I've had this dress for ages and it is one of my favorite thrift store finds. I like to pin it into a mini, but I'm not committing to actually chopping the extra inches off because perhaps one day I'll want a more elegant length, you know? For as long as I have owned this dress and the minor customizations I put it through, I've only worn it a handful of times because I always felt that velvet might be too much for day wear. Recently though, I decided I liked it too much to allow it to gather dust in the dark regions of my closet. This is a reoccurring theme for me, but pieces you really like should be worn to death, not saved for some mythic occasion (that for me rarely occurs). If I didn't wear my dresses to run errands and walk the dog, I would never wear dresses!

Totally agree. It's fun to get dressed up to go to ... the grocery store. I say, why not! Not to mention that dresses are soooo comfy!

Excellent point. The same goes for nice jewelery and china... why keep it for a special occassion that may never come? The president will not come to your house (most likely) so putting delivery pizza on your nice plates is perfectly acceptable. I love this dress and how you styled it.

i have bought soooo many velvet dresses from thrift stores, they are so easy to just throw on with anything and really comfortable. good idea to pin it too - i think this one would look pretty classy long.

So elegant--- that dress makes a great mini and that headband makes you look like some type of beautiful, ancient woodland creature! Very romantic look and certainly appropriate for any occasion, agreed there is no need to wait for the perfect one!

The dress looks equally great for day! Despite it being made from velvet, I think the casual cut tones it down a little.
