When A Dame Gets Killed, She Doesn't Worry About Her Looks

Lately, I have been haunted by fleeting scenes from the movie Laura. Ironically, the story of Laura is about a detective who becomes obsessed with the portrait of a woman whose murder he is investigating. This beautiful film is a classic example of film noir.
"I shall never forget the weekend Laura died. A silver sun burned through the sky like a huge magnifying glass. It was the hottest Sunday in my recollection. I felt as if I were the only human being left in New York... I had just begun Laura's story when another of those detectives came to see me. I had him wait."

Loved this movie!
Love Film Noir.
It's sad we don't have many contemporary directors who work like this anymore, the only recent movie I can think of which played with the aesthetics of the film noir is "The Black Dhalia". If you know any other, I want to know about it! (I have probably watched all the old ones, my university library has a huge collection...)

Sigh, why are their no films like this anymore? It's as if we need enormous explosions, sex kitten leading women, and bright flashy colors to make us want to spend ten dollars on a movie. Alas.

ooh I've never heard of this one! I love love old movies. I used to work at a library and checked them out for free all the time. Have you seen Rebecca? Similar premise, excellent film. Lawrence Olivier is in it. Also he's in Wuthering Heights, great book, moody film too. The premise reminds me of A Picture of Dorian Grey--have you read it?
