumulated over the years or in recent months that ought to get some attention too. However, I think these shorts illustrate why I don't often wear them. They get so wrinkly and the pleats are so awkward! I don't know if I should save them and try some different styling options this fall, or get rid of them...I'll probably just throw them in the bottom of my closet for now and avoid any conclusive decision.

I have the same issue with shorts, but I have like 4 pairs! Those are cute, though. Maybe try ironing them with a little starch and see if they last longer?

I love shorts! And I think this pair will look great with a chunky brown sweater and some fun tights in the fall.

My shorts get wrinkly and such too, but I still wear them. I try to iron them when I can. Also, I love these little red shorts on your! So cute!

I thrifted a pair exactly like these this summer but had to get rid of them because they made me look much larger than I am. I am posting an outfit photo today with a similar problem with pleated shorts. I'm wondering if having big hips kind of excludes me from this particular trend. I honestly think you look lovely in shorts, I hope you find a pair that you like!

I'm anti-steaming or ironing unless it's silk or thin chiffon/organza, and it drastically needs it (mostly on tops or dresses), but on bottoms? Pointless.

I love these shorts, but you're right, they do pleat a little weird. If you're not likely to get lots of use out of them, I'd put them in the sell pile. That's how I feel about it. Cute, but if not lots of wear over the next 12 months... ditch.

@Lauren, I don't think it's your hips--it's the shorts! I mean, I have boyish hips (someone told my mother that not a single woman in our family has a proper pair of hips) & they still look weird on me. So I blame the shorts--only suitable for girls with 0 curves and 10 feet tall. :)

I totally want to wear shorts but because of the fact that i think my legs are so skinny and pasty white, I haven't had the guts to go out and buy some to wear without wanting to wear tights underneath them. But I must say these look very cute on you!

I absolutely love shorts! The thing is, I'm very picky about them. I don't want them too roomy nor do I want them super skin tight and extra short. I've recently just cut up a bunch of old jeans and even my little brothers' old pants into high waisted shorts and they sort of suffice.

I think you look lovely. And the shorts are awesome. As for the wrinkles? I think they are the sort that we women only notice on ourselves, but not on others!

You have fabulous red hair! And your red shorts look perfecto ;)

hmm for some reasons I don't wear shorts as much as I like either. Maybe because where I live is usually too cold for shorts. And dresses are just easier! I like your shorts though, eye-catching colour is always a plus. I say keep it and you'll never know when you feel like it again. :)

I think the problem with these shorts is that they kind of swallow you up=. You're petite and the pleats are very large so they just look out of proportion to your frame. And then all the extra fabric just gets wrinkled. That's my two cent worth:) The color is fabulous though. Maybe they just need some tailoring in the hips and they'd be good to go!

Cut out the middle and turn it into a skirt; it would make a lovely skirt and the pleats won't be awkward.

I used to be the same about shorts, but I have become obsessed this summer! I think high waisted ones tend do best in black and gray; other colors do well a bit lower. They're just nice because if you get a good pair of dress shorts, then you get compliments from adorable elderly women who say they've never seen anyone look pulled together in a pair of shorts before! Haha! Also, they are comfy and good for running around in.

I wish I didn't have such wide hips so pleated dress shorts like this would actually look good on me. You look fab, btw!
