So this little beauty I'm posing on is called a sally port; your vocabulary can expand so much when you move around to odd places. This is one of the few entrances into the moat which you can narrowly drive your car through (the red car in the first photograph is a good distance outside of the archway). Since we live inside the moat, I go through this little archway several times a day. Recently they started looking in the moat for unexploded ordinances from as long ago as the Civil War (this place was first fortified in 1609). However, what they have been pulling out of the moat is far more amusing than dangerous: a shopping cart, old bicycles, and a flat screen tv? Why would someone throw any of those things into a moat...?

Love your sitting on the rooftop photo! And how did you manage to get that beautiful photo?? :)
Very cool location (and great trivia to boot!)
I've never actually realized that moats exist in a non-Medieval, historical context. It seems like moving around so much affords you such great opportunities to explore... definitely kind of jealous.

I'm always impressed by your photography, but - like many have already said - this series of pictures really stands out! I love the grand scale of them.
To everyone who asked: I tried out a new remote for these images. It expands the area I can photograph, but I don't really like how the focus came out...
Something about living *IN* a moat is just so enchanting... I can't stop thinking about it.
Can you do more photos around the area?
It almost feels like you live in a rural part of northern England!
