Only a couple of hours after waking I found myself seated in a dentist chair contemplating my gratitude that I have no claim to fame. You see, the inherent discomfort involved in allowing an inquisitive stranger to poke around in your mouth must surely be compounded if one is a celebrity. I imagined the pressure of trying to live up to some sort of perception while lying on my back and letting something stick their hands in my mouth...and I was grateful to not be "known."
Later, I dropped by a Joanne Fabrics with my mother for a few odds and ends. At checkout the cashier informed me, "I read your blog."
I was so startled my underwhelming reply was, "Oh." This was followed by a long, awkward silence and eventually the question of, "Do you write a blog?"
At her negative response, I was once again at odds on what to say and was relieved to flee the store shortly afterward. In the parking lot my mother laughed at my being recognized and chastised me for not being friendlier, but as I have stated before on this blog, I am an extreme introvert. Writing is such a welcome medium for me because it allows me time to compose and edit my thoughts without the awkward pauses that might interrupt conversation and gives me a safe distance from those I am communicating with.
This minor event occurring on the self-same day that I was feeling pleased with the anonymity of my person struck me as hilariously ironic. Isn't that how life so often is?
So, to those readers who have had (or will have) the misfortune of meeting me in person (when I least expect it) and being subject to my social ineptitude, I do apologize.

i especially love your jumping pictures.

I absolutely love your tights. Especially the first one.
I've actually got a very similar dress to the one you wear on the second set of photos!
Looking very pretty!
C.Elizabeth
I love it when you're wearing the cute ballett flats from Bonadrag.
Haha I love your story! I indeed see the irony! Whenever I see a fellow blogger, I get excited...then run away. I'm a bit shy like that. But I totally understand about your thoughts on having a blog and having time to compose thoughts and ideas behind a computer screen, with easy access to the "backspace" button. I'm like that too :)
awwww! i'm not sure how to respond when people mention they read my blog. i used to have a link to it on my facebook, but then i just got too embarrassed and took it down. i usually just blush and smile and look down.
Your photoshoot is so cute! Love your firt outfit.
Ha! I'm an extreme extrovert and I can only imagine the day that someone might recognize me from my blog :-) I'll probably have them over for dinner.
i have never met someone from the blogging world in real life, but i'm sure it would be a bit awkward at first since i'm really bad at keeping a conversation going with people i don't really know. i can understand you
Great irony, great tights too! I'd love to meet someone who recognised me from my blog, the closest I got was someone who I know from uni who was browsing the blogosphere. Nevertheless, meeting bloggers is fun!!
Love the outfits! And I can relate to being a introvert. I'm not good at meeting new people and suddenly become very shy. I lack social skills so badly!
xo
Sophie
You are such a lovely writer! I really enjoy reading your stories and thoughts! Beautiful dresses and accessories!
Oh ! The first dress !!!
Hahaha that's honestly soo ironic
Gorgeous outfits
Love the nail colour
thats so funny!
your dresses are so cute. do you wear tights in the summer though? you must live somewhere cold?
lovely striped dress! :-)
love the outfits, especially the tights! how awkward though! i would respond in just the same way, except i would turn bright red and start panicking! don't feel bad :)
erin
Spotted! That sounds like fun dear CH... I would completely freak out, I'm so ridiculously shy. Thank you for sharing your story, love the stripped dress and lacy stockings.
(ps. I've passed some awards on to you today!)
Oh don't feel too bad. It even takes my friends about five minutes to warm up to me.
that's a hilarious story. especially since you just commented on my latest post agreeing that we definitely can modify who we are via the blog and talk about things we might never otherwise.
You're very funny! Loved that story you shared. Beautiful as always in your cute outfits. I wish it was as sunny here as where you are. Polly x
Start yelling "no pictures, no pictures" at imaginary paparazzi when you leave the house -- so much fun! ;-)
You're famous!
Or something.
LOVE those photos. The yellow grass, deep green trees, and vibrant blue sky really set off your wardrobe.
Aw, you were recognised! Take it as a compliment :) But I know what you mean about being an extreme introvert. I saw an Australian blogger in a shop once, but I got so shy I didn't even say hi and just walked away - which I hate myself for because at the time she was one of my faves (her blog has stopped now). So if it makes you feel any better, chances are that cashier felt shy too.
