The key to any remix is imagination. To expand a wardrobe without emptying your pocket try looking at a dress not just as a dress, but a blouse or skirt; a party outfit as something that can be toned down for day; a ladylike garment to be edged up with combat boots. Even the shape of a skirt can be transformed with a few safety pins.
I already wore this Betsey Johnson dress (which I scored for super cheap on Gilt) here, but I can see it worn so many different ways. So, without further ado here are 7 different looks all built from the same dress.
sweater- Gap, belt- vintage, shoes- Seychelles via Weardrobe Conference
coat- Tulle, tights- Forever 21, shoes- Bona Drag
skirt- some shop in Japan, tights- Betsey Johnson via Modcloth, shoes- vintage
jacket- H&M, tights- Walmart, shoes- Urban Outfitters
tiara- Etsy, shoes- Urban Outfitters
sweater- H&M, tights- Walmart, boots- Forever 21
vest- gift from my sister, tights- Fred Flare, shoes- Nine West

Amazing remix!
Lots of inspiration there :)
I think the ability to dress 1 item in loads of different ways is what separates the stylish people from people who just dress well. Style requires vision and you, missy, have it in spades!
x
Aw, I totally love this post! So inspiring!
i can't help myself, i have to pick a favorite: i love the way you pinned up the hem and paired it with black stockings and those black heels with bows. perfection!
I love you remix posts!
My favorite is the one with the black skirt... great contrast!
:)

Your remixes are always insanely epic!
The fourth look is my absolute favorite! The way that you pinned the skirt up for extra volume and ruffle and then paired it with the chic black accessories ... so darn darling!

Legend! Your idea to pin the skirt of the dress to change the shape...
I think you just inspired a lot of people to put away the plastic and hand over $2 for a pack of safety pins! Well done miss!

I just want to say, Ive followed you since your early days and couldnt be more impressed by how much you've grown in terms of your style and photography skills. I feel like your attitude is exactly what more people need to have given the current state of the fashion industry, let alone the nation.
Although your aesthetic is different from mine, your enthusiastic approach from the every hour pictures to your animation posts to your outfits themselves. I think you continually raise the bar for bloggers.
You simply prove that true style can not be bought.

i love all of these looks. your wardrobe really works in so many ways. I am kind of jealous...I think what makes it work is quality basics. Anyway, I love the looks. I have a question though, were all of these looks taken at the same time and if so where are you?
As always you do an impeccable job! I love these posts where you include several different outfits centering around one piece of clothing. It's realistic and applicable to my daily life!
You seem to have such a natural talent for remixing and wearing clothes! Thanks for the tips and encouraging us all to be a bit more imaginative.

I really love it when you do posts like this. So creative to do so many combinations with just a few pieces. My sister and I love your blog and find it so inspiring.
- JoAnn
I love your remixes! I like to mix up my wardrobe to give myself a lot of options. It's amazing what a difference accessories or a sweater can make in changing the entire look of the same dress.
I am really loving the print on that dress...even though it's floral it seems to be perfect for fall! I love it with all the beautiful colors you put it with!
Love the green coat so much. Thaknk you for the info.x
I LOVE how this dress looks so different in every look! Brilliant!
I love the way you created the draping with pins - that's about the best remix look I've seen! And you are the queen of remix! ;)
This flower dress is so adorable :).
I aodre that floral dress!!looks amazing!
although i like all of the looks, the first and third are my favorite. love the wide tan belt and comfy sweater combination. and those tights(!!) are awesome.

princesspolitico
I love your remix posts, they always manage to demonstrate the versatility of the piece in question XDD
Also, am loving the way you tucked in the brown belt in your first picture, and have always liked seeing you pair your green socks with those oxfords!

You are the ultimate outfit remixer. This is beautiful!
colormenana.blogspot.co
Your remix posts are among one of my favorites of yours (I think I say this about every one of your posts but please don't dismiss the sincere validity) because you show how you can expand a closet without spending any money! I need to practice this much more often than I do because I often find myself standing in front of my closet thinking that I hate everything and that I have nothing to wear. You are the queen of remixes!
P.S. Meeting Erin was such a delight. I wanted to meet her even more after you guys had nothing but good things to say about each other after the Weardrobe conference! Now if only you lived closer, as well!
Wow, I adore this remix! Probably cause the dress is so awesome!
i love the look with the skirt over the dress - the skirt is wonderful!
woww I lov this post!! It's so creative! and you look gorgeous!!
beautiful blog!
mycherrygum.blogspot.com
You are so creative, and you inspire me a great deal :)
Love these posts, they really show what one can do with an empty wallet.
i love the way you play with your clothes!!!
Wow did anyone ever tell you that you're amazing? I'm so impressed with all these outfits, esp the one with the pins! Could you do a post showing how you did that?
the safety pins are a great idea! the tulip/bubble shape it takes on is really interesting.
I think the first remix is my favorite. I am such a sucker for a belt over a cardigan.
another great remix post :)
HA! I bought the same dress on Gilt FUSE! ...love it!
Well done! Gotta love Betsey!
Love it. I'm always a big fan of being creative with favorite pieces and making them work across different looks!
I love the way you played with the muted color palette in these! They're very striking. What a cool dress.
its amazing what you can do with clothes!! :) you look fabulous, and thats a great dress!
you're a natural in front of the camera too
I want the dotted tights!!!
That quote is actually one of the reasons that I always try to play with colour combinations when I get dressed that don't always follow the 'rules'. I think people become accustomed to seeing everything in set ways, so sometimes you only need the smallest change to make the largest difference.
That second look is wonderful, I love that coat! And the fifth and sixth looks are amazing :)
Love the different pairings and how to transform the dress in so many ways, it's definitely a great investment if you can wear it so many ways. I've gotten a new wardrobe since I started working and I feel like I'm in dead end coz I'm stuck with how to mix and match! I'm definitely getting ideas now. Thanks!
You could honestly make a plastic bag look fabulous.. you put together great outfits with ease!
you do the styling so well!
