Vagabond Chic

These tights seemed to rip the second I put them on, however I've kept wearing them. After all, ripped tights are in, no? Unfortunately for me, apparently most people around me have not gotten the memo...Every time I wear them out, someone kindly feels the need to inform me that my tights are ripped. I'm not just talking friends and acquaintances, but bonafide strangers will walk right up to me and point out the rips...Does anyone else have this problems? Or am I the only victim of non-fashion-y, good Samaritans?
Still, all this silliness hasn't dissuaded me from wearing them out and about. They seemed the perfect compliment to my new Villains and Vagabonds tee shirt and some cuffed jean shorts. I love the trompe l'oeil necklaces with quirky pendants of antlers and rabbit feet on this shirt. It really negates the need to wear jewelry.

Outfit details: shirt- Villains and Vagabonds, tights- Betsey Johnson, shorts- J Crew DIYd, shoes- Pineapple Express, cardigan- H&M, rings- street vendor

my god! i have the exact same problem!
of course my tights are much more ripped,
but people come up to me in the halls at school and say "you have a run in your tights."
and i, obviously, know. sigh.
one girl even said "you need to get new tights, those are ripping."
"really? this is so embarrassing!" i feel like shouting.
but i dont.

theyre actually more ripped up in the back too,
and a challenge to tug on without getting caught,
but i love 'em! as i do yours!

i always have people say dumb things about my outfits! haha. "so there are holes in your jeans." no way? oh good thing you told me, because it's not like i put them there on purpose or anything...

ive seen tons of people having the same issue with their hearted or polka dot tights .. which sucks but its bestto feel the material of the tights before buying .. anyway the look cute still .i have this odd way of putting on tights too lol its quite difficult but it avoids

Why is it that I thought you wore the same (or similar) outfit before? Maybe I'm experiecing fashion fatigue of bloggers wearing the same heart print tights...

aww! that sucks! I think they look cute still tho!

What a great outfit. You look so comfy, but chic and warm. I'm too much of a chicken to wear ripped tights out, so no comments from good samaritans so far. They look fabulous on you!

I always have people comment on my fashion choices... my dad is the worst! I always act so annoyed when he says something but inside I think its funny. A) he just doesn't understand fashion at all. And B) he does it just to bug me cuz thats how he shows affection. So, on the outside it looks like I'm terribly annoyed with my daddy but on the inside, you all know I'm giggling. But shhhh don't tell my secret! Honestly though, if anyone else says something about the holes in my jeans or the hat im wearing or my bright colored tights or my pleated, highwaisted, tapered pants, that look of anger on my face is real! I say rock the hole-y tights because REAL fashion is all about not caring what other people think and expressing the real you.

I'm glad you're still wearing those tights! It would be a waste not to wear them. I know what you mean about people pointing out that kind of thing out though...it's weird.

I do love that shirt and the shape of your shorts though. So fun.

that one little rip? if you were in my town no one would really care haha. When my tights ripped, my residential adviser made of fun of me and said I wanted to be a rebel. LOL But I love your tights, ripped or not!

Some tights look like they ripped on purpose, and others don't. I wrote a blog a while back about the perfect pair of knit tights I was going to wear to work, and they snagged on my way out the door. I was in tears, and my dad was like, "Aren't your legs tan enough?" I was like, "Men don't understand, dad!!" I bought them at Nordstrom a few years prior to the incident, so I knew I could never get them again. I don't know if ripped tights are appropriate for the corporate world... but I like them in the forest. :)

wishwishwish said...

its funny, i've got the same tights and wear them out ripped too - they were too expensive and far too pretty to just throw away - i guess we look 'edgy' now. haha x

katthroatworld said...

cool ring and tights! every time i see you wear that sweater, i kinda wanna wear my own (since i have the same one). haha.. but for some reason i have been less into color these days. lol.

fashion westie said...

I could understand a 'samaritan' comment were I wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase...but when I'm wearing boots held together with duct tape, ripped tights and diy cut offs..don't they think it was intended and the offer of 'you have a hole in your....' is just null and void!!!

Laura said...

people always tell me i have rips in my tights too! oh well, i wear ripped tights anyway :)
really cute outfit :D - i absolutely LOVE that ring!

Fortunately I haven't had that problem yet...for some reason, my tights hold up really well. Probably because I'm super paranoid of avoiding sharp objects. I've gotten a couple of snags from stupid school desks already...