Don't worry about being an extreme introvert, a lot of people are. Byfar, you are most likely not the most awkward either. Lovely shoot, and nail polish!
Oh my... Look at those outfits of yours!
They are wonderful!
I would probably feel really awkward too if somebody recognized me. I don't blame you for being shy! Your outfits are adorable, as always!
That's so great that story of yours! That happens to me too when someone I know actually looks at my drawings online - I freeze usually like a rabbit in the headlights! So much for being a charismatic sales woman! Your photo shoot here is divine!
hilariously ironic indeed!
love your pictures like always!
Ooooh I love your feather ring, it's gorgeous.
I would totally be the same about meeting readers...but then again I don't have nearly as many as you do! I'm quite shy too.
I think I would have reacted the same way! I totally agree with you about how you feel about writing vs. in person, so don't worry!
Also - I'm working on a post about red lipstick and I really love what you wore a few posts back, but I can't seem to find the name of it... would you mind sharing? ^_^;;
Your tights are making me wish fall was here! Love the blue nail polish. I'll have to check it out.
P.S i'm putting together a post on Alice in Wonderland and how it influences bloggers style. I'll be putting together a collage of images and would you permit me to put some of your images from your 'A Bit Like Dorothy' post? Polly x
I so enjoy all your posts! =) keep up the EXCEPTIONAL work!
At least the dentist didn't recognize you. Can you imagine how embarrassing that would be?! I probably would have reacted in a similar manner. Sometimes my conversations with friends are filled with awkward pauses because I don't know what to say.
It is interesting to realize that we can be a different kind of person on our blog than in real life! I would never have guessed you to be so introverted! You write so eloquently. I am curious to know how you take your pictures. Is it with a tripod? And do you edit them? And if so, would it be okay to ask what you use? I love the look of them. You always look amazing.
you look lovely in those photographs.
i love the tights, i really like tights and socks. >.<
i love your outfits, and the fields you are in, are beautiful.
xx
Love your outfits.
i'm pretty introverted too.. and private. i find this whole blogging thing to be very strange, but maybe a way of opening up a bit?
i think you're crazy pretty, and i love your first outfit.
http://www.rocknrollgypsy.com
Really great photos this time. I love the colors.
Bugles and cannons in the early morning? That sounds so much more cinematic than the noisy neighbors/traffic/construction that usually wakes me up! Ah, the charm of city life...
U are very good in what u do that's why ur becoming a celebrity...haha....I understand u...I'm an introvert as well...It runs in my family...:)
Thanks for your comment on my post...It was greatly appreciated.
I love your entry and your outfits today! YAY! P.S. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm sure you have MANY to catch up with...=)
i get you.
love your 'seafoam' rings. love all your accessories.
do you worry about the blades ruining your stockings? i don't suppose but i'd like to know. i like how you wore the dottie ones with the striped dress.
I love both of your tights. They are gorgeous. So is that first dress. x
I always think it would be funny to meet anyone who read my blog. People are so different in person than through writing, I think. I always thought that the idea of strangers writing to each other and falling in love, then meeting each other in person and still being in love was somewhat preposterous. I am not sure if this makes me a pessimist or a realist. I suppose it depends on how accurately one presents them self in writing...
It seems that many of us fashion bloggers are actually quite, shy, somewhat geeky people, doesn't it?
Ahaha, so this is the recognition you meant! I understand.. I'm pretty much an introvert myself. And probably you shouldn't have to apologize - nothing wrong about yourself or your 'unfriendly' response, sometimes its just because the common shared customs in society said that the 'nice behaviours' is determined by always being friendly with others, give smile in return, having polite and nice conversation...and stuff. But people do have their own character and reasons why they do or can't do something like other people do in general - even if they wanted to. Daijobu datta! I think you're always lovely. And also your outfits today. :)
Your style has been much... free-er lately. Not as structured as the past while you were in PA. :)
You are gorgeous and such an inspiration to me!
Oh meet me, another fellow introvert. Shocking, isn't it? I think most of us bloggers are. I'm not extremely shy but I do oftentimes myself wondering how I'd respond if someone confronted me with the same ("HI I RECOGNIZE YOU FROM YOUR BLOG!") and caught me completely off guard. I am sure I would answer much in the same.
That's nice. You know everything about me and I...I...I....know nothing about you.
