The vintage originals can be hard to track down, but are worth the hunt with their beautiful embroidered details and quality fabric. Thankfully, Bows and Bandits is fully stocked with gorgeous dirndl dresses in a variety of colors and sizes, which takes a lot of drama out of the hunt.
For its first outing I donned the dirndl dress backwards, which takes out the Oktoberfest vibe of the dress.

I pulled out one of my coziest sweaters for a cooler day and headed down to the closest seashore for a bit of release. The rhythmic sound of the waves lapping against the rocky shore is the most soothing one I know and while it isn't the most beautiful beach I have ever seen, I am so grateful to live near the water...

I really love your dress with the belt and flats. It's so beautiful and the background makes it even more so!
awesome sweater. not to mention dress:) but actually, it's getting colder in my country so i'd rather stick to sweaters now.
That dress is gorgeous, the detailing on the bottom is lovely! Your shoes look so comfy. Ahh, that cardigan of yours is amazing. I'd desperate to find a cardigan similar, in a dark colour :)
xxxx
Oh cool! I didn't know that shop..
I'm Austrian and used to wear Dirndl a lot as a kid..but kind of hated in it my teenage years. Now I'm older and again in love with traditional clothes.
i have always wanted to hava a dirndl, even when i was a little girl, but my mum never let me wear one. quite sad considering i live only 3 hours away from munich:D
When you first said "dirndl dress" I thought of something totally extravagant and over the top frilly, but this is really elegant and totally wearable.
I love going to the beach at wintertime too, its so peaceful.
beautiful dress - love the way you're wearing it the wrong way round!! xxx
wow
!
great shots.
and i really like your outfit and the tattoos you've gor:>
xoxo.
The detailing on that dress is beautiful and i like how you wore it backwards for a different look. Also i'm loving your red sweater, it looks so cozy!
awww.I love that dirndl dress of yours gotta look for one....
Lovely dress! I wish our ocean was as pretty as yours! It's freezing year round at the beach here...
The dirndl dress looks terrific backwards; it looks as though it's just meant to be worn like that, plus the low back shows off your tattoos. Nicely done.
your tattoo is really nice!!
Normally I don't like dirdls but this looks really nice!
I adore Bows and Bandits! I have one of their dresses and I wear it all the time!
i love how you wore the dress backwards! that neckline's so low! lol. beautiful dress!
great dress and I love that sweater. I'm in a sweater mood myself at the moment.
you are very lucky to live by the sea!! such beautiful pictures!
you are so lucky! I would love to live by the shore. I really like how you styled the dressx
You wear a dirndl well! It looks awesome on backwards, particularly with your tattoos. When I was in Munich I came across massive shops selling traditional dress to the tourists...alot of the stuff was really pretty! I swore I'd go back one day when I wasn't so poor.
I'm also becoming increasingly jealous of your hair colour! It always looks lovely against colours. I may have to attempt to dye my mousey mop a similar shade..
Can I just thank you for introducing Bows and Bandits?? I am loving the garments on their site.
Beautiful dress!! This has probably been mentioned before, but your hair colour is exquisite :)
Wearing the dress backwards was a clever idea, I would never have known.
I want a teleporter so I can go to that pebbled beach, it looks so incredibly serene!!!
xx
Gorgeous!! ...and I adore it with that pretty red cardigan too - perfect! Will go check out your post!
Great work with the dirndl, I tried one on recently in a vintage shop but ultimately didn't take it home. :-(
what a gorgeous dress, i never know their name! and your little red sweater is the bees knees!
Haha, I giggled at your Oktoberfest comment. Kitchener-Waterloo (where I live) has the biggest Oktoberfest in North America, I think and it's starting this weekend!
The dirndl is sooo gorgeous. I like that you wore is backwards (:
aww i love both outfits. so cute. you can pull off the dirndl very well!
and the black dress looks so versatile and nice.
mm, so beautiful. i love the scenery around where you live. you're right! definitely lucky =)
Your tattoos match the dress so perfectly! I love the color and the embroidery.
I kind of like the dirndl shape--as long as it's not too busty...
Gah, what a pretty dress! I really really want a drindl now.

I absolutely love how you turned the dress around!
and those flats.
<3 the girl.
Your dirndl dress is lovely. As is that UO cardigan. It does look supremely cozy :)
I agree with you. The sound of lapping waves is very soothing. Its calming effect is just as strong for me as is the sound of wind rustling through tall grasses or tree tops.
i really enjoy your red sweater. also you seem to live in the most scenic of places, lovely photos
I like the folky feel both the dress and sweater has. I really like how you turned the dress around to give it the low back. And I want to steal that sweater and hide out in a snowy woods. It reminds me of that childrens book "The Mitten" by Jan Brett.

I love eveything about that dress from the v back and delicate cut and back & bottom accents. super adorable, and yes I'm another one who love to have sweater like yours, stay warm in your beautiful cardigan! it is getting cold in Tennessee as well.
Love that blue/white dress. Thanks for the sweet comment about your/my dress!

Oh so clever to wear the dress backwards- and it looks great. I always love a dress with a lower back, and now I'm sitting here thinking about which dresses in my own closet I can flip around!
The drindl dress worn backwards works surprisingly well! It's very cute. And the decoration isn't too over the top so I bet it looks great right way round as well.
I love how to wore the dress backwards to give it a different look! Living near the water looks amazing and really calming!
I'll be sure to check out the shop right after this

Oh my, I actually like the Dirndl on you (I don't like them very much....). You should come back to germany and tell all the Bavarians at the Oktoberfest (which is actually going on right at this moment) to put all their Dirndls on backwards or wear them with cozy sweaters ;)
i love your cardigan, it's so christmas like :)
leen

You looked absolutely fantastic! I love that gorgeous vintage dress from Bows and Bandits and to top it off with that belt, is a beauty touch! And that sweater looked all cozy and added a sweet touch to your black dress. Very nice.
i've never heard of that dirdl term before, but no matter what you call those dresses you look really pretty. love the tattoos too!
Hahah yes i do wonder what those little kids will turn out when they've grown up! Maybe some of them would probably wonder "Why on earth did my mom dress me in this!"
Your dress is gorgeous, i really love the first one! Everything about it is really nice. So is the cardigan :)
Gosh i wanna experience living near the water, i bet it's great. Having the chance to play near the water everyday. We live near the dessert...it's not as exciting.
I love that dress! Your cardigan is adorable too. I've been looking for one like that for quite a while now, but alas no luck. I will definitely check out UO.

I am so loving that sexy back shot! Gorgeous!
I love the cardigan. Its very pretty and I love how your tattoos are framed in that dress!
Wow, so pretty!!!
I really like the second outfit, it is so perfect for fall.
Where are you in the pics with the red sweater? Did you stud your flats yourself? Really enjoying the outfit posts! Keep it up!
ahhh, I have a dirndl dress too! my mother grew up in Germany and used to dress me in the German national costume more frequently than was necessary! This also included a large closet full of Leiderhosen. yep. I was rocking leather shorts at the ripe old age of six.
Beautiful outfits, I like that you took something so traditional and made it work to todays standards.
Haha I wouldn't never thought to wear a dirndl dress that way!
And that looks like such a peaceful, quiet place.
The Bows&Bandits girls have the loveliest Austrian dresses. And I'm a huge fan of their shop myself!