I guess you could tell people your tights are SUPPOSED to be ripped. After all, no one really says anything if a person's jeans are ripped, right? OR you could start hyperventilating and cause a scene and see how they react. Haha that'd be funny :)

Shorts! You look great in shorts.

I have the same tights and got a run in them on the first wear. I'm not much of a ripped tights fan but decided to layers them with a coral pair underneath. It seemed to be a little more appropriate for my look. Maybe that'll ease your audiences mind?

Lara said...

I totally relate! I went through a phase where I was sewing mismatched fabric on the hem of the plain skirts that bored me. Sometimes I used lace and people would come up to me and inform that my slip was showing. Even when it wasnt lace, people never realized that it was intentional. I also have a pair of awesome turquoise tights that my friend ashed on while smoking leaving a little hole in the knee region. People oddly point it out....

Wow, super pretty! I love that shirt.

I have never had someone do that too me, and I am rather glad.

Normally I dislike shorts/tights, but this outfit makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Seriously. And you'd think it occur to people that the person most likely to notice a flaw in the garment would be the person wearing it.

You rock the ripped tights! I agree; Serena (and Gossip Girl, in general) is pretty boring, and so is her look. I dyed and cut my hair to look a little less vanilla, and I'm glad I experimented! Maybe I'll try red next. :) I like your hairstyle a lot too! <3

I think it's great. The hearts are cute, the rips are edgy. Harmony. =)

Way better than wearing jeans inside out, which I did a few times in high school. People would inform me they were inside-out, and I would wonder... who would do that accidentally?

About half my tights are ripped, and I have the same problem, its weird why people feel the need to point it out when we're the ones most likely to notice it first. Though ripped tights are nice.

People don't realize that there's no way you didn't know your tights were ripped, they don't do it because they are nice, they tell you to make you feel uncomfortable.

On an another note, I love your tights, I'm looking for heart tights, but seeing lots of people have their BJ tights ripped, I won't buy those.. xD

And I want your cardigan! ♥

Your rings are always so fabulous. I shall have to keep a better eye out for some of my own.

Loving the t-shirt and that ring is so gorgeous! I would totally look them in the eye each time and say "If you think they look bad, you should have seen the bear". Keeps people guessing. Anyhoo, hope you're having a lovely weekend :)

Those tights are adorable! I love the heart print, hopefully santa will be me some for christmas!

I have exactly the same problem, my tights always rip and people question me why I wear them still! However, it tends to be the people who haven't a clue, so it doesn't bother me too much :)

So jealous of those tights!

Yours actually looks fine as the rips are long and thin, but if there is one thing I can't stand it's holes in tights! The other day I was wearing an opaque pair which ripped as I was on the bus and created a HUGE whole exposing my whole knee. I readjusted the tights so it was more discreet on the side of the knee but the whole day I got comments on the hole in my tights and that I looked like a 'strumpet' (appaz an 18th century slut?). Haha, I can sort of see the funny side now but no, holes in tights are not fun!! xxxx

PS I am still trying to get over the fact that you use a self-timer; your composition, focusing etc, is amazing!

T^T I'm in love with your ring collection!
I was very tempted by such rings at a store the other day but they were selling at the range of $30-$50. Definitely too pricey for someone who doesn't wear them all the time ^^;

I also love the bright colour of your cardigan against the darker components of your outfit, and the background is stunning as usual!

omg, I have those exact same tights and I ripped them too!!!! I hate wearing ripped tights, but these ones are so cute I kind of can't resist. You just totally gave me the courage to wear them anyway!

reckless daughter said...

ah!!! The same thing happened to me! heartbreaking. Only mine was a hole not a run! the day that this happened two randoms felt the need to point out the tear (within 20 minutes of eachother) in the elevator of all places! which just made it worse :(

so I chucked those and ordered another pair which just arrived today as a matter of fact! :( I thought it was just me and my carelessness but it makes me feel better that I'm not alone! the nylon is just so delicate!

TheShoeGirl said...

American Apparel makes tights like these too! :)

calivintage said...

yeah, sheer tights are a pain. they only last for a few wears before they rip and i still haven't mustered the courage to wear mine ripped. maybe if you rip them up even more it will eventually cross over to being totally undeniably obvious that you know they are ripped, no?

ah, silly strangers.

jaunty magpie said...

That shirt is Man Ray-riffic. Reminds me of a silkscreen artist on Etsy whose shop I'm always hovering around. Curse that site -- they will surely be the end of my paycheck! Love the combination of color and texture. Tights are truly magical. I layered a blue fishnet over gray today.
