To My Quick Ear The Leaves Conferred

the clothes horse, personal style, fashion blog, family affairs brand, velvet dress, emerald velvet, apron dress, tea for tillerman, vintage, retro, vintage fascinator, seychelles heels, metallic clogs
If the fact this dress was velvet and came in bright emerald wasn't enough to convince me to buy it, this descriptor on Family's Affairs site would have done the trick, "Bonnie and Clyde having caviar and vodka on the Transibirian Express to Budapest." It conjures up a beautiful image of inspiration and fantasy. Bonnie and Clyde also happens to be one of my favorite films for style inspiration and Budapest is one of the most gorgeous cities I've ever had the privilege of visiting. All this clearly makes the dress fated for me. It is cut really low on the sides, which is a cool detail, but a bit scandalous for me, so I'm wearing a slip. If you haven't been able to notice by all the Family Affairs pieces I've been adding to my wardrobe, I'm a bit obsessed with them. Everything they design I want to wear. End of story.

I love the accessories you paired with the dress. They all fit together seamlessly. I also know what you mean about descriptions selling you on the dress almost as much as what the dress actually looks like.

Thank you so much!
I just discovered your blog, and as another girl in WA state, I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am to find someone else around here that loves clothes, too!
I don't live in Seattle, so most of the people I know would be more comfortable in birkenstocks and yoga pants than a cute dress and flats.
Thank you for that.

A green velvet dress instantly brings to my mind the one Scarlett O'Hara made from her curtains. My favourite film scene EVER if you ask me, it's pure "everything will be better if I can just have a new fabulous dress" fantasy.

You look beautiful.

Indy said...

Wow, that dress was made for you! The color and detailing are just gorgeous.

That description perfectly fits the dress. I want to take a train to Budapest! But a plane to Washington would also be pretty cool, if I could see such beautiful forests as those. And of course you! You look stunning.

that color! Fabulous.

This dress is such a pretty style, even though I don't like velvet! It looks so pretty but I have a weird texture aversion to it. The green looks fantastic against the lush greenery of wet and rainy Washington... The color is these photos is just dessert to my eyes! And the color of your nail polish is quite like the trees! I also really like your hairpiece.

Mandy said...

pretty girl and green clothes ;)

Passport Smiles said...

Emerald green is one of my favorite colors. Of course, it's also a complimentary color to your hair, so you couldn't go wrong. The hairpiece is quite to die for as well.

P.S.-- Bonnie and Clyde are quite an inspiration for me too. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway had the chemistry.

I adore this skirt length on you! Sometimes I wish that style bloggers would try to not wear so many short skirts, and try styling some longer hemlines. Sometimes I feel like the short skirts are cop-outs and that girls feel like the don't have to style them because their legs are their accessories.

Morgan and Lua said...

Green is my favorite color. You did such a great job of pairing the different shades in this outfit. I guess nyc has terrible vintage shopping because I have never seen a fascinator except in the blog world.

Where'd you get your slip? I'm looking for a nude colored one and haven't owned a slip since Elementary school! ha
