Northwest Blogger Meet-Up

Kam of Needle+Thread and I are planning a Northwest Blogger Meet-Up in Seattle on November 20th. If you're a blogger within the reach of Seattle for a Friday night, shoot me an e-mail to be added to the guest list! We're focusing on fashion, food, and home blogs.
We're also eager to add to our sponsor list, so if you're interested in sponsoring the event and want more details, e-mail me.
When I first saw The Brothers Bloom in theaters I fell in love with Penelope (the epileptic photographer and potential smuggler) and her quirky fashion sense. She paired 60's style sack/shift dresses with heavy black boots, hats, and opaque tights. Following the film I finally felt the call of the grunge and Doc Marten trend, but I have a hard time investing in shoes so outside my usual style. So, these were actually purchased from Forever 21 on the cheap with that gift card I won. Now I'm dressed like Penelope, so hopefully I will soon start having similar adventures with less than scrupulous characters...
Outfit details: jacket- Forever 21, dress- H&M, tights- street vendor, necklace- Talonalia, boots- Forever 21

Wow. This might be my favorite outfit you've worn to date. Everything works so perfectly - the dark green of your dress is gorgeous with your hair and skin color, the leopard print is not too loud, and the boots are the absolute perfect finishing touch!

I never thought I would be into the grunge trend either, but over the summer I fell in love with the idea of Doc Martens and consequently found a pair that I love. I think they're definitely worth the investment, and there are so many pairs constantly for sale on eBay if you don't want to pay so much for new ones. (Personally, I think they look cooler a little scruffy and worn.)

I still have gotten around to watching this movie which is really strange given how much I was looking forward to it coming out. I think one of the main things that attracted me to it was Rachel Weiss' outfits! Suffice to say, I love this outfit!

PS: Happy Halloween!!

Penelope won me over, too! you channeled her spot on. soooo good.

i have those same shoes except in white! i kinda regret not taking the plunge and investing in classic docs though 'cause they don't get much wear--this always happens to me with impulse buys :/

Dee said...

Sigh, my blog isn't really fashion, food, or home- focused. I might just have to order those boots because they look great! I like the 90's injection (without getting too overboard or ridiculous).

leopard jacket + hunter green velvet dress (my favorite color btw) + dr.m-inspired boots = perfect fall outfit. i love F21. H&M, too. :)

your outfit reminds me of one of my miniatures... i have a miniature dress form covered with an outfit, very similar to yours. green velvet baby doll with a leopard scarf. i use it as a desk accessory, it's so fun to look at. i so adore your outfits!

Manja said...

I have actually also thought about getting Doc Martens but didn't buy them for the same reason as you didn't. They're technically not my style and I don't have enough money now to splurge. Plus, the knock-offs from H&M aren't that super cheap either(if you look at the price in Dollar terms)
Anyways, your outfit is so great and it's a good thing that you bought those shoes, they look fab on you.

I have actually also thought about making a *things I still want to do* list but I would probably mainly write down normal things I haven't done yet but really want to do. Like carving a pumpkin or going to an apple orchard. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that, but alas, I am not American ;)

Diane said...

Aw, I think you wear those boots exceedingly well! I love how you styled this entire outfit with the leopard print coat, printed tights, and the green dress.

Fall weather really suits your outfits - the location is beautiful and goes well with your earth-toned ensemble.

Lara said...

Oh Doc Martens! I still have a pair of black ones that are about 12 years old! They may be an investment but,my, they last forever!

Sarah said...

Oh, man, The Brothers Bloom was absolutely delightful. Penelope's wardrobe was just a minor--but crucial--part of the film's wonderfulness. Rachel Weisz wearing it made the style seem elegant and quirky.

Girl in the loft said...

i really really really love those tights and the jacket and the contrast of that emerald green with your hair color is just perfection.

Style Redux said...

I've always loved that jacket. I see it around D.C. here and there... I have the dress in that same fabric. Fab!

Great outfit!! I'm with you on not wanting to invest too much in shoes that you're unsure of - but these boots look pretty amazing! I agree that Penelope's style was something to be emulated!

This post really makes me wish I still had my old DMs. Even if they did make my feet look huge!

jaunty magpie said...

The jewelry is exquisite and I love how you used that jacket in a smart way. I've not quite had the intrepid spirit you have to try an all-over animal print like that, but you have inspired me to be bold and give it proper consideration!

melly said...

Those boots look GREAT! They look really good for boots from F21. That jacket's so good too, I know I say everything's good but it really is. You have such a good eye for picking out what works for you.
