After a late summer trip living in a suitcase and mostly wearing black, I'm quite excited to be dressing in colors again. Although I'm still living out of suitcase so the same clothes I've been wearing for the past 7 weeks still must be remixed for a couple of weeks yet...This fall I want to focus on interesting colors and unusual combinations. So, this peachy nude blouse and luxurious gold velvet dress at the Family Affairs studio really made me swoon. Erin and Nina convinced me that the blouse looks best buttoned all the way up (I'm usually partial to an open collar). I can't wait to wear this outfit with orange tights, brown shoes, and my Gardens of Whimsy wreath once the weather gets a little cooler...The Toujours Toi little ghost necklace seemed an especially apt addition considering my destination that day.

Absolutely love that you took pictures in a graveyard! I've always shied away from velvet but seeing you in that beautiful colored dress, I might have to go out and buy myself one!
Cemeteries, personally, creep me out and I wouldn't really want to take any pictures there regardless of how amazing the tombstones may look.
But, I love love LOVE the silhouette of the dress, its very pretty. I also like how everything is bright in an otherwise dark place.

God, I loved this dress from the moment I first saw it, and it looks amazing on you! It's so gorgeous! Things can't get much classier than golden velvet now, can they?
I know what you mean about buttoning the collar up all the way. I used to have hair that was your length, and it's now nearly a boys haircut, and I think with shorter hair it's easier to want to button it up fully. With long hair its like too many things crowding around your neck. It looks great either way! : )

the dress is nice, but i think it's a bit tacky to shoot pictures of yourself in a graveyard - if i was visiting a grave and someone was holding themselves a fashion shoot it would be a bit hurtful, don't you think?

@ellio100, I get where you're coming from, but it depends on the cemetery and the shoot. The cemetery I visited is one tourists visit b/c of several histortic Americans buried there and frankly, only someone's great-great-grandchildren could visit to pay their respects. I also don't consider it a "fashion shoot" to photograph myself with a tripod briefly as I tour the grounds...it's really no different from the dozens of people I saw snapping pictures of the Francis Scott Key grave, or photographing other parts of the cemetery. If it was a more modern, private cememtery frequented by people who actually knew the deceased, I wouldn't have done this there--but I didn't choose the location on accident or luck.
I've also worked on service projects cleaning and restoring cemeteries. I'm comfortable in them and I have a deep respect for them. I don't think there's anything wrong in trying to show the beauty of a space most people fear, avoid, and neglect. Even this one had spots with memorials falling down and trash; that is much worse than someone photographing a cemetery.
I would never intrude on someone's private moment at a grave, or anywhere else for that matter with a shoot.
Everything about this shoot is beautiful. I can understand why people might be offended by you shooting in a cemetery, but celebrating a beautiful yet sombre location here isn't a crime, especially if it inspires such a gorgeous shoot. I want to do a similar one myself, have a gorgeous graveyard near my home. I often go there to think, it's very soft and quiet, and a good place to reflect. Besides, I don't think of the people under the ground as being there, I think of them being everywhere. (google lyrics to a song called 'the dead are not dead')
Anyway, I won't wade it. I love this shoot. End.

It sounds like you did it thoughtfully and respectfully. Thanks for your response, it was really interesting to get more detail about why you shot there. I've taken pictures in Père Lachaise in Paris when I visited, so now I get where you're coming from a bit more.
