Well, in the favor of non-stagnation I got this dress on sale from Urban Outfitters. A simple little black dress like this can be styled in so many ways--I'm especially liking the idea of layering a sweater over it in the winter, but it was so hot when I tried to take the pictures that most of the looks in this remix are summery.

oh how ur so cute in these!
love that red skirt. :--)
You look so lovely - again! Such a wonderful selection of inspiring outfits.
Thank you for letting me use some of your pictures for my Alice collage which is due to be up later this week. I think I chose a different one from the one I first suggested so I hope you don't mind. I will let you know when it's up!
Polly x
I love all of version especially the last one...
XoXo
LOVE both pairs of the nine west shoes, and your leopard jacket is absolutely amazing! I want a leopard jacket now, even though it's eighty degrees out! you look very nice and classy in black.
I Love the scarves in your hair. and I really like the black and white combo with matching shoes. And I really like the outfit pairing with all the green in your hair and purse. It looks like I need to go to urban outfitters for wedges because I haven't found ones I like.
You are such an inspiration!
Verbs to describe style...that's a very intriguing idea. I might have to try it sometime, see if I can make it work.
Little black dresses are quite amazing. I inherited one from my mother, and it's one of the most versatile pieces in my closet.
All fabulous looks, love the scarf and vest look the most! I agree, style should evolve as we do. I can't possibly have the same style for 20 years! ICK!
I believe it is never a waste to have simple little black dress. Sometimes I feel that people think they are only to be used in funerals. I miss them.
you have such an awesome style that I could never pull off. I really like the wall that you photograph with. :)
I think style is definitely a process, but it doesn't change everyday...sometimes it looks the same for ages and then it changes quickly twice in a year. You never can say...
That dress is a stunning and so versatile, like only a LBD can be!!
Black dress is truly magical. And, because of your remixes, now it's addictive. Great job!
I think our personal style can be included as parts of the process - or probably the giving-meaning act to such process. But somehow it is contextual, as the case and the way we perceive it can be different from one to another... My style is normally changing by the time and I'm aware of that. Some people I knew, otherwise, need a certain line of statement that can articulate their core identity; and it should be something consistent, something eminent. Shown by their personal-style, then... But it's a mistery - I never quite sure myself with this answer. At least i'm thinking about it now, and lets see if I can come up with better answers next time... :)
these are great variations of a perfect black dress!
That dress is beautiful and so versatile! I love how different it can look depending on how it is styled
It's so great to have basic pieces like that! I love the first way you styled it!
all the outfits are so cute! i love the flower in your hair in the last pic. is that a real flower? or a hair accessory thing?
I think one of the bigger questions you are asking is: "is the self something essential? Or is it something that perpetually shifts? Am I betraying myself by shifting, or should I not shift at all?
I have no answer to you (sorry!) but I sort of see myself as growing into myself. I experiment with my style for instance, in order to find my essential style that reflects the true me, and when I find it, I will settle. My self discovery is very alchemical in that sense. Alot the people I admire had one particular look that embodied them entirely (their golden template if you will ;) I am sure, however, there are many others who defined themselves in their lack of defintion.
Great remix, my most favorites being the scarf in your hair photo and the striped top layered look and shoes.
Also, you're right about style needing to change if it truly is an expression of who we are as people... good thought for the day!
I love that dress. And I love the amount of times you've restyled it perfectly! :)
xxxx
I'm curious to know if you think in your head, how many ways you can wear a piece, before purchasing it? You definitely see clothings in a unique exciting way. Tucking dresses into skirts, i'd never think of that!
Adorable remixes! I can't choose which one I like the best.
i love how you showed some of the mnay ways one piece can be utilized/is versatile.
it's almost as if the viewer is watching a change in style take place--especially neat because that's what you were talking about!
I adore the first look! I know you don't wear really stand out make up, but it would look wonderful with red lips and smoky eyes.
that dress is totally cute on you! I got a great Paul & Joe dress on sale at Urban. Also (idk why I'm telling you this) I went to a garage sale at my friend's café this weekend, which was actually a garage giveaway since he wasn't pricing anything. and got this kids dress for free that his ex-girlfriend had. It's black and blue plaid with buttons and although I had to cut the neck open to get my head through it, I've gotten tons of compliments.
I was actually thinking about stagnant style, etc. just yesterday. I've kind of dressed the same since I was in high school. Soft, snippety t-shirts with homemade or tiered or pleated patterned skirts and flats. Since I've been at school I've been wearing skinny jeans with coats and short boots, but my style hasn't changed that much. I definitely need a remix of my own. Also the only 3 non-thrift store cool places to shop without driving to salt lake are now officially out of business. Which blows.
Wow, I'm talkative today.
