Neo Classical

the clothes horse, fashion, style, daily outfit, paige denim, black flares, 70s style, mini market, fly print shirt, white button up, classic, modern, androgynous
While I clearly don't wear pants often, I'm always willing to change it up if the right pair comes along. This Paige denim Lou Lou flares from Revolve is not only putting me in pants, but also in flares which I haven't wore since...junior high? Lately, I have been enjoying 70s style so these jeans fit my mood. The flare is just the right amount without being overkill and the black color makes them incredibly wearable. Even with heels on I had to hem them shorter (the joys of being below average height), but a long stream-lined leg does make me look taller.
I'm rather terrible at collecting basic wardrobe staples, so this fly print shirt from Mini Market (already sold out!) is the only white button-up I currently own. Most white button ups make me feel like a waitress, which is probably why I don't own any. Would it be too unprofessional to wear this shirt with a suit on occasions that call for "business wear?" The print of little flies seems incredibly subtle. Hopefully, I can just avoid 'business wear' situations for awhile and I don't have a suit anyway making the entire query moot. So, fly print clothes: a new classic, no?

Meh, I would. I like to think that even in situations like that, showing your individuality is interesting and also impressive. I probably dress entirely inappropriately for all of our posh oxford dinners and tutes, but I don't think it's done anything negative to me yet, if anything, it's just shown that I like to show my personality. :) xxxx

you look so different (but great!) in pants. very 70's. and the fly on the shirt is so brilliant!

Hi! I love the flies on your shirt - so cute!

I thought you might like to know (as a fellow sale-hunter and thrift shopper) that Ebay is having this 60% off sale on French Connection items - you should check it out, there are some great deals!

Cute! I like that you tucked the shirt in, it seems more you that way, if that makes any sense. i guess since you usually look put together, a sloppy shirt pulled out and rumpled at the hem wouldn't suit you. I like the fly print shirt, I myself would prefer bees or lightning bugs, maybe butterflies.

those pants look great on you, I don't know if I could put some Flares on and feel fashionable now, but you def have changed my mind a bit!

that shirt is so cute and fun! I definitely did a double take when I saw that they were flys! ^.^

I would 100% wear that adorable fly shirt for a "bussiness wear" occasion! Then again my definition of bussiness wear might be a little "creative"....
I love love love this outfit! I'm more of pants person myself. I like the idea of wearing dresses and I own quite a few, but 98% of the time I go for pants.

The shirt is adorable. The fly print is so cute.

Wow, flare jeans! I think it was also around junior high or late elementary school when I last rocked them (I don't think I even rocked them then). I love the idea of black flared jeans though, much more modern and wearable. And you can't have enough of white button-up shirts! They're so classic, I must have about three in my closet, haha.

Love the basic chic look, it's a nice mix-up of your usual style!

So cute! Totally gives the 70's vibe a modern spin.

I definitely vote that fly-shirt meets 'professional' and 'work wear' requirements! I can just see it with a red skirt or something equally colorful, and one of your sweet little jackets. Cute clothes!

goldenmeans said...

Oh, that shirt is so awesome, and you pull off the dark jeans and crisp button-up look REALLY well Rebecca! Love.

As for the shirt being professional or not, I wouldn't wear it for future law school endeavors in the courtroom, but in any business casual situations it'll work and I'm sure the edginess will help you stand out a bit :)

you look super chic!

I completely feel your pain on having to hem everything! (I'm just 5'4 and it's a harsh reality that so many pants are cut for the tallies.)
Your fly print shirt must get a ton of double-takes, because from a distance they look like little dots. I love office attire with a twist.

Love the pants. Love the whirt. They dont look waitressy at all. For me, waitress-loo means all black, not white and black. White and black looks corporal, office-work attire... The random flies saves you on this occasion as well.

The pants really suit you. Love the details on your shirt too, ery sweet!

This outfit looks great on you :)

Lovely photos too, a new location?

I don't think it'd be inappropriate for business wear at all. Just enough quirkiness to stand out without being overt.

That shirt is absolutely delightful!! and your hair color is so poppy in all the photos for market publique, its a great color on you.

I love your button-up, the subtleness of the print puts a refreshing spin on the classic white oxford (which always makes me feel like a waitress too). I think it would be great worn in a more business casual setting too, something unexpected. -Julie

Don't feel bad, I'm really bad at collecting wardrobe staples as well, I don't own any black pants, My only white shirt is a practically see through vneck tee and My ONLY blazer came from hot topic.

Although I do have enough LBD's to last me the rest of my life. OH well!

I think the fly print is the perfect way to make that shirt look not too stuffy.

You look seriously petite in these trousers! (in a figure way, not height) I never really feel comfortable in trousers, I'm sure my thighs look like sausages in all styles! The fly shirt is also fantastic, you're very good at finding quirky prints :o)

athousandhearts said...

I must say, you pull off the trousers & button-down combo. I look like a grandma wearing this. The fly print is definitely a new classic. You look great as always :)

athousandhearts said...

oh and you should deff. wear pants more often :)

Totally appropriate for business wear. Skirt suits and traditional professional wear is so out in corporate America. Well for me anyway - I work in an industry that promotes creativity. Not sure is law has followed suit?

I think pants being too long is a problem for most of us. I'm about average height, and pants are still several inches too long for me. I have one pair that's too long even in 5" heels.

I really need to learn how to hem pants..

Winnie said...

My gosh, those jeans/trousers are so flattering on you! I have to hem almost all my jeans too.
