Darkness Is A Harsh Term, Don’t You Think?

So, I'm wearing my newest cape out and about which is always a good thing. It's funny to me how popular capes are on the interwebs right now, yet how ostentatious and flat-out odd I can feel when I wear one of mine out. Ultimately, my dislike of sticking out like a sore thumb is mitigated by my desire to wear clothes I enjoy...like my capes.
I'm also returning to other things I enjoy and have strayed from: books and music. I'm currently reading and enjoying two novels (two because one is too large to carry in my purse, but I don't like to leave the house without some reading material), often while listening to mix CDs from friends. The alliance of the two is especially sweet to "rediscover." Lately, all I want to do is sit somewhere cozy with my headphones on and a book in my hands. With my book and music suggestions coming from friends in faraway states it also makes me feel connected to individuals I'm quite separate from.

What a lovely cape! And what a lovely thing to be doing with your time! Enjoy it! I do wish I had more time for this sort of thing! Though I could never really listen to music and read...it would get all jumbled in my head!

I'm still on the hunt for a good cape, the only one I found is more decoration than warmth. My mom bought me one the other day that was so HUGE it looked like I had a tent on....needless to say I'm still searching. I love the all black look. Very pretty.

I love your cape, and your flats are so cute. Your hair looks so gorgeous as well x

How many capes does this make now? I found a ton of amazing ones on ASOS, but I can't buy them, since I'm on a shopping ban. (I can justify, however, a $30 foundation, as it lasts me a good 6-8 months.)

I would kill for a cape, but I need a true and proper winter coat. My coats can't handle the current 25F and driving wind and snow climate we're getting blasted w/ in Detroit.

This looks like such a perfect Holiday Cape.

Lovely, lovely.

I've tried to rock the cape trend but it's just not working out for me. I like jackets and coats, big plush things. I don't think capes keep me all that warm.

And just by your title, I can tell what music you've been listening to. Mumford & Sons, ftw. :)

Lovely outfit with a really nice setting. I've recently stopped reading so much, but I hope to rediscover it soon like you!

I recently bought a wonderful cape, and I agree that it can feel a bit odd. Sometimes it makes me feel like people are staring at me and thinking that I'm strange... but after a while, I forget about all that, and just enjoy feeling adorable in it. :)

Your cape is gorgeous! I find that sticking out like a sore thumb has its benefits---you look cool and your clothes get to be the start of your conversation :)

You should share some of the bands or artists that you like from the mix CDs you have!

I have to agree, capes IRL get you stares. At least where I'm from! I really like yours, I can't believe you won it in a contest. Jealous...

Ahh, the amazing cape again.
A lot of people here in London are wearing capes this year, but I think the climate here is really too cold... certainly at the moment!

P.S. I really hope you do get a carousel horse for your someday-home! My childhood dream was to have a merry-go-round in my back yard. ; )

A cape seems perfect for book reading and music listening

but what are the 2 books you're reading?

"... and yet it dominates the things i seek."

i love mumford and songs to bits and pieces.

have you heard laura marling's music? she did an album with them, and the dharohar project,
and it's quite amazing.

*mumford and sons.

Love it :) Looks just beautiful on you.

Sort of reminds me of the stares I got wearing an Austrian hat in Austria. Over here in England it 's just a felt hat but in Austria it 's so old-fashioned teenagers will stop and point LOL

That is an awesome coat.

I'd really have to roll my eyes at anyone so uptight that they'd stare at a cape...unless they're staring because of desire for one, of course.

Oh how lovely! Your beautiful hair just pops against the black cape!

Love the title of this post and your outfit! I'm a bit obsessed with Mumford & Sons right now, I've listened to their album nearly everyday since I bought it a month and a half ago.

hello hello! i recently found your blog and really enjoy it. the only thing better and cozier than reading and listening to music in the winter is doing both while drinking tea. :)

Hey Becca (do you go by that?)
Maybe I completely missed a post or two, but what exactly are you up to these days? I'm also enjoying the resurgence of a number of activities like reading (what are you reading?? and listening to?) but this coincides with the Summer break and temporary unemployment aheh. Would love to know :)

Love this outfit that cape is spectacular! I feel strage when I wear mine too! I think it is because I don't wear any garments that fit like that, so i'm not used to so much fabric around me!

What a gorgeous outfit!
Ah... capes... I really want one! However, I'm not sure where to find one, as I'm not really a huge shopper for one who really likes clothes... My only accessible store is my mother's closet...

I have a cape and it's beautiful, but not very practical. I can't ride my bike or drive a car when wearing it, plus my arms are really cold.

So pretty! I love your cape! And I know what you mean, things can be so popular/common in the blog world, but it's a different story when you're walking around your own town! I lovvvve these tights, also!

You smile more when your friend is taking your pictures :)
I also love capes, though I couldn't find the perfect one for me yet (within my budget!)

I really want a cape this winter. Yours is lovely. <3

I love music and reading. At the moment I am reading The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, since I haven't read it for years and years. I'm planning on finishing it before I see the movie.

why would you blog about books and music and not tell us what you're reading/listening to .. i'd sure love to know. :)

i feel like many fash bloggers have to eschew normal standards for daily style in order to wear what you love! i hope you continue to dress in capes and elbow gloves and fancy shoes!

i quite feel the same way about my cape, except it goes to my knees and has a hood. i look like a goth little red riding hood. my french grandmother bought it for me before i moved to england. she said, in her heavy french accent, "this is for when you are walking along the moors."

your cape is lovely, though! especially the lining, how sweet.

I love it! Sooo cute! I've been dying to get a cape, but I'm struggling to find the right one. After seeing your pictures though I'm definitely going to start looking a little harder.

yes sometimes, all you need is some good music, a good wool on your shoulders and a good book :)
