Black Hole

My wardrobe seems to resemble a black hole recently, but temperatures suddenly returning to what they were in December and snow flurries in my area seems like reason enough to dress in mourning. Where is the spring, I ask you? With this new chill in the air I'm striving to stay warm while resisting all those heavy winter coats I'd like to permanently retire. Hats do lock one's body heat in and I am lucky enough to have recently received the Ella hat from Hats in the Belfry. It's wider and more dramatic than the hats I usually wear, but I rather like it. It has such an interesting vibe to it.
Off of hats and on to law schools: I'm not going to state the name of my potential choices online because frankly, I am not the sort of advertisement universities are looking for! One summer I worked in the Admissions office of my undergraduate university; this taught me that with the onset of Google alerts, your university can and will receive an e-mail every time they are mentioned online. While I doubt any mentions here would jeopardize my position at a school, there is a lot to be said for being allowed to live and study in anonymity. I will say: I am looking in the South, because I am quite tired of long winters and snow. Pennsylvania was quite enough for college and I escaped from there for two semesters in warmer climates. I have no ties (since I have been moving every few years since birth) to a particular location, no "home to call my own" as it is, and I've only been in Washington State for less than a year now, so really anywhere in the country is an option...I rather like being this rootless wanderer that gets kicked around from place-to-place. I suspect my future law school will end up being in a state I've never lived before.

Cool hat and heels! I have been trying to find a wide brimmed hat for a while now and this has spurred me on to continue the hunt! Great outfit as always and good luck with your decision!

I think that this is just my mind rapidly romanticizing here, but with your wonderfully large hat and talk of being a rootless wanderer makes you sound like a mysterious dame from old-time movies. All you're missing is a despondent detective and a lost inheritance.

Haha, I totally get what you mean by "first love!" It's so lame, I used to really into Yu-Gi-Oh when I was younger, and Bakura was pretty hot. Oh dear.

I do like that hat (though I own many many hats I never ever wear...yet I keep buying them!). Yeah for you moving somewhere warmer!! I didn't know that about the universities being notified when mentioned online...It's kind of creepy.

I am still totally in love with your tights. And those shoes are great!

I love the color of your dress with the black. and that hat is marvelous! I think it's really neat that you're a wonderer! Have you ever been to portland, or? I think you would love it there ^.^

Love the hat! And schools in the south are great, namely Florida :) I may be a little bias but i do know several people currently in law school here in the south. Good luck!

Funny that you mention the google alert thing, because only earlier this week I had mentioned a theatre I worked for in one of my posts. What do you know, the next morning I woke up to a rather sudden influx of visitor from the said theatre to my blog. At that time I just freaked out but now that you say so it does make sense.

About the hat I do agree with "Toast with Charmalade" you do look like out of an old movie....

That hat is gorgeous on you! Hoorah for the south. I live in Asheville, NC and love it here.

Oh my, that hat! (And the rest of your outfit, for that matter!) As someone with a head too large and irregularly shaped to wear 99% of the hats out there (nobody ever seems to notice, but still!), I've long been an admirer of gorgeous hats.I suppose it's the whole longing for what you can't have bit. They really can make an outfit all on their own. Next time I pass a gorgeous hat at a vintage shop, I'll have this image of you in my head as I sigh wistfully and walk on by. :P

I've been looking for a hat like that, a little more floppier, though, so I'll have to go check out their site.

Also, didn't know that about schools. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever want to say anything about my college.

you look gorgeous as always, i'd give anything to raid your closet! and i didn't know that about schools, but it's a good thing to know. good luck with your search!

The hat is fantastic.

Best of luck with the law school applications, I know you've been accepted to a few already and that's great! I long for warmer weather too. Anonymity wise, my blog does not get even close to the traffic that you get...but only one person knows I have a blog (and I told her about it) but most of my friends at uni don't know I've got one!

I envy your ability to pick up and relocate anywhere you feel like. Most of my life has been spend in the same city. How amazing to be unattached to a specific place!

And you sound just like my friend when it comes to schools (only she's just going into undergrad). I live in PA and I know the winters aren't always the greatest =( But my friend looked in the south too for her school! I attempted this, but have only made it a few states down!
Good luck with your law school!

yes, it's not been your usual style lately. More black, more streamlined and chic, I still like what you've been wearing. :-)

Hey beautiful girl,
Good luck with law school applications! I completely understand about wanting to move somewhere warm. I grew up in Bangladesh (lovely and hot!) but have been living in London for the past 4 years, and the main reason I want to leave is because it's just so COLD here! I want warmth and sunshine forevermore!

Love the hat and the shoes!

I'm also struggling with the "between seasons" wardrobe. The problem is the weather here is so up-and-down that one day will be in the 70s, and the next in the 30s. It'll be like that for the next few weeks until it finally settles on warming up. It just makes it hard to pack away the heavy layers and pull out the lighter spring clothes like I want to.

*GASP* Those heels are amazing! They're like an updated, more modern version of the clogs we've been seeing around lately.

It's extremely admirable and commendable of you to move to a strange place and start anew. I've lived in California all my life and would just love to move out of state/country (perhaps when I have the financial means to!). Congrats on your letter of acceptance!! That's so great, I hope you get several more to keep your options open.

Oh, I'm in love with that hat!! I'd probably wear it all the time, whether it matched my outfit or not! xoxo

The prospect of living and studying in a strange place is rather exciting, I think. I'm happy for you Rebecca, I hope you find the perfect school to finish Law! (:

And that hat is full of wide-brimmed goodness. I can't get over it! I really want to try out hats more especially for the summer (hello boaters!) but I think I am too timid for such a statement piece. But we'll see.