*flails and grasps at straws*
*runs away*
I love both sets of tights you're wearing. And the story is indeed ironic! But it brought a smile to my face especially at the thought that, of course, you're human. It's just easy to forget that when you're such a lovely and well known blogger. I love reading what you write by the way; it has such an easy flow and is so easy to relate to, even if it's not exactly relatable at the moment.
haha I totally agree with Chloe's comment above! I've been blogging since I was 11 and I think it's a GREAT medium for pouring out your thoughts. I so agree with you as well. My face-to-face talks with others consist of a lot of um's and like's (but I AM from SoCal that's just like normal speech to us :b ).
so no worries...but honestly you probably should've smiled or something at least. :b don't worry I used to be SUPER awkward. and I still kind of am. simple questions like "How are you doing?" result in my super awkward replies like "ok I guess" or "good...*silence*" LOL! I think college really made me grow. just getting to know way more people made me less awkward :) but yeah anyway no worries, we bloggers understand where you're coming from!
Ha, too funny. I was just recently at the dentist myself and it always occurs to me, as I'm looking at the cute kitty posters on the ceiling, what do they expect you to say when they ask how your life has been for the past six months? I'm with you on this one, I'm glad I'm not in Brad Pitt's shoes when he gets his teeth cleaned.
That's hilarious about the cashier. I wonder if she's in the above comments?
Love the outfits here, as usual!
Both Zara dresses are just perfect!! I love the tights that your paired them with :)
you are adorable!
gorgeus tights! <3
Oh dear! I would probably react exactly the same if somebody ever recognised me!
I love your field shots so much!
Very cute tights! That was funny with the cashier and I'm sure she understands! I'm also awkward with strangers but I consider myself very friendly so I always force myself to start talking even when I'm uncomfortable! xxoxoxoxo
hey ! There's a skull clutch giveaway on my blog, thought you migh tlike it ;)
www.slanellestyle.blogspot.com
Love the blue nail colour!!
I think quite a few bloggers blog and put a great deal of energy into their clothing because they have difficulty expressing themselves through conversation as well as others. Alot of people seem to think an introverts are shrinking violets that shy away from being seen; the don't think that they might use clothes to 'talk' for them.
Don't fret about it, think of yourself like this: You're a fabulous piece of artwork, to be admired, but not spoken to :) Well, you can speak to a painting I suppose, but the conversation I imagine would be somewhat one sided...
I think I really would be the same if I ever got recognised for anything. I just stand there not having a clue what to say. I'm beyond shy, but somehow I'm not when I'm blogging. :)
Gorgeous outfits, I love the first dress! You always take such cute photos, does someone else take them for you?

Great photography.
AV xo
aww how sweet! i wouldn't really know what to say either! haha
i love the first dress, it's gorgeous!
Hello! I love your blog...which is why I have given you the Lemonade Stand Award :).
Please see my blog to accept it: www.blog-me-famous.blogspot.com
but it would be nice that you have readers recognizing you and acknowledge you when meeting you in person, i would be thrilled too to meet a fellow bloggers that i'd never meet in my life. its like seeing a celebrity. and i love all your outfits too.
I'm very, very introverted, too. The one time that I was recognized was while I was taking outfit pictures once, which was just incredibly awkward. I definitely prefer anonymity.
I adore the first set of pictures. The sky is really gorgeous and I love those tights. The first picture in the 2nd set is fun, too :)
Haha, funny story in the fabric store... you're famous!!!
I get shy easily in person as well, so I can imagine myself reacting in a similar manner as well.
I've often thought the same thing about being glad not to be famous - especially when running to grab a burger in a sweatshirt and ponytail. great blog!
Haha I react the same way to being recognized--it just takes you completely off-guard, doesn't it? At the Vancouver Fashion Week opening gala, I handed my coat check ticket to a girl to reclaim my coat, and she just said suddenly, "Are you Solo Lisa?" I said yes after the initial shell shock wore off, then I tortured myself trying to remember if I'd remembered to thank her for getting my coat--what if she thought I was unbearably rude and anti-social? Ah well.
Ooo, you have the studded ballet flats? I LOVE those, but I've been afraid to buy 'em. From the description, it doesn't seem like they have the sort of soles meant for walking around outside of a dance studio or stage. Have you had any problems with them?
That dress is so Indian!
I would know, considering I just bought one back here in India itself.