What a cute dress. I love it with the polka dotted tights. They are all great remixes.
i do not feel that style is a reflection of personality, but your post got me thinking.
also - i love when you wear the scarf on your head! it's so cute.
Nice!!!
Lovely! I completely over-wore black when I was an angsty teenager and ever since have had a bit of a fear of wearing it. Now I overcompensate a bit by being very colourful! Recently however I've become addicted to checking up on The Uniform Project every day to see how she's styled her black dress and it's been really inspiring, as are these pictures. More and more I keep being drawn to things which aren't really stereotypical 'me'. I think it's exciting to do this :)
I don't think we get TCM...
I love those Betsey Johnson tights with dots! With my return to Alaska imminent I've been thinking about tights a lot. Mine are all old and worn out.
Unrelated query:
Do you have any idea what you're gonna do now that you've graduated? Or where you are going to live (if you plan on moving out)?
Lovelyy dress, the versitility here is amazing, and everyy single look is greattt
I adoreee your Betsey Johnson tightss
Looking cute as always.
Every which you wear it looks good!
Such interesting thoughts on the evolution of personal style. It reminds me of how Spanish has 2 different verbs for "to be": "estar" (a temporary state that will be in flux) and "ser" (a permanent state).
i love how you carry off your mother's scarf. beautiful!
Ah, a very thought provoking post. I feel that personal style is more a partial reflection of who the individual is for reasons of growth, progression, etc. I like your idea of describing style with verbs.
The striped dress/striped shoes remix is very cute :)
i love that leopard print jacket:D actually i love everything. it's all fantastic. i never thought you would actually reply to that comment haha but thank you. i kind of just posted a comment on a random entry that i saw nail polish on haha i really like the colors you mix. they're not tacky and you pull them off very well. your blog is fantastic by the way:D
I love the scarf around your hair and the updo with the plait :]
http://pixiethedaintydoll.blogspot.com/
You are such a wonderfull person, the style you show is always so flexible...
I guess personal style is more like a reflexion of things we cannot say but we are craving for screaming them out really loud...
The scarf in the third outfit makes it look fantastic!... by the way, that Pentax is a treasure, take good care of it... :)
Cute!! Man, do I need polkadot tights.
I love when you do remixes.
I've been infatuate with those shoes in the very first picture for awhile now. and that Cheetah coat is pretty nice as well.
http://thedollhouse0101.blogspot.com/
wow that dress is perfect, so great for remixes. I love the first one, and the one with the green belt, looks so pretty!!
I know what you mean about changing styles - a year ago I lived in jeans, now it's dresses and crazy coloured tights and experimenting, but I suppose in a few years I'll tone down the crazy and wear more classic stuff. I guess it's got to do with growing up and life progressing, as you said, but it makes me kinda irritated. I don't want my style to be stagnant but I don't want to have to completely change because I'm "grown up" and have to start acting like an adult.
sorry for the rant. I have this extreme peter pan complex as you can probably tell :P
You are the master of transforming a simple black dress! I love all of them! Especially the one with the gray vest and a scarf, the one with the leopard coat and of course, with the pretty red skirt! So creative! xxoxoxo
Wow a good issue to ponder. Personally I do feel like style evolves and changes as I grow.
lovely remixes! i love your shoes on the first, fourth and last photos!
i love the dress! it's so versatile.
yeah, i know how you feel about rompers. but in reality, it's not that awkward...i have another romper and it's usually pretty easy to take off and everything haha. it took a while to get used to though.
nothing is quite as versatile than a LBD. Lovely.
Well if personal style is a reflection of the individual then you are just an amazing girl as I supposed:)
As Claradevi said, I also think it's contextual. Anyways yes, but it's also so relative, because in our opinion our personal style can reflect our personality, different thoughts, different moments, different moods. All them are special for us and they are somehow reflected on us. But then not everybody can see it, or appreciate it in the same way.
I like your opinion of us changing continously. I don't like when ppl told me "don't change". I mean, I know they said that in a positive way because they liked me in that way, but we ALWAYS can and (I think) have to change, in a better way.
Oh an another comment was alright, in Spanish we have 2 verbs for "be": SER & ESTAR, which are difficult to use for foreigners that learn Spanish BUTTT are so useful and so TRUE! They have totally different ideas.
PS. I love that tights, I saw some like that in Vogue or any other magazine and I told my mum I wanted them:)
PS2. I love Urban Outfitters, but we don't have it in Spain, sigh.
PS3. I decided to finish my comment, otherwise you would start sleeping before finishing it:)
amaaazing remix, as usual. these always inspire me to become more creative with the clothes i own. i especially love the second one, with those gorgeous turquoise heels.
love when you post the same piece with different looks
my fave is the second to last.
a great philosophical theory! i believe that u have amazing style as just like u have indicated in this post u may wear something a million times but it will look different every time :D i am also in LOVE with ur green belt <3
Cypriotchick
cypriotchick.blogspot.com
You do th best remixes ever!
