This "Mutants" series by artist
Gad Charney is a statement on mankind's transforming potential--hybrids of animals or the plastic surgery craze. Despite the chalky coloring given to these dissected and reborn plastic toys, I find them somehow endearing. Perhaps it's the knowledge that each of these creatures is completely alone and without brethren or their seeming helplessness due to being headless or of disproportionate build.

"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

wow. although I get the impression that these are designed to shock, I like you find them more loveable than repulsive. they just look so...lost, I guess is the best way to describe them. and they kinda make me happy... xx
They do seem like lonely creatures. It's an interesting commentary on how humans try to tweak nature.
Now that you say lonely, I can see tha, they are all mutated and the only one of their kind. How sad!
XOXO

wow, love them ^^. they are so creative! awesome ^^
these are amazing pieces of artwork. very melancoly, in its own way.
these are so cool, very original and haunting wow
I love that quote! And I love these creatures. They're the coolest things ever. I love animals, I'm not a huge fan of mutant hybrids, cloning etc. but I want to adopt one of these and cuddle with it!
Great quote! Your blog is adorable. I love your outfits and photography.
These are excellent! I find myself wishing I had a few, just to play with.. :)
haha aww they're cute!
Oh, i do love them ! So weirdly wonderful and creative.
(:
xx
They're not weird - probably some of them exist in the middle of nowhere in the real world, could we ever know? And the funny thing is, I realize, those creatures used to be called as 'the monsters' or sort of that... due to their somewhat unusual appearence and scary figures... but the real monster is sometimes found in ourselves, even my ownself or just the other human beings - with everything we've done to the earth and people and so on - and we all think that we look more beautiful and gorgeous and else. I think that's funny. And your post make me think a lot more about it! This is such a great post.
Those guys are creepy, I guess I'm used to boring reality, but I would love to see those running around...
Who knows... maybe they are out there some where... I just havent seen them yet...
:)
oh wow they're unique ! and somehow scary . haha !
Really neat that they're plastic toys. Animal-morphs is a popular theme these days. You might like my friend's art: http://www.joncarling.com

These creatures are verryy endearing, and they seem so alive, though they are made of only plastic. They make me feel somewhat sad...
this is so amazing. i love how you find these things. i've never even heard of these before. they do seem quite lonely though.
These are really kind of freaky! But kinda cool at the same time..
I love your blog so so much, I read it everyday.

They look pretty interesting! I would love to have them on my desk and see how people react.
It would be pretty cool to see you in December! I know it's still pretty far away but very exciting to know you'll be coming here :-) xxoxoxoxo
These are incredible, thanks for sharing!
so interesting! :-)
XoXo
Those are amazing!
that Friedrich Nietzsche quote is one of my favourites of all time!! your blog just gets better every day :)
I find the animal kingdom so bizarre anyway that a couple of these looked ok to me. It took me a long time to figure out what was wrong with the last one!
sweet kind soul you have. i gotta revisit Nietzsche. he's led quite a miserable life...
i feel kinda bad for the animal without a head
where do you find all that artwork?
You are a culture vulture.
I love it!
These are really cool actually. I wonder how they're exhibited? Would these be displayed as individual objects or as large scale photographs? I can imagine if displayed as the latter these would look quite magnificent. I think the grey defintely makes them even more alien and lonely.
Those are really cool :). I like them.
Whoa! The second photo is so interesting!
Those are amazing. I especially like the bear like animal with a tale for a head.
Wow, these are brilliant. Excellent concept x
They are kind of endearing in a lovely, odd manner.
very intriguing but a little melancholy

Hey this is Ava (I wrote for Intreegue) and I just wanted to stop by and say hello. I'm still a huge fan, and I would just die if you looked at my new blog. The animal figures are absolutely adorable. Hope to hear from you soon.
Scratching my head at the second pic. Haha...
Theses are magnificent! Look at that detail!
Do you know what they are made of?
At first, I didn't even realize they were hybridized animals. It'd be pretty cool if they were real though :D
Such interesting sculptures and a wonderful quote (one of my favorites). Eerie in on the surface but truly profound at it's core.
How interesting!
WHOA. Really intense.
These remind me of a book I had when I was a kid that had the heads, bodies and tails of animals separate, so you could flip through and mix and match them. So creative.
Even though they look a bit odd, they are quite cute in a way, especially the headless one!
They remind me of some of the weird and wonderful mammals that sprung up after the fall of the dinosaurs, ever see Walking with Beasts lol?
those words were spoken by a true philosopher! i love nietzsche. beautiful. just simply beautiful.
These are fascinating. I think they inspire more to think than shock, because some of them are quite cute in their own way. Of course anything is possible these days with genetics - there have already been attempts at making hybrid creatures, so it's not that far out there. Thanks for sharing!
Hmmm, fascinating.
Completely and utterly in love with the second little critter! I want to collect them all!
So awesome! I want one, or two...
I hope my future kids won't be messed up when I get this for them.
