You Must Be A Girl With Clothes Like That

I'm not a fan of matching head-to-toe; you know shoes that match the bag and all that. It just feels too fussy to me. So, in this outfit when I put together the black jacket with the matching shoes and leggings, I knew the bag couldn't be black. And the bag I chose? A recent discovery from Pacsun, which is a store I never envisioned myself shopping at. Well, never say never...
Lately, a number of the accessories from Pacsun have caught my eye. Studded belts, stackable rings, abstract print dresses, even on-trend neon beaded necklaces have been appearing in that shop. You'll still find that California, surfer kid cool with frayed denim and teeny bikinis, but there might also be some pieces there that appeal to a more eclectic crowd. This bag appealed to me with the stud details and chain shoulder strap. In person, it is so soft, caramel-y in color, and lightweight; perfect for day-to-day toting around since it is roomy enough to hold my camera.
Off the subject of bags...Lately I'm really longing for 60s looks: prairie revival, big hair, extreme winged eyeliner, I want it all. Unfortunately, I'm quite clueless on how to style my hair. So, I suppose acheiving this look will be a work in progress. A few years ago was I extremely into the 40s and 50s fashion-wise, so I find it interesting to see how our interests and visions shift with time. Style always should be a work in progress. It seems to me maintaining a certain "look" is stagnation and I'd much rather experiment a little...even if that means we occasionally get something wrong. Though, defining wrong in fashion is next to impossible...

Outfit details:
H&M jacket
vintage dress
Jeffrey Campbell shoes
Modcloth necklace
The Quotation airplane ring
Joanna Laura Constantine filigree ring via Gilt
Knock Out matte nail polish

I think it is interesting how we latch on to specific era's during different times in life. I was very into the 1970's when I was in high school myself. In my first year of college it was the 60's. I seem to be working backwards while you work forwards.

I love the Sargent Pepper look of your jacket! The bag is great, definitely not something I would expect to see at Pacsun. However, I found one of my favorite bags there as well! I soft brown messenger bag that's served me well over the years. Cute look, as always.

No joke, I was a little intimidated by PacSun before, when I was trying to find a pair of black skinnies. Guess I should try everything before I knock it, right?

And yes, 60s! I long for the dramatic 60s eye makeup and nude lips, the poofy-billowy hair. I also find myself infatuated with 20s hair too... I actually talked about how maintaining a certain look is nice, but experimenting can be fun too!

That bag is cute! I have the same thing about PacSun, I feel strange shopping there, but I always find something cute that is my style. I like the picture of the bag in the leaves, it's like camouflage.

I agree about PacSun, all these stores that most people shopped at when they were in middle school are slowly, yet surely, making more modern and fashion-forward clothing! I love it! I also wrote a little about PacSun's clothing in one of my older posts.

I can see why you usually wouldn't shop at pacsun but I think you can find something you like at every store, you just have to really look.. like the way you would at a thrift store.
The color on the bag is my favorite.

I really like this look on you. I think you did a good job styling your hair for it too --- I can definitely see some of that mod influence. Love your jacket and that bag.

I haven't shopped in Pacsun for the same reasons you mentioned, but I might pop in and explore next time I'm in the area.

What a lovely bag, and your shoes are wonderful! Hmm I've never thought of Pacsun for a good place for accessories...interesting. I love the 60s, perhaps you could try a hair flip (something I've always wanted to do)? Your bangs are already quite 60s, so you could leave it at that.

I have too much to say but I will start:
I love that military band jacket and how it goes so well with that dress! I love your shoes and when I saw they were Jeffrey Campbell it made me love them even more if that is possible! Lovely bag.... It suits you so well even though studs are unexpected for you but wonderful! I really need the nail polish.
I really need a filigree ring and that airplane ring wonderful!
Phew. Wow I wrote a lot and I didn't even say it all.
I wonder if I met you...if I would just overwhelm you or if I could control it(:

Sweet bag! You've probably started a stampede to PacSun. :) I used to get all my sundresses and summer shorts there in high school, sometimes bags, too. I carried a grey bag from there for years until it literally fell apart. You've given me a nice dose of nostalgia! Oh, and your outfit is quite close to achieving the sixties look you're craving. Can't wait to see your next experiment!

i am consistently STUNNED at the versatility and creativity of your shoe collection. these cut-out booties are such an unexpected look for winter!

person style is consistently evolving - its amazing to go through old photos, sometimes laughing, sometimes cringing at previous sartorial choices. luckily blogs can document these changes in style.

I love 60s style. I'm a Beatles fangirl at heart, so it's an era that will never cease to be dear to me. I even tried graphic liner on my eyes once, but unfortunately it made me look like a frog.

Love the outfit- the peachy tone of that dress against the black is so pretty. And it looks lovely against your red hair too- I don't know if I've said this before, but you're a dead ringer for my mental image of Ginny Weasley (which is a good thing, I love redheads).

Oh, the 60's style! Lately I've fallen in love with it too, though I have same problem with you - don't know how to do anything with my hair.

And I really love Carey Mulligan's style in An Education - you actually look a bit like her.

Oh man, I do love the 1960s. Everything about being a pristine housewife is so appealing to me, especially the hair and makeup! For rad videos on how to do your hair like that, I'd look at Super Kawaii Mama's YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/user/superkawaiimama?gl=AU&hl=en-GB). Her blog (http://www.superkawaiimama.com/) is also great for inspiration on retro style!

Yes to the 60s! I want super long hair, with feathers in it. I want to wear long, flowing dresses in the woods. The 60s sounds very good to me right now. For some reason, I always picture the 60s in the summertime. Probably because of California...
