Exploding Like Spiders Across the Stars

At Christmas-time I can never get enough colorful lights filling up the long, dark nights. Honolulu is absolutely magical in December with all the bulbs strung up on palm trees, along balconies, and in store windows. Just like snow, a few strings of holiday lights turn the mundane magical. The banyan trees with their long, aerial roots mixed with streams of festive lights are particularly captivating.
A visit downtown for dinner gave me an excuse to wear my newest Modcloth dress. Sandra of Niotillfem looked too adorable in hers for me to resist snapping it up. The black band under the bust is actually elastic, so it makes for a really nice fit. I'm really not fond of the color pink, but the colors of this dress reminded me of a dish Neapolitan ice cream. Which does mean I feel more like a pastry than a person while wearing it...
And just like that--a flash in the dark--I'm back in Washington State. My time in Hawaii is at an end. When I was younger I thought I would never, ever be able to visit Hawaii; then we moved there. Now, I've been allowed the opportunity to go back (however briefly) and it was bliss. I miss it already, but I feel the chance to return will come again one day.

Oh my, this is my very, very favorite dress of yours! You look like a very very lovely cupcake (I've always thought pastries looked pretty?) I don't love Christmas lights but you make them look so pretty and mysterious.

Those pictures are so lovely and sparkly, and that Kerouac quotation is a great way to describe them! You look lovely in your "ice cream" dress :) There was a pair of Miu Mius a few years ago I used to call the "ice cream pumps" and I adored them -- somehow pink and white colorblocks are so appealing!

That dress is so cute! I like the ghostly shoe picture, as well. I definitely wouldn't mind a chance to visit Hawaii, although I suspect it would be wasted on me, since I'm not much of a beach person.

These pictures are great! I especially like the last one, where the tree's reflection almost looks like flames. Cute Neapolitan dress. :)

You're right about those banyan trees looking magical. It's like someone turned a willow into an entwife readying herself for marriage, stringing herself with crystals and stars.

Thank you for these shots.

Nate and I would love to move to Hawaii in a few years, and this only gives me more motivation to go. I'm glad you were able to visit. It must be terrible having to miss such a place.

And yet wonderful, because you have such rich memories of living there.

Christmas in Hawaii is definitely an experience. Always fun to see lights draped around a palm tree! And I think it's lovely to think that it's all just an "opening act" for New Year's, which people tend to celebrate more. But I do love the traditional Christmas feel of holidays in the Northwest, with all the trees and frosty chill.
