This lovely, little skirt looks like it could have been made from the storm clouds or grey water behind me. Modcloth named the skirt after the most adorable Project Runway contestant ever: Leanne. Her final collection was in softer, warmer colors, but it did have a similar organic aesthetic. While my particular skirt decidedly needs ironing (I'm lazy), it is definitely a good piece to add to the arsenal. Skirts in basic colors can always be worn with everything from band tees to button-downs, so one with nice details or an overall unique shape and pretty drape can definitely add a little punch to the basics.

Beautiful pictures!!!
I like your style, the skirt is lovely, the shirt is awesome! I'm a shirt kind of girl that's why :)
What a pretty skirt! I was a fan of Leanne's collections, so I love this one!
I love the second pic's outfit. So casually chic!
love the skirt! <3
what a great philosophy, sometimes i abide by it as well. for example, today we are experiencing the worst snow storm in about 6 years, and i decided to go shovel snow in a sweatshirt, leggings and wellies.
but you look adorable, as usual
it looks so nice.
i like your pullover, coulour of nails and the nature:)
i'm such a baby about the cold! i layer and layer, haha! i guess that's a cali girl for ya.... love the look... simple, but cute!

i love your shoes!!!
Super cute. I love the way you look in the second to last pic! There's something about your smile. The shoes are awesome too. I like your "only outside for a little while" philosophy. I'm afraid I sometimes follow it as well. ;-)
Though I must admit I wore open toed shoes WITH tights the other day and I couldn't help thinking all day: "Do people think I'm crazy for wearing open toed shoes in the middle of winter?" That said it IS 10 degrees outside (Celsius!)
http://purplestinkindogtoy.blogspot.com/
your shoes are wonderful!!!
also, a few days ago i didnt wear a coat because i figured warm building to warm car.. but usually im a baby.
beautiful pictures! awesome outfit :)
That skirt is perfectly Leanne! You look great in it,darling!
Yeah and seriously, what up with crazy people and no coats, my boyfriend doesn't like to wear coats if he can avoid it, he just puts on a bazillion layers of clothing that I end up having to launder. I shall never understand.
Love this outfit....seems a little different than what you usually wear, but I love the casual feel to it!
Lovely outfit as usual, the shoes and skirt are great... and, did you know that Leanne has a blog too? It's http://petalsandwaves.blogspot.com/
Love yr blog!
Cheers,
Smog
You look adorable. I love the shoes and the skirt is very nice, especially with the draping and high waist. I don't know if I could adopt the no coat, no tights philosophy. I think I a) like wearing them too much and b) am cold even in the house if its under 70 degrees:)
If you hadn't described your friend, I was going to ask if it was Suri Cruise. That poor child hardly ever has a coat on!
your outfit is amazing and i love that you take your pictures outside, the landscapes are so beautiful
i want to live where you live, its so beautiful
What a beautiful setting! And I love this skirt and the way it folds. It's my mission this year to find interesting skirts as all I seem to buy is dresses!
Seriously too cold in the UK for bare legs, but then I am a bit of a wuss..
I'm in PA and your friend sounds a bit crazy especially since the entire state is currently living under 2 feet+ of snow right now.
Loving that Jeffrey Campbell shoes! I love the heel that isn't too high.
I really love the outfit !
And that ring.... THAT RING !
Everything in this post is absolutely beautiful! The way that skirt flows is gorgeous and is totally reminiscent of Leanne's aesthetic for her last collection; such an aptly named skirt. Although I do like your friends' philosophy on not wearing coats and such if we're only going to be outside for a few minutes, I could never go through with it. I overdress during the winter because I get cold much too easily so I always have to be bundled up with layers! I applaud your notion to go with peep toes and bare legs today.
Also, that fourth landscape photo is heavenly. Such a lovely shot.
This skirt fits your style so well! I like how it's a bit dressy, yet you paired it with a graphic tee. Though I have to say-- you look great, but craaazy, bare legs?? I shiver for you. :O
http://charmalade.blogspot.com
I love that your landscapes look so secluded. It is like your own little world.
The amount of love I have for your blog is indecent. Everything is so perfect! The outfit, the ring, the setting/scenery, photography . . . *sigh*
the shoes are gorgeous

