Adventures Untold

Sometimes I come across these really lovely illustrators who seem to have captured all those loose imaginings and daydreams one experiences and put them in a concrete form with pen and paint. To me, Rachel Bone is one of those artists. Her paintings are whimsical and surreal, but there seems to be this underlying foundation of reality and little experiences...it starts as an ordinary bicycle ride and ends with adventures untold. It's those little flights of fancy your mind takes while you're doing a mundane activity.

my favourite is the traffic cone. my friends and I used to "cone" each other....stealing traffic cones and leaving them on peoples porches, cars, beds, anything. so much illegal fun.

Another lovely post, Rebecca! You never stop inspiring or influencing me...

My favorite picture the one of the tree branch. There is something so delicate about it, and it's also distinctly feminine. I want to put it on my wall.

OMG the last one reminds me of my best friend Jamie and me so much! we used to take cones and decorate our friends apartments and houses with them while they were gone, only to come home and find a mass of orange.

oh and thanks for post the blog for ruche! I went on thier site and got a dress that I had been looking for. It's awesome.

If I could have one talent, it'd be the ability to draw. I love these - the first one is so whimsical.

(My second wish-for talent would be a great singing voice) :)

These are amazing. I'm reminded of Codex Seraphinianus in a way--the almost encyclopedic/school textbook approach to dreamy & surreal ideas.

Thanks for sharing!

wow, seeing this post gives me more things to draw and scribble about...wouldn't it be amazing if we could really tie birds to our bikes? and sometimes, i can't help imagining small people on trees...:D

My my my. They're so quirky and cute but really profound in a way I can't really explain. My favorite is probably the one with little people in a tree. I also really like the typewriter one with the paper cranes coming to life. Simply magical. Thank you, thank you!

I've very taken with the way she makes use of an earthy palette to further add to her surreal and non sequitur drawings.

Beautiful artwork. They remind me of another artist, whose name I can't recall and it's driving me nuts that I can't remember! Anyways, similar style of fanciful illustrations -- dreamlike and lovely.

jauntie magpie, perhaps you're thinking of Henry Darger?

All beautiful. Reminds me very much of a Minneapolis-based artist named Amy Rice. You should check her out. Annie.
