Get Me To The Church On Time

One of my sisters is officially a married lady! The special event that brought family members and me to Indiana was her wedding. It was a beautiful day, but it is all very surreal to me. At one point during the ceremony one of the other bridesmaids whispered to me, "this is really happening" and I still have a hard time comprehending that. I will now be addressing my letters, e-mails, and packages to my sister with a different last name than the one we grew up sharing! It was also the first wedding I've ever attended (everyone finds this hard to believe) and (obviously) my first time as a bridesmaid in green with big, curly hair. My mother and other sister kept calling me a "leprechaun." Comment or compliment?
The ceremony flew by, just as the pastor had warned it would at the rehearsal. That made me appreciate the time we had spent together making the bouquets and boutonnieres, and decorating the church and reception hall. The reception was incredibly fun and as typical with family get-togethers: full of characters. My French septuagenarian great-aunt got wild on the dance floor and declared, "I'm a spring chicken!" That was only one of only many entertaining one-liners I heard over the course of the evening. One oft-repeated line was from my sister's friend was, "Modest is hottest." A new slogan for the old blog (I think not)? Although it was my first wedding reception, I think it is safe to say it was an exceptional one.

my auntie, who is only 14 years older than me and therefore more like an older sister than an aunt, got married a week or so ago, and I agree, it IS very surreal (it was my first wedding too). When you think about it, a marriage is just signing a piece of paper, and it just all felt so unreal and strange - lovely too of course :) and you in your bridesmaid dress look absolutely gorgeous x

congrats to your sister! I've only ever attended one wedding, for my former nanny, and that was 10 years ago, so I don't find it that surprising you haven't been to many weddings. I don't people get married so young these days anymore, so its unlikely we'd be attending tons of weddings of our college peers! You look great in that bridesmaid dress, you look stunning in the olive color!

Weddings make me so sentimental, remember when my sister got married I almost cry just thinking about it.
Looks like you had a lovely time, and you look so pretty! I really like your green dresses, it's a bit different, but beautiful. And the bride off course!

I've been to a few weddings but none that hit as close to home as this one. If one of my siblings or close friends got married it would definitely feel surreal. But really great too!

You look extra beautiful. Your hair is so dramatic and the dress really brings out your eyes.

Ive been to many weddings, but this was one of the prettiest I've seen. Lovely bride and lovely sisters. Music was great---different. I especially liked the pro and re cessionals. Enjoyed seeing you as a grown woman---last time I think you were a pre-teen. The green of your brides maid dress suited you perfectly. Best to you and to the new couple. Cousin Pat and Dan

Both you and your sister look gorgeous, congrats to her! Your dress definetly does not fit the steryotype of ugly bridesmaid dresses, and you hair looks amazing all curled like that, you should do it more often!

I guessed it was a wedding when I saw the flowers post! It reminded me of weddings in my family because more often than not when one of my family members has a wedding they go to the big discount flower place, buy up a whole bunch of flowers and then my dad does the bouquets (he worked in a florist shop way back when!). I love weddings and it looks like your sister's was a lot of fun :)

I was in a wedding on Saturday too! You look beautiful and it was kind and benevolent of your sister to choose bridesmaid dresses that are pretty. I am sure you'll find a way to wear it again.

I took your advice and I am picking things back up, I think.

Compliment I say, you look gorgeous as does the bride!

Erin Cathleen said...

Aw, I knew it was a wedding! ^_^ Your sister certainly made a beautiful, bridal magazine-worthy bride! And you were a lovely bridesmaid (which is not an easy thing to attain!). I just attended a wedding in IL myself and was also a maiden-in-waiting... and it was sweltering! Lovely. My fifth and final time as a maid (I hope). These pictures are gorgeous and I love your red hair with the green dress! You look like a wedding woodland fairy. ^.^

Lauren said...

I don't understand why modern brides still universally adopt their husband's name. As long as we're no longer exchanging property between men, I'd rather honor my own heritage. But in a pleasant twist on wedding traditions, she chose such lovely dresses. What an unusual color! The last wedding I went to had the bridesmaids in off the shoulder orange ruffled dresses which were just as comical as you'd imagine. That eye for style must run in the family.

eleanor said...

my sisters wedding was equally surreal! but it's fun being a bridesmaid.
don't you look stunning!