My favourites are the green belt and fascinator combo, and the one with the striped dress layered under.
once again all of these looks are great but I love the double stripes & anything with that skinny green belt, wow!
your thoughts on personal style are very interesting. I think as well evolve personally, some aspects of ourselves stay the same so personal style can be reflected this way...but yes it should evolve a little with ourselves too
Personal style is definitely an interesting concept. I've alway thought that with style, I am a canvas and creating an outfit to wear is like creating a piece of art. Therefore, my style hopefully reflects the creativity that went into choosing the outfit. Of course there are things like..if I just feel like being comfy and wearing sweats, that is another story but I think you get what I mean :)
Ooh, the LBD is such a versatile & staple piece to have in one’s closet, LOVE the different ways you ‘remixed’ it, especially with the cute scarf wrapped around your head! Oh, and of course the outfit with the striped top! :)
xx
CC
hi, i love your jacket, i just saw it on forever 21 and i fell in love for it, but is so hot i can't even wear a sweater over a dress, i think style is declare your independece and be just you, without following a "style". Love your blog!
xoxo!
I love your remixes! This a really versatile dress! I especially like that stripey outfit :)
I think personal style is indeed a never ending process and it's more about feeling comfortable in certain pieces than making sth your "trademark". It can be a long talk, but on that "it's about the journey not the destination side
Que bonito todo! me gusto mucho! sales muy guapa
I think you are so creative in doing this, because I would never think to wear it such ways. Clothes underneath, with skirts... So cool! My favorite is the pic with stripes, but you look so pretty in all! :) If you would want to, I tagged you for an award in my blog.
I love the skirt in the last picture !
This is amazing. Wow. Especially the first two, I love those.
You are simply brilliant at remixes!! I love how you created so many different looks with one simple but very versatile black dress. I can't decide on a favourite because they are all unique and beautiful!!
what a savvy find. our style changes as we change. what i like 10 years ago, i don't necessarily like today. 10 years from now, i am sure i will be different again.
I think consciously or not your style will evolve. At least, that's what happened to me throughout these past years. You go thorugh life changes as well as physical so I think with that comes a new perspective of clothing and the way it makes you feel.
I love these outfit remix's. My personal fave is the scarf worn as a headband, it can add dress up any outfit.

Such cute ideas! And I love little black dresses
That's a nice staple piece ...good cute and sure a black dress can be timeless!
It reminds me of that girl who's doing that One Dress for A Year Challege! I'll be damned if I can remember her, but I'm sure you know who I'm talking about!
Anyway, CH, I have a little teeny favour to ask: I'm getting in touch with everyone on my blogroll to help me with a new Discover the Undiscovered Blogs project I'm trying to kick start!
Let's Hear It For The Little People!!lol!
Info is here: http://chicknamedhermia.wordpress.com/2009/08/03/discovering-the-undiscovered/
...so please do help!
love those burgundy pumps
Your outfits are so creative! I looove the vest in the third picture (I think it's the third picture, I'm too lazy to go look haha).
All the ways you wear the black dress is really creative. Love those fascinators and the vintage shoes in your first outfit:)
What a perfect dress! Should be a lot of fun to mix with your wardrobe - looks like you've already got a good jump on possible outfits! :)
love this dress. it's so simple yet chic, and like you said, it's perfect for remixing. i sometimes prefer rather simple clothes because their easier to remix and wear different ways.
The versatility is amazing. I especially love the way you dressed it up in the fourth and last photographs.
Oh this gets me really excited for fall. I love all of the reds and the stockings! Beautiful outfits.
Natalie xx
How stupid - I didn't see my name is mentioned as the winner - thank you!
(too excited to talk about the personal style, i guess) :D
Love your little leopard jacket. Too adorable.
RE:
Thank you - that means a lot coming from you - I am totally in love with your style!
I def think style is constantly evolving as we evolve, my style changes every year or so it seems. Love the double stripes look!!
you 've got style!!!it is amazing!!!same dress but seven different ways to wear it!!you are my inspiration!!!xx
Interesting post. I think every person is in constantly changing and that style does follow suit, but not with every change. I think the main question is when does what we find appealing change? This dictates our style.
Personal style can remain the same for a long time that way. Or in the span of a few months can change because of some large stimulus in the person's life...Or slowly over time; I suppose it just depends what we are exposing ourselves to and what we are learning.
I am rambling kind of. I hope that made sense.
Wow, that's so interesting. I definitely do see personal style as evolving, but it has elements that stay the same, which to a certain extent, is true of the individual, too. What sort of verbs would you use, though?
I love the dress with the cheetah jacket! I can't imagine how you wore that in this heat, though.
psst... I just came back from the post office. Expect something in the mail in about a week or so!
as you see, the LBD is always a yes! you look beautiful!
