I Could Not Find A Privacy From Nature’s Sentinels

As threatened: I have shortened my dress and regardless of anyone else's views, I like it even more now. This outfit is inspired by my favorite dress from when I was little: it was white lace with red ribbon details. I liked that dress so much I wore it for three birthdays in a row, even after it stopped fitting me...well, it seems many years later I have found a suitable replacement.

Outfit details:
customized vintage dress
Modcloth necklace
We Love Colors tights
filigree ring via Gilt
Made Her Think Spike ring

The hem length hits just right now... and you did it with a lace dress too, kudos!

I think the bright red tights go perfectly with the soft lace. So pretty. :)

I definitely prefer it shortened too. Would you consider wearing it as a wedding dress? It looks like the perfect wedding dress now in my opinion! I like the color of tights you chose to wear with this dress. They really prevent it from looking washed out which can be a problem on these dark and rainy Washington days, eh?

If someone happened upon you in the woods, they might think you were a mirage or a fairy or a character that had popped right out of a storybook.

I'm dreaming about a dress like this one!! I'm in love with white and lace dresses! And you have great shoes too *3*
I want to see the dress from your childhood, do you have some photos? ^^

I'm so glad you shortened the dress. I know that some people may be cringing, but I like that you've made the dress modern and sort of given it a new life. :)

And the photos are so dreamy! You look just like a wood nymph, straight out of a fairy tale.

Gorgeous! I really like that you shortened the dress; it suits you (and the dress' lines) very well. Although I adore and collect vintage, I always am of the mind to make something work for you if you love it, even if it means tweaking things a bit!

The dress is perfect at this length. You have good judgment. There are bloggers who would have had their asses hanging out after cutting it sky-high. That's the kind of alteration I can't stand!

Orchid Grey said...

I think shortening it was the right way to go, you'll probably wear it more. and you should because you look stunning! What a great find, and such a beautiful pairing with the red tights!

Jenni said...

the dress looks so fantastic. I'm glad you cut it short, it was pretty long, but it is so much more versitle this way. Not to mention adorable.

Love it shortened. I've done that to so many vintage dresses. No sense having a full length dress in your closet that you'll never wear, right? Dresses are meant to be worn!

The dress was gorgeous before but it's even more lovely now!

Wow, the shoulders are so cool, and I love the amazing colour of your tights!

you did right by taking some pictures of it long to remember it by, but now it is perfect!!!

now if only i would actually get to work at hemming the 10+ vintage dresses i have hanging around...

oh wow, the dress looks so much better like this, well done!
love to see it with the red tights.

I love the dress on you so much, it was the perfect alteration too!

Even though it was beautiful long it is equally beautiful short.
And the white isn't too wedding, especially with the red tights. :)

Wow I love the unexpected heels with this outfit, the metallic plays well off the white and red

I love it shorter, too! It's the perfect length. You're so lovely in these photos, as well!

And funny coincidence, I had a white lace dress with blue ribbons when I was little, and I wore it for my birthday for several years as well! That made me smile, reading about your birthday dress.

Found an old picture of myself in a rufflely white dress and red tights at age 6. The red tights always steal the show.

so BEAUTIFUL in white!! That dress was extremely beautiful long, but it was too wedding dress like. You made it the perfect summer dress <3. I snapped my photos just in time today before the rain hit. I can tell that the ground was extremely wet in the photos; It must be rainy in washington too!

Much love,

Lyndsey

The dress looks great. I loved it when it was floor length, but this is obviously more wearable. And the whole nostalgia thing is definitely good reason for hemming it.

this weekend my sister and i dug around in her closet and i tried on one of my mom's old formal dresses -- i'm thinking about hemming it like you did here! i'm all for displaying dresses as art, but clothes are meant to be worn, too, not just stored or displayed!

amy said...

It's pure gorgeosity! You shortened it to (what I currently think is) the perfect length for dresses and skirts-- the top of the knee. Just lovely, doll!

Beautiful! That dress could not be more perfect. It's so sweet, and reaches new levels of awesomeness with those tights! I had a beloved dress like that when I was little... a blush pink pinafore with a lace collar (very Victorian). I wore it for every occasion for years, too, until my mother said, "Enough! It's getting too short!" It's still hanging in my closet. :)

This does look really amazing. When taking on a sewing project such as this, do you hem from the bottom or take off from the top of the skirt part and the reattach?
