This particular skirt is vintage on loan to me from Market Publique, along with a number of other quirky/cool items. I was tempted to wear the skirt with my grey knee socks out of irony, but I thought it might be overkill. I couldn't resist wearing my new prescription glasses with them (geek chic and all that), but unfortunately it was raining and cold so they kept fogging up!
The lake near me is covered in ice; which is quite pretty and releases this fantastic mist as the day goes on and the sun comes out (when the sun comes out). When you throw a rock on the ice, it skids across making this really unique noise. I highly suggest those of you in colder areas to go find a frozen body of water and throw some rocks on it; easy entertainment.

That necklace is awesome! I like this whole look, and the scenery. Very fantasy/fairytale-ish.

I really need some red tights like yours! fabulous!
i feel so guilty for not owning a plaid skirt!

I love your plaid skirt. You me I'm all about texture, prints. I'll do almost anything to have your shoes!!! hint hint.... xoxo
Beautiful skirt!! I like the way you choose to wear it, with these red tights! I love the cardigan too!
I remember I had a plaid skirt like this but in blue, when I was in a private school, between 7 and 9 years old. I didn't like so much at this time... But now, I would like to find a skirt like this one day!
Kisses from Paris ;)

"Seas frozen inside our souls" is such a lovely phrase. Is it part of a larger quote, by any chance?
wear that skirt is difficult (for me) they can look boring. but with a pair of thigths like yours and that shoes looks totally amazing.
Kisses!
Familiar...I wore a very similar combination yesterday - plaid, vintage skirt, red tights. Will post a photo sometime this week.
Especially love the glasses with this darling school-girl look. Wish I had a pair!

Plaid skirts can be tricky to wear. Many people won't get the irony and it could end in an overkill, as you noted. However, you nailed it down to perfection with those amazing red tights and simple top. And the scenery is so beautiful. You're lucky.
SO cute!
And those shoes are adorable. =]
That last picture is inredible. I love it so much!
very cute! do you know what brand the skirt is?
I love plaid, and the contrast with the red tights is great.
I agree, plaid is truly classy and I hope it never goes out of style. Beautiful outfit!! - Natalya of Wear Necessities
I don't usually like plaid unless it's in the shape I want but I adore that plaid skirt on you!! Perfect with a simple black cardigan!! Wish I had a frozen lake near me to play with! xoxoxoxo
the skirt looks amazing with those new tights :]
the pond in my garden froze over last weekend and I found that the most satisfying thing was smashing the ice with a stick. hehheheheh, maybe I'm just too much of a kid :p xxx
It's a really lovely skirt. ;] and scenery. ;]
Adorable glasses, breath taking scenery.
xo Caitlin
You're making me want a plaid skirt. I haven't worn one since high school (Catholic school girl here). Since then, my old high school has banned the skirt because of the improper way girls wore it (short; like a belt instead of a skirt).
That skirt is gorgeous!

The shoes... Damn, I LOVE THEM! :D
Great pictures.
Take care
Maria
Very cute skirt. Plaid reminds me of picnic blankets - but in a good way! Love your shoes too.
love it with the red tights!
I love the shape of this skirt.. this is a very quirky and fun outfit and I love the contrast of the outfit and your background.
I love your glasses! that skirt looks great, I am glad that you went with the tights instead of socks, because it looks so cute. These pictures remind me of my grandparents farm, there is a pond with a weeping willow that I really miss.
I dig the glasses! And the look overall is so classic, but with a twist. Probably those red tights.
totally cute outfit!
oohhh.. im gonna try that rock thing by a lake we have here.. hmm, that should be interesting! hahaha!
I love how you paired the red tights with the plaid! So cute!
adorable! i love plaid :o)
Love it!
oh you look great! i agree, plaid is definitely a classic. i think that the mark of a good piece is versatility - plaid can be conservative, racy, classic, avant-garde... it really is a miracle print.
Aw, you look adorable! :D I love your red tights so much! I can't seem to find a pair anywhere, but I'd like to get some to wear with my own plaid skirts!