Your photos are so beautiful! Im so envious... Really love your clothes and they way you match them =)
Such a lovely dress worn so well by you in each and every outfit!! Black is something my wardrobe lacks... i must update!
I really liked your thoughts on personal style. For me, I love vintage clothing and I really admire women who can pull off the 1940s look consistently. And although I would love to do what they do, I know I can't because I also love clothes from the 60s and even the 80s and 90s sometimes. I like changing things up. I like "evolving" like you said. And just like I've grown the past few years so has my personal style and I can't wait to see what I come up with tomorrow. And with inspirational bloggers like yourself to inspire me, I'm looking forward to what's to come. For instance the way you remix and use pieces in different ways, it makes me excited to see what new things I can come up with in my closet. Thank you!
Striped shoes!! <3
I really love all the looks! That shoes you're wearing on the first picture are just gorgeus! love them <3
As I'm scrolling down I'm thinking "OH! I like those shoes best and that outfit is adorable ...no, no, no I like THAT outfit best and that top is perfect with it..."! So, I can't decide and I think they are all as equally as lovely as each other!!
Totally love each and every remix of this dress. Fabulous.
Love these shots!! And I adore your gold cuff... I need to get me one of those ;)
XO

I guess personal style forever evolves as you go through life, but still with a hint of your own style throughout. Very interesting question! :)
soo charming!
I love the different stylings of the same dress; it reminds me of The Uniform Project!
http://theuniformproject.com
I love all the looks, and I desperately want your shoes from the first picture!
LOVE how you styled the scarf on your head and those peep toes are too cute!
Hm. Insightful editorial. Btw, those Betsey Johnson tights are beyond adorable. And I love the LBD's.The scarf on your head is so chic, and I also like the grey waistcoat. the green patent belt+ the fascinator plus the nine west shoes are lovely. and..okay, so I could go on. Basically, beyond chic.
Ahhh i always love your mix and match outfits, they give so much inspirations :D
Such a simple dress yet so many combinations to play aorund with.
I love the 2nd and 5th one the most!
I love the pockets! I love anything with pockets, really. I've been searching for the perfect black dress for a while, but haven't found it yet.
i think i definitely have a personal unique style that changes weekly. i wear many different "hats" so to speak lol
I love your remixes - they're always so creative and give me great ideas for new ways to wear all my own clothes (which is good, since next year when I start college my parents will no longer be funding my shopping habit >.<). My favorite is the 4th look! I love how you matched your shoes + tights!
Hi The Clothes Horse,
Thank you for featuring our, Love at first tights, in your outfit remix! We appreciate the support.

I tghink personal style is very suvjective. Some people tend to stick to a " uniform ". Like blazer + dress everyday. While some people like to be creative! :)
I love all of these, especially that last one. You are incredibly adorable, my dear. And you are a constant inspiration for me to remix my clothes!
P.S. Thanks for the recommendation on scheduling my posts! I will have to set aside some time to do multiple posts.)
Is that a Pentax K-1000 you're holding? If so, amazing camera, I have one, too! They are sturdy little beasts.
You look so cute in the second one!
I saw this dress while I was snooping around on Forever21.com and thought of you. It has a seashell belt! :)
http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&category_name=dress&product_id=2064200472&Page=2
P.S.I was the person who left a link about the Chipmunks/Storm Troopers. I didn't mean to be anonymous, but for whatever reason, it wouldn't let me sign in. I think the man who took the pictures said that he befriended the chipmunk family with food and they keep coming back every year. Aww!
you are adorable chic!!!!!
beautiful! I especially love the outfit with the secondhand scarf and vest. =)
Oh wow, that remix is great! I really need more simple versatile pieces in my wardrobe that I can really remix.
I love the sweet little flower accents in your hair! SO cute!
i love your outfits!!!they ar really amazing;)
xx
cute dress! love how you styled it especially in the 3rd and 5th pictures:)
I'm not just saying this to kiss ass but the plethora of ways you remix is inspiring. I love my clothes and closet and this is inspiring me to take it to the next level. Maybe just use what I have in my closet and not shop and pay off the line of credit? Ok, that's foolish talk...
Great buy!
My favorites are 2, 4, and 7. That dress looks wonderful on you.
Love, love, LOVE your style!!
Heck yes! Your remix posts are always the greatest. <3
fabulous dress and so many great stylings of it! Love.
This is so glorious. I know this is so not original to say, but I love your remixes! The first two looks and the fourth are my favorites. You look so gorgeous!
great selection of outfits
What a versatile dress!
As always, I love your remixes. I've been inspired to do the same (but am too lazy to set up the photoshoots! Haha). You are such a source of inspiration, though. And thanks for the great styling ideas!
