Some of my favorite periods in art were also the most brief, like Art Deco. The more modern the art the shortest its height of popularity, no? Art Deco's popularity peaked in the "Roaring Twenties" and I think these postcards from that era reflect the break with tradition and the redefinition of modern womanhood. Exotic and fantastical, these also feed my love of escapism art and the prominent use of teal and red is an incredibly appealing palette.

"The playful flapper here we see,
The fairest of the fair.
She's not what Grandma used to be, --
You might say, au contraire.
Her girlish ways may make a stir,
Her manners cause a scene,
But there is no more harm in her
Than in a submarine." -Dorothy Parker

I love art deco too! These are so beautiful.
Beautiful examples!
I love art deco and art nouveau! Wish those times would come back!
oh my favourite style is art deco. for me these decades were the most special in art history.
thank you for sharing these amazing little things. :)
I love Art Deco. Since you're going to New York for the Chictopia conference, you should check out Radio City Music Hall - it's a great example of Art Deco in architecture and design.
Great images. LOVE art deco. sidenote: re: the idea Deco peaked in the 20s, don't forget the 30s and even early 40s when thinking deco. as imelda notes, the 20s show the waning of art nouveau and waxing of deco. some would argue high deco happened in the 30s (esp. when it comes to fashion history) xoxo.
I love me some art deco too.
If you are in need of a 'deco fix,' I recommend renting yourself Mrs. Pettigrew Lives For A Day.
Amy Adams' abode is ever-so-stylishly swimming in it!

Can I just live in one of those scenes? haha
Those post cards are breath taking and I'm feeling the need to pair pea green with pink!
The second picture is gorgeous. I love Art Deco aswell, especially the architecture.
xx
I love Art History! and I'm about the same, I feel like my favorite art periods were the "in-betweeners," the movements that didn't get as much of the spotlight. But I do like Art Nouveau a lot, for all its sinewy swirls and exotic lettering.
I love these pictures, they're such an inspiration! My favorites must be the second and fifth ones (you?).
and flappers = vexing love <3

so cool. Reminds me a little of the Vienna Secession. That might just be me not remembering my History of Graphic Design class very well.
those are so beautiful! i really don't think i've seen anything like them, though I've heard of art deco. I guess now I can place an art with its period!

wow, thanks for sharing! :)
this does completely remind me of the 20s flapper attire. which is so great cause it is very reminiscent of that time period and that mood. great stuff.
WOW. I just finished reading a book about flappers and I LOVE anything art deco and/or flapper. These are just so super!
I really like the colors in these prints!
i was never really into art deco before, but i'm keeping an eye out for it from now on :)
The last dress reminds me of a Vogue editorial a few years ago based on the creations of a French designer prominent in the 20's...I wish I could remember his name.
amazing!
ooooh! these are lovely!
you're right, these are beautiful! i love art deco - your blog background has quite an art deco look to it, no?
Stunningly beautiful images with more than just a hint of eroticism. Thanks for the inspiration today!
I loooove your art posts!
These are beautiful. I don't know much about art deco, but I do like art nouveau. It looks like some of the works are similar. I like the surreal quality of both periods.
Which law schools are you looking at in SC? True, thrift store prices are really reasonable down here. I'm hoping to check out some of them in Charleston soon. There should be some decent stuff with all the boutiques around.
beautiful. love these images

They're beautiful photographs. I like the second photo in particular!
The second picture...I just died.
I adore Art Deco but I also absolutely love Art Nouveau. My parents have some wonderful Art Nouveau Pieces in their apartment. A velvet couch and a set of chairs and table. I already claimed them if they don't want them any more, hehe
Lovely post
Your hair looks lovely!
Thanks for sharing these beautiful images. i just want to jump right into them.

Hope it inspires you.
Sincerly,
Berlin.
These are so beautiful. If I could choose a decade to travel back in time to, it would definitely be the roaring 20s! I love the fashion and glamour of the era.
Those are such beautiful, inspiring pictures. I love the second one in particular. The colors are just gorgeous.
These are exquisite -- they remind me of the illustrations in a book of Indian fairy tales that I love, and they definitely have the Art Deco influence as well. I love how they evoke so many different styles all at once.