This color combo is fabulous and I think i'm going to have to copy your nails!!!
That skirt is so beautiful! I love the draping.
It must be a mid-Atlantic thing...I see insane people walking around in shorts and flip-flops in winter all the time at the U of DE! (For the record, I've never been one of them...I get cold way too easily!)
Also, I usually don't care for bubble skirts, but that one looks very cute on you.
And I love the quote you used for the title.
haha, i have a similar coat theory, except i live in one of the most termperate climates in the country...
only i hope this theory pans out while in new york because i don't have that many coats!!!!
see you soon! ;)
I think it IS a PA thing. I grew up in Pittsburgh and went to school with a guy who was determined to wear shorts every day for a year (even in the snow). And my freshman year at Penn State, I knew a guy who would wear a white undershirt and green sweat pants every day. No jacket, no different colored shirt or sweats. White undershirt and green sweats every day.
Gosh, my state is so bizarre.
did you go to temple? my good friend hunter goes there and loves philly!
Oo, like how you dressed down the skirt with a t-shirt and then balanced it all out with super cool shoes.
This all looks so great on you!! I love siloutte of the skirt. The teal cardi is a great pop to all the other neutrals.
love that skirt - the drape on it is so nice.
Oh my...I would wear 2 or more coats sometimes and it's not even half cold here than PA!!
I'm watching that season of Project Runway only now...Italy is a bit slow airing certain shows!
I love this skirt, color, design and all. Your blog is great. I love the outdoor pictures.
thequeenofwanderlust.blogspot.com
love the skirt! and the pop of color the sweater gives the outfit.
Haha I don't care if I'm cold for five seconds, if it's cold I have to bring a coat! Lovely outfit, those shoes are wonderful and I love the color of your cardigan! That skirt looks like fun too!
oh dear.
i must say i'm so in love with this outfit.
it's perfect!
the skirt is gorgeous<3
your shoes. gorgeous.

you have great movement in that skirt. it perfectly drapes and hits at a great length.

Your photos are always so lovely, but every now and then (well, okay, pretty much every post) there is one shot that just hypnotizes me! That first one, the background, the way you're standing, hair, colors! Ahhh! So beautiful.
I really love this outfit. The shoes and skirt are great!
www.sonyasark.blogspot.com
aw, that background makes me miss the Seattle area something terrible :)
Really digging the fact that the title of this post is an LOTR quote...and I only know that because I'm a super nerd. The landscape shot as out of this world, as well.
the skirt is exactly the kind of thing Leanne would design, it's superb. your photos are amazing as always. I wish I had a view as beautiful as yours. I love living in the city, but would kill for a getaway to where you live.
xoxo,
miha
That skirt is positively divine. I like this relaxed look, and I think it's a bit rocker chic.
cute!
my way around bare legs without being ridiculously cold is to wear white tights with skin-coloured pantyhose over the top... they look just like bare legs, but you have the benefit of another layer =)
could be a problem with open-toed shoes though... all those seams..
~lydia
I know what you mean - I'm fed up of winter clothes (and winter) and just want spring and warmth. Only when it's actually snowing do I reluctantly pull on my coat and tights... xxxx
Awesome picutres this is such a cute outfit goregous skirt
chicinwonderland.blogspot.com
The grey skirt is great, but it's the cardigan that makes this outfit. I love the grey in the skirt mixed with the turquoise color of the cardigan! And I'm itching to wear sandals again, but alas- I'm in Cleveland and we have about a foot and a half of snow outside =/
Leanne was my favorite of that season, I would def. love to see more of her work.
I never thought about your friends theories before, but I suppose it is true....
I love your shirt, I've been looking for a screen printed tee but haven't had any luck!
http://thedollhouse0101.blogspot.com/
The killer shoes make the outfit completely you. I love how you mixed the romantic skirt with a tee and the lace-up shoes! And the cardigan adds great color.
amazing skirt! my friend looks just like Leeanne. For facebook doppelganger week she put a photo up and her mother asked her when she got new glasses haha.
These are beautiful images, so clear and crisp. Your hair looks stunning on the backdrop of the lake and forest.