I saw a gorgeous plaid skirt in a vintage shop today, but sadly didn't have enough money to get it. And right now I'm wearing plaid pyjamas!
Lovely, simple outfit x

That skirt is lovely. Love the shoes and the pretty necklace. :) - JoAnn, Sidewalk Chalk
Plaid is my favourite fabric since I was a little girl. When I was younger, I always wanted to be in a private school only for the plaid uniform... imagine! I could dress everyday in plaid! unfortunately, that never happened... so that's why I use plaid everytime I can!!
I love that skir and how you've combine it!!
I really recomend you to see The Boat that Rocked, is a gorgeous film!!
i used to kind of avoid red, but you pull it off so well that I'm inspired. great outfit as usual!
Lovely outfit! I especially like the necklace. (^.^)
As usual, I am coveting this outfit... I am definitely feelin' the red tights; just wore some in my recent post as well. :) Than you for sharing these pretty pictures. Is this is Washington? The dreary weather sure does remind me of Washington! Ha!

Ahhhh! I looove your shoes! And your pictures are always so stunning!
i love plaid and own it on just about everything - except skirts, because for 12 years i had to wear one to school everyday haha
but i love it on you and everyone else because you dont have those memories to go along with it haha :)
Yes, I think plaid will always be in style.
I really love your shoes. And you look good in glasses.

plaid really is a hard print to resist! i love that skirt!
Plaid is wonderful. I own too much plaid for my own good.
I especially love the tights and shoes. They are so pretty.
Wow! Lovely pictures. I wish I lived where you live, it is so pretty there. Keep it up!
the curved shape is delightful and i'm glad you paired it with red tights instead of the socks!
Great choice of the tights over the knee socks!
i really like the way you work somewhat odd colored tights into your wardrobe. orange is a color i would not know how to deal with but I love the way you paired it with that skirt. you also have me wondering if I need a pair of mustard tights, a color that I usually dont touch!
That skirt is so sweet!! And I love it teamed with the red tights!
Ha I might have to try that sometime. And hmm I have a quite a few items that would be considered Catholic uniform. My Catholic school friends think I'm nuts for liking said items
i'll give it a try, throwing rocks on a frozen lake. it's back to its normal state right now so i'll wait til it's frozen ^^
When I was modeling in Hamburg, the lake in the middle of town was frozen so thick that they would have races on it!
You take the best pictures. I am always so impressed with your creativity.
And thanks so much for visiting my new blog and leaving a comment. That made my day and made me smile!
aw you're adorable! love the vintage feel of your outfit! great photos too!!!!

Jules
Glasses are my favorite finishing touch to all of my outfits! It's really nice to see other bloggers rocking them as well.
I love plaid as well! Ever since I was little and watched british films with girls in their plaid skirts! I adore your shoes! So pretty!
the seychelles will always be my favourite item of yours...
Plaid has always been a favorite of mine. I love it with the red tights.
While I like the idea of gray, I think the red tights worked out really well--and I looooove that necklace. Modcloth does it again!
Loooove your tights!!!
What a perfect plaid. My irish friend was freaking out the other day about how J Crew was using HER family's official tartan. I was wondering what happened to your glasses! You look great in them you should wear them more often! :)

i love your outfit, especially the red tights. i got some red tights from urban but they ended up being a little more orange-ish than i would have liked. yours are great. :)

and the tights are so perfect for the season!
Fantastic outfit, you do geek-chic so perfectly - the glasses look really good on you. x
I love that horse/watch/necklace!
I have a necklace like your horse one, except mine is just a watch face on a gold chain. Very useful to tell the time!
these pictures are so beautiful, and of course, as usual, you look like you walked right out of a magazine. <3

xxxx sophie
Oh that outfit is so beautiful! I have had purple plaid fabric lying around forever and I think I really need to make a skirt out of it!
im afraid i might be in love with your shoes!!!!!! :-)
Great review - Happy New Year!
Haha, I'm so going to try throwing a rock on some ice. I've decided not to complain too much about winter this year and have some fun with it instead. So, if throwing rocks onto a frozen lake/pond is where the fun is then I'm all for it!
Red tights have always intimidated me. You wear them so well. I did muster up the courage to buy bordeaux-colored tights this past fall. I think it's the closet I'll come to red for a while ;)
The skirt is grand. Plaid is such a classic and warm pattern to wear. As for throwing stuff into frozen lakes -- agreed on its entertainment value. Did a late winter hike once and we came across a huge mostly-frozen lake. Beautiful peacefulness, then we got rowdy and tried to see who could make the biggest crack in the ice with rocks. Sigh -- will I ever grow up? Probably not.