Are those lace tights? Marry me, Blair Waldorf.
you look so cute in your outfits. life is never what we expect and has a way of throwing us curve balls. : ) still i am happy you have fans... : )
Wow, love your story with the post. And great pics!
XOXOXO

Love the outfits! I have not yet met someone in real life who reads my blog (that I didn't already know outside of the blog world). I still wonder how I'll react if and when that happens.
love the first outfit, especially those tights. you always have the nicest tights. you're lucky you can dress like this during the summer. it's way to warm to do that here in Toronto.
haha I agree, that is ironic.
i'm sure you were much nicer than you gave yourself credit for :) ps i love your nail polish!
I love that first dress especially. It's very Anna Sui-esque.
Love that you got recognised :D Even if you didn't!
Oh don't worry about being an introvert! I am too, but I try to extroverted and wind up talking too much and saying something really dumb
What lovely photos! So beautiful being out in the nature:)
Thank you so much for commenting my blog, you know I love your photos and really value you oppinion!
Thanks again!
I love that first dress especially with those hot nylons.
haha, that's quite amusingly awkward ;) And I love that first dress, as well as all your rings.
these photos are all stunning. i love your stockings and blue nail polish.
.. thank you for your sweet comments on my tees on Bon Bon Rose. lovely blog.
x

Haha aw, that must have been so weird!
I love that nail polish so much, and those tights of course. I would have already torn them by now!

i have a ring that looks a lot like yours :)
Your Zara dress is so so so so pretty! I fell in love with it! jajaja yeah I can relate to you on the introvert. Written words give you more power to think and organize and for me they're more important than oral. BTW your photos are amazing!! :)
Sincerely Louie, Ciao!
LOVE the first dress, and the Betsey Johnson tights are absolutely adorable!
I'm somewhat as an introvert as well (though not as "extreme" as you describe yourself) - I tend to hibernate in my room and, well, blog.
I love ur dress with the fishnet tights :D
You're outfit is wonderful, but the story is absolutely hilarious. And yes, very ironic indeed. And I can totally relate to being introvert.
The nailpolish is awesome.
Looove the heart tights! Way way too adorable. :)
you always wear the cutest things!!
sometimes i think you're right... i straightened my hair the other day and i hated it! i didn't feel like myself!
i'm looking forward to a new post from you!
http://www.rocknrollgypsy.com
i like the zara dress..
the black and grey stripping!!!
very nice
i'm absolutely in love with every single aspect of that first outfit, from the dress to the tights to the shoes. :)
I love that Zara dress with those tights! You look absolutely fantastic! I bet it was quite an experience to get recognized... I totally sympathize with the whole "I'm better at collecting my thoughts in writing than in person" thing, too!
Haha I feel the same. When people say "You're bored and crafty," (That's my personal blog. boredandcrafty {dot} com)I just smile like an idiot. It's so weird.
Haha, that does sound hilariously awkward but don't worry! I bet she read this too and now understands your weirdness :~)
That sounds like such a funny encounter. "Oh... do you have a blog?"
That's excellent. Awkward, perhaps. But you're a doll!
Absolutely love your first dress, and the first shot of the second outfit is so wonderful. Oh my, meeting somebody in real life who actually reads my blog would terrify me. I think about two people I know in real life know about my blog, and it is never mentioned. I think I would probably freeze up too.
what a funny little story! Made me smile.
Your outfits inspire me to dress up more. My excuse is that I live in Washington, but I guess I can't use that anymore! Lol.
Oh no!! See I would think blogging might make a person a bit more extroverted. As readership and confidence grows. Now the cashier is reading what you wrote here and feels better about the situation I am sure. :-)
Oh, what a crazy story! I can imagine it would be startling to suddenly run into someone you don't know who has seen so much of you online. I can't imagine... though I do find myself surprised when someone I know mentions something they saw on my blog.
I love that striped Zara dress!!
Unfortunately my blog is no longer anonymous, so many of my friends or "people I know" read it and that actually makes me uncomfortable. Like it's OK for people I "don't know" to know somethings about me but it's weird when the people that you do know are like, "Yah, I already knew that, I read it on your blog" or they ask me questions and I'm like "I don't remember talking to you about that..."
Never been recognized though - not really a lot of Vancouver blogger or blog readers. And I don't have many readers either :P
hey what kind of nail polish do you use? i Love the colors you have!
