Months ago my sister sent me a link to this editorial because she thought I would like it. It is titled "The Young Men And The Sea" but it reminds me more of "Captains Courageous" starring Spencer Tracy. Either way, the photographer and models for once shot a nautical themed editorial that seems authentic rather than cliche or laughable... Wow! The models are perfect for this. Their expressions (and facial hair) seem so appropriate to the theme. I love the textures and neutral colors of the clothes. It's cool that they could do such a serious editorial like this and still make the clothes worth looking at from a fashion perspective.
it looks so interesting! I love the texture and the quality of photos with the muted colors and crispness. And the beards are perfect, thanks for sharing these. -indigo
Excellent! I do think fashion needs more authenticity. It's veered into the territory of stylization and parody, which has its place and time, but I think we need reminding of the Real.
I've worked with/on ships with sailors, and yeah, these do look really authentic. They could have thrown in a ukelele though. I know it seems hokey, but seriously. Also, did you know that many sailors have a pig and a rooster tattooed one on each foot? It is said that pigs and roosters are two animals who will not go near the ocean. The lore is that the images will keep a sailor from drowning.
i love this style of photogrophy-the guy with the dark hair and beard is really cute and reminds me of my crush. =) *sigh* i love your new blog banner, btw! =)
Wow. Those images are incredible. I love these more than if it was some fancy couture girl. Juxtaposition is great, but this is just so brilliantly beautiful in its grittiness.
I like the DI in this set; the photos with a aqua tone and harsh grain quality gives off the salty feeling of the sea. It also helps that the models are rugged for the jobs :D
Wow! I checked the source and I wasn't suppriced that it is a creation of the Swedish stylist Oscar Arrsjö. Always a pleasure to be inspired by his work. I've seen him work with the photographer in this shoot before. I would say they are the best teamed up stylist/photographer out there for the moment. Looking forward to new pics!

Great editorial. You're right it really does seem authentic.
I agree that this nautical editorial seems much more authentic than most. I especially like the picture of the man in the hammock.
Perfection! Thanks for sharing this editorial...
XoXo
...Weirdly enough this made me think of A Cautionary Song from The Decemberists...!!!
and on a side note but weirdly again the word for verification below here is "ramen". LOL.
Oh wow! How gorgeous - the styling, the clothes, the guys... all of it absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing.

Also, love the new layout!

lovely editorial-i absolutely love it! the models are great
Great editorial. My father is quite obsessed with the seas, so I've gained that appreciation of the nautical theme from him.
Wow. This is awesome. Now THIS is what editorials should look like. It's so real. It reminds me of Ernest Hemingway or Orson Wells. Beautiful.
wow unexpected sartorial inspiration! i love when that happens
The photographer in me is crushing on the muted saturation and soft edges... thanks for sharing!
what a beautiful shoot, very epic. i luv the photos and the finish, they look totally vintage.

I love this editorial!! It reminds me of my Hubby, I'll have to show him... thanks for sharing this.
Nice.
Wow thanks for sharing... it's a really unique series I think, for many reasons... but all in a good way ^_^.
Of course I have to love that! Real men, the sea and sailor chic. Sigh...
not only unique but quite hot :D
Wow, that is some goooood facial hair. Love the hammock picture, and the whole feel of it all. You are right, it feels very authentic.
baah, had a double take in which i wondered if that model was will oldham. haha.
That's a LOT of the Vibrance Slider in the RAW window. Sry, had to make a photoshop-centric comment.
Reminds me of my dad - he's a sailor :P
PS love me some Tracy!
I love that the editorial tells you a story. And the men are handsome and rugged. Nice.
Ooohhh, I love the new layout and design!!
I love the whole concept. Some of the photos even look like paintings rather than photos. The men really fit in with the story and theme. Love it.
It looks really realistic and I like the models' expressions. Great editorial! xxoxoox

I agree with Alice- I totally thought of The Decemberists, too. What a great editorial!
I'm impressed by all that facial hair.
Gorgeous gorgeous! I love the coat the bearded gent is wearing - the navy blue tailored one! Very nice set of photos - many thanks!
I love it, the models actually looks like authentic sailors rather than your average, I dunno, "stripe T with a rope" variety.
Indeed, most nautical shoots seem more inspired by 50's cruise musicals than reality. Its amusing that realism is now radical...

mmm i love these. great mood. reminds me of The Ancient Mariner. :)
beautiful photo set! the photographer did an amazing job with the colours. i love the gradients on the clouds and sky. great composition as well!
whoa.. it's brilliant! the whole thing reminds me of ANTM!!
xx
Oh god, those are gorgeous models. I wouldn't mind sneaking into their boat and running (sailing) away with them. :)
beautiful- thanks for sharing! those skies are incredible!
Damn, I love guys that are unshaven & all.
you are right it is very authentic.
the men look like men !
lol
and also i can see why your sister would show this to you . it seems you would definitely dig this
There's nothing better than sailors! :)
Those are probably the first male models ever that I find attractive! This editorial is great! It does really remind me a little of Hemingway :)
Wow these are amazing photographs! I love that the guys look like they have strong characters and personalities.
In other words.. swoon..
Oh wow. This is editorial excellence if you ask me! The authenticity is nice for a change. Thank you for sharing this.
Interesting editorial, it does seem rather genuine... and it also helps that they're gorgeous :)
How incredibly outstanding. I am in love the plasticity of the colours!
xx
These are incredible. THanks for posting them. I feel newly inspired. =]
Awesome picks!
i couldn't agree more about this editorial looking so authentic. inspiring!
this is such a cool mens ed. I usually ignore most mens fashion spread - maybe I should rethink this.
Is it for real? Oh my, it looks real to me. I love the contrast within the picture, the scenery, and also the man standing there.
I think the clothes did add some spice to the effect the picture wanted to show.
I bet Ralph Lauren have a cool collection of clothes which can beat that one in the picture.
Better check this site !
I love the treatment of the photos and those sweaters may be for men, but I would love for myself!
I wouldn't mind being out at sea with either of them
gorgeous
