I saw the line "smiles woven in every stitch" on an vintage ad referring to gingham, but I thought polka dots were an equally cheerful print. The daisies that seem to be blooming everywhere lately continue the blithe theme. However, since I'm not really a sunshine and unicorns kind of girl, I tried to keep the look grounded with lace-up heels and a black belt (my new favorite). Whenever I wear vintage I don't actually want to look like I fell out of a vintage ad or movie, so I like mixing in unexpected elements or mixing different periods. I love the fashions of the 20s or 40s, but I wouldn't trade my current decade for anything. While we might be known for our ugly tracksuits or simple jeans and tees, we also don't have a strict style code. I definitely prefer the sartorial freedom that allows people to wear jeans to the grocery store or on a night out, since it also means I can mix style inspirations and wear a hodgepodge all my own...

I completely agree with your analysis of fashion evolution, and how it is actually amazing to live in such an era. I myself have uttered the famous phrase "I was born in the wrong time" when discussing my own fashion sense, but there is nothing more liberating than sporting sweats and a T to a co-ed college class.
On a less philosophical note, I love the shoes! the heel seems really manageable and I love the laces. Great post!
I feel the same way about living in this decade. As much as I covet the wardrobe of vintage movies and old family photos I do enjoy being able to mix all of the decades without anyone batting an eye. And I think I would be lost without the Internet...
I find your so adorable blog! Your dresses are all more beautiful the some than the others! And you are quite attractive:)
Bravo:)

This belt is really beautiful. I always love how your photos seem to be telling a story no matter how simple. :)
That feather headband looks so wonderful next to your haircolour - somehow I've never been able to make them work *sob*

I agree! A lot of people say they want to live in the decades from which their favorite fashions come from, however they rarely think of the pressure and female oppression that went along with them.
I think that you have a perfect balance here, I really like those shoes, I am going to have to hunt some down.
I agree with you about our time. I love it that a girl can walk outside and hangout with friends wearing sweats and no makeup, looking like a neutregena ad, and another girl can wear heels with pears on the same street.
love this little number on you! I dont know why Im so attracted to patterns lately
the shoes and belt are to die for - i love it

I love your shoes!
Adore this look! The dress is sweet but with the big belt and shoes it's toughened up just enough.
I never quite got any of the longing I hear from other girls to live in the past because "fashion was better." Okayyyyy, way to simplify the struggles of women with a chirp of "Pretty!" I'll stay in 2010 when I can do what I want, within the law.
I agree with you... it's great to have all of the past and the present at our disposal... and I especially love the lace insert near the top of this dress.
Also loving the purple nailpolish!

That dress is fantastic, I love it styled with that belt. I'm also determined to see the movie you mentioned above, looks like a really moving and thought provoking film!
That belt really is fantastic.
Hodgepodge is how everything should be. Keeps you open minded to fresh ideas and amazing possibilities!
The outfit is stunning!

I wore my vintage polka dot dress today too, so cheery!
Absolutely adore the dress! It's beautiful. I never would buy anything vintage before because I was so worried it would inevitably make me look like a fell out of a vintage ad, luckily have moved past that.
& on a random note, I'm pretty sure you're my movie soulmate. I don't think I've ever disliked any of your movie picks. More often than not they're favourites of mine.
beso giveaway winner?
?.?
@Anonymous, if you're the same anonymous who asked yesterday, I answered you in the comments in that post. Basically, I don't always (and lately I don't ever) post the winners. They are ALWAYS (even when posted) contacted privately. The winner has already been notified and has received their prize. The same with the Talonalia winner (or rather their prize is in transit since it was so recent).