awwww this makes me miss summer! that outfit is perfect.
the skirt is gorgeous! and i really love the color of your cardigan <33
I totally understand!! Sometimes I wear seemingly inappropriate clothing for the weather, but it's just because I'm really not outside for more than a minute.
you look lovely, and very brave, i'm still a bundle up girl, for 60 degrees is cold.. :)
shoes!!!
I am always tempted to ditch the coat or opt for some sheer tights instead of leggings, but I am a big wuss. I start calculating that it will take 15 minutes to wait for the bus [each way] and then 10 to walk to class and decide that 25 minutes is enough for leggings... and occasionally, to my embarrassment, uggs.
your hair looks PERFECT today!
That skirt IS so Leanne! And I am the opposite, wearing too many layers as I don't want to be cold. Also my house is too warm for other people too.
Cute! I love this skirt and the cardi looks so pretty with your hair colour :)
Pretty pretty -- I love the open toed shoes, you're rocking them. And hye, it's nearly March. Or something :).
I love the pictures you have here! Especially the one with the reflection of the trees on the water...gorgeous. :) And your outfit is lovely as well - not happy you're coatless, you tiny thing - but I agree on basic skirts and whatnot. Timeless pieces... and my mom's name is Leanna, haha, which is a name you don't hear too often...
I love your lace up shoes, and as always, your nature/fashion photography. For some reason my legs never get cold, I swear I could go bare legged in Greenland and be fine with it.
cold weather be damned, your outfit is fabulous! the skirt is indeed the perfect stormy sky item- i love the sideways movement of the pleats. and those shoes are so fun! by the way- are you headed to nyc this weekend? i hope to see you around! ~joelle
Wow,GORGEOUS backdrop.
Beautiful outfits and wonderful locations. I love your creative photographs, their so clean and polished! :D
ah! i love modcloth! i got perhaps a little overly excited about a new dress i just got from them (http://thegaminechronicles.blogspot.com/2010/02/welcome-to-family.html)! the skirt is adorable :]
xo
The whole look is fantastic. I wish it was warm enough here to get away with wearing a skirt and shoes like that! Fabulous as usual. (:

That skirt is super amazing. There's an award waiting for you on my blog! See you in a few short days... Annie.
Those are great shoes!
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love those shoes! And I completely agree...Leanne was absolutely adorable!
I love how you downplayed such a strong skirt with a tee...it looks fabulous!
Oh, one of my favorite Lord of the Rings quotes. It makes me sad.
I love ModCloth. They are so cute with their product names! I also love the ring you are wearing. So cool! I love statement rings even though I always end up taking them off mid-day because I type all day long!
aaahhh!!! love that skirt!!!! lovely lovely!:D
I love your shoes!
also, I completely feel the same about skirts. I love a pretty, solid colour to make my tees look less casual.
I like this particular piece, because like the dynamic nature of the landscapes where you photograph, there is movement in the shape and cut of the skirt, even while you are standing still.
The cut and angle of it, though, are a nice edgy, urban juxtaposition against the very pastoral existence of the elements in the background.
It's an interaction of nature and man while at the same time sort of mirroring similarities.
I don't think your friends are wise if they are doing that same thing now, considering PA has gotten pounded with at least two feet of snow in the last few days.
When there's a drop in temps and an inch of precipitation on the ground, I think nonsensical shoes (like flip flops in winter) are alright indoors but not when you are outside, no matter how little time you spend outside. If it's snowing and 25F, I'm not going to venture outside without a coat and sweater and snow boots. Granted, I will have cute accessories and shoes in my tote bag to change into the minute I get to the office, but still. Function over form first.
love the third photo! very cute.
I just adore that skirt! Leanne was my favorite! Her final collection was just so cohesive, soft and lovely.
You are so lucky not to have to wear layers upon layers and boots with everything. I do not have the whole from a warm car to a warm someplace else possibility, and waiting for the bus takes quite some time.
Though, I'm pretty sure that even though you can go tightsless you are still hoping for an early spring with the rest of us.
yes, that skirt is so 'leanne'..with it's petal construction like her final collection...
i wear flip-flops all year round but only cuz we live in a tropical country! i don't think i can survive the cold without boots and a jacket (a thick one at that)..i even almost shivered to death at 10 deg celcius in HK...LOL.
♥ vanilla ice cream ♥
it is a little crazy but that's kind of my theory too... it can be such a pain to have to carry all your coats and winter gear when you're tromping around indoors too
I go to school in Pittsburgh PA, and I actually know a few people who would fit perfectly into your theory. I don't understand how they can trudge through slush with their toes exposed and their arms bare, but they manage to do it all winter.
Lovely skirt!
you look so cute! and are so much braver than I. Snow past my ankles keeps me in knee high boots...ready for peep toes any day now!
wow! i love your shoes + such a beautiful site
love ur drappe skirt and print tee, you always have cool stuff, I need ur tips how to get lot of sponsor ?
xxx
Haha wow you're brave not wearing any tights - I even hate leaving the house with it being so cold outside.
That skirt and your shoes are so pretty! And adored Leanne's collection.
your ring is amazing!
and so are your shoes!! lovely outfit as usual
leen
Nice outfit, love that skirt and t-shirt! That ring you're wearing is absoluty gorgeous!
And the scenery for the photos, wow what an amazing place!
Splendid scenery! i love your outfit too, the skirt has a nice drape.
Talking about people who wear flip flops in winter, i saw them around campus in NE, wearing flip flop though it was snowing, then they went inside a building and complain about being cold..
im the same if im going from house to car then office building then why wear a coat! saying that today it is snowing and today i am wearing a coat LOL! loving your outfit x
I am so ready for open-toed shoes! However my city is still a big block of ice, so I'd be falling all over the place.
I love the entire outfit. The grey is that perfect neutral that works with everything and I obsess over that ring every time I see it.
Ah, hello Lanvin inspired skirt. I love how it folds to the side. Great find.
I love this outfit - and I was just looking at those shoes online. I think I may need to get them now. :)
flnw.blogspot.com
Beautiful combination! Those shoes are so unique, and I love the pop of color that you get from the cardi!
I live in PA and maybe it is something about this place that gives us that philosophy. I haven't taken a winter jacket to school since i started high school because i walk to then end of my drive way to my brothers car and into the school. although i do bring a sweatshirt in the winter, but that's just for winter track where i'm outside running for an hour.
also, i've seen kids in the past week where boys were wearing shorts and girls were wearing skirts with nothing under them. it really may be something about the people in PA.
aw. another beautiful post :) the skirt looks cute and I really like the lake scenery ;) anyway Jeffrey Campbell is my fav brand, too bad they don't sell any here :( jealous seeing you wearing that pair of Campbell's.
Amazing look once again!!
I love how unique that sideways drape on the skirt looks, and it does add a lot of interest to an outfit!
Your outfits are all great. I am totally inspired by you. I hope you dont mind. But i have a silly question...is the weather where you live so good? I am hearing about bad weather all around the world and it makes me wonder... And i am so jealous about the place you leave. You are surrounded by nature!!!
I can definitely understand this philosophy. When you're hopping from building to building, car to car, I'd rather be chilly for a few moments than either miserably warm or lugging a bunch of layers around after I reach my destination.
Love your skirt and tee!
cool ring, that environment looks so picturesque!
My school is outdoors (which sucks beyond belief, obviously the architecht didn't catch on that it is ALWAYS RAINING HERE) so coats are generally necissary. However maybe I'm just going numb, but it seems to be getting warmer and a cardigan seems to suffice.
I love your skirt, Leanne was my all time favorite PR contestant ever. I haven't watched the new season yet, is it any good?
-indigo
I love this look! Those colors look lovely together. That skirt is very Leanne-ish. My boyfriend was absolutely in love with her. I liked her designs a lot. I wonder what she's up to these days...
Modcloth did a lovely job with this skirt, and I love that it's named for Leanne. She's my favorite Project Runway designer, ever (but who doesn't love her?). And of course, I love how you've styled this. Those shoes are badass.
I love how you paired the skirt with the graphic tee. Gorgeous!
the skirt is lovely!! and i love the way you paired with a light blue cardi!!
adorable! such a great color blue :)
Haha, that's my philosophy too. People always ask me if I'm cold and I'm like, "No, I'm inside. It's warm in here."
I adored Leanne. She was my all time favorite PR contestant (though I'm really loving Anna Lynett from this season. She was a printmaking major!)
Leanne's great! I also liked Kenley... I thought Season 5 was the best-dressed season of contestants. I love the teal with the dark gray.
the renegade bean
such a cute setting and I love these shoes. The whole thing has a kind of casual purpose to it...very nice.
I love this outfit! My favorite parts are the cool tshirt, the great pair of Jeffrey Campbells, and most of all, that ring!
Love your style-
Robyn
