The Looking Glass So Shiny and New

Since my outfit shots have been less than stellar lately, I thought I'd share a mini-photoshoot and video I made right before I left the States today. I did pack my tripod in my suitcase, but I haven't quite dragged it around with me yet...
On the dress: when I was younger and lived elsewhere there was this cramped, little store full of finds from India. It was one of my favorite stores and I liked to buy mirrored purses and quirky jewelry there. Obviously the magpie tendency runs deep as this is many years later and I couldn't resist another shiny piece. This dress is from Built by Wendy and is slightly more demure than a disco ball...

Outfit details:
Modcloth blouse
Built by Wendy dress
Cynthia Rowley tights via Gilt
Bloch wedges via Gilt

With the help of my father and a second tripod (so I could shoot the majority of the film on my own!), I made a little movie of some of my picture-taking process. People are always curious as to "who" takes my picture (even though I stated it in my profile to avoid the much repeated question...), so I thought I'd let everyone see some of the behind-the-scenes legwork.
*The song in the video is Rabbit Heart by Florence and the Machine.

Great photo shoot, and I love the video. It doesn't take any of the beauty away from your shots, but it does show the hard work you have to put in to get them!

The video shows how much effort you put into your photos. I wish I had that much patience! I love the dress :)

oo I love the way your dress sparkles in the sun!

How long does it take you to do one photoshoot like that?

Oooh, shiny! Love your dress!

That video was a real treat. For one thing the music and the way it was edited looked very professional and easy-to-watch. It was cool getting a behind the scenes look! I have to say you look pretty graceful even between shots, whereas I look drunk or zombie-like in my outtakes. XD

That's the same I do it (except sometimes I use a remote). It take longer than some people think. Nice vid!

The photos are so pretty, I really love that dress and like you said it is much more demure than a disco ball. :)

It was cool seeing the video of how you take your pictures, I think I read somewhere before that you used a tripod.

Oh and I have to say I adore the locations where you take the pictures. ^_^

I adore South Asia and Middle Eastern garments! I have some pieces that are westernized because I simply don't think I can pull of wearing anything too traditional since I am not of any of those descents! I like that shiny dress a lot :)

I love the dress and I love the way you wear it! And the video is amazing! I can't believe that you always take your own pctures with a tripod. You are really good on that :D!

Love this! Your videos are the best.

Although this one makes me wish my Cynthia Rowley tights didn't fall victim to a carpet nail...

I loved watching this, I wish I had such a gorgeous backdrop to take my photos. I can also see how precarious you said it can be with your tripod and camera so close to that lake!

That dress also reminds me of Christopher Kane x Topshop, with the mirrored detail!

Wow, you are bold to have your camera so close to the water! I've lost a camera to a pond before and I'm way too paranoid now, haha. Luckily it was just a point & shoot, and not something more expensive! I'm glad you've been posting videos, they're so cute.

You are so cute. And what a lovely dress. But i think you are looking a little bit shy at the beginning of the video. Are you really that shy?

Leigh said...

I love the setting you had in the pictures + video! Would love to be by the lake/sea with a book and some apples :)

Rebecca, The Clothes Horse said...

@Vali, Oh yes I'm totally that shy. I stare at my feet a lot in public, blush, and am terrible at making conversation.
