I'm actually doing a post tomorrow about maxis...there is this pre-conceived notion that they don't suit short people, and as a short person myself I can tell you they do!
I have a whole whack load of maxi dresses now and everytime I wear them I get compliments and people wonder if I got taller or lost weight! Maxi's all around!
I would def go the "mini" route too, but alas my ass would flash everyone and I just don't have the legs for it! So, I make do with what I got!
i'd say the same as lauren!: kneelength, or a few inches above, would be my preference. though i really would like to try out the maxithing, and i think i found a dress i'd like.
Mini mini! It's entirely a personal preference but maxis make me look rather stumpy and shorter but they can look wonderful on the right people. I personally love cutting dresses shorter.
I'm a long dresses lover but a short one is also a good choice. But I guess that if I wasn't tall I wouldn't feel that comfortable with long dresses. *
alas when i go mini, i don't look adorable like these girls, and instead look like a slut. And generally maxi dresses make me look really short and i don't really want to be swathed in ankle length jersey. though i do have this amazing maxi chiffon skirt... -indigo
I adore them both! I guess it depends a lot on the occasion. If it's something more casual and fun, I'd go mini. If something formal is coming up, I'd go maxi/long dress.
loooove these photos. you know, i see the maxi sold everywhere these days and now maybe i don't live in the most fashion conscious city, but i swear i've never seen someone wearing one out and about!
but i'm sure you could pull it off ;) i'd be interested to see one on a "real" person!
I like both. But I actually have never tried on a maxi dress. I saw two really nice ones on the forever 21 website and I am hoping that the store will still carry them once I arrive in the US...and yea, I am also hoping that it won't look like I am wearing a potato sack *keeps fingers crossed*
usually, for me, minis, although i do have a maxi dress i LOVE. despite being 5'4" it makes me look tall and amazing and i love that. i don't like maxi skirts, though. but i love a short cute dress!
YOU are SO beautiful I really really want to be just like you. I love your clothes and your blog. I'm sorry i'm a bit obsessed with how skinny you are I want to look like you so much
fun reading the comment on this one, and i do knee length actually since its the most flattering on me :) having fun looking at your blog im new but you'll be seeing my comments from now on! how had i not come here before is beyond me!!
Mini for me. Gotta show some leg for Jesus you know. Plus minis come in a much wider variety of fabric types and patterns, and you can go a lot crazier when styling them.
Oooo, love them all. And nice bright pastel coours, make me happy! Nice reading list, just started Fareinheit 451, never been a fan of sci-fi but it's quite good. You should give it a shot! XOXOXO Libby http://fashionconfectionairy.weebly.com
Both I think....and then vary. Depends on the situation...I find minis and maxis suitable for all kinds of events though, so don't know how much help the first sentence was :)
I wear minis alot more than maxis but at the same time nothing beats a gorgeous maxi dress.
ive heard that maxi dresses actually can be incredibly flattering to shorter girls. my older sister is maybe 4'11 and she looks incredible in a long flowy summer dress. so you should do it!
Mini, every time! Except for the one or two times when I will wear a long dress... if it isn't just so, it can end up looking really dumpy! Sad that when I think of a long dress, I think of Kirstie Alley.
I always feel like a big goofball in a maxi dress because I'm so short-- minis at least give the illusion that I have legs! The first mini, especially, is very simple and cute.

I just love these dresses !! They look great !!!
Love both!
I vote maxi! you, know if I have to choose...
I go with mini... ! :)
GAH! I love that site. I could look at the archives all day. Seriously.
Oh, and mini all the way. I am short. Can't help it.
I vote maxi, hands down. There is something so quintessentially summery about a gorgeously flowy maxi dress.
I prefer the exact middle.
i'd say the same as lauren!: kneelength, or a few inches above, would be my preference. though i really would like to try out the maxithing, and i think i found a dress i'd like.
hmm...I like both. is that a cop-out? ;)
minis look better on me though.
2nd dress looks so adorable!
XoXo
I mini. No maxi for me.
Always adore a mini, but lately I've been searching for the perfect maxi. I'd like a very soft one for summer. It feels so relaxing to wear:)
Both !
I'm more of a mini girl - I fear the maxi, because I'm tall and I feel like it'd just be a moving column of fabric coming towards you... scary.
That said, the maxi does provide more coverage, thus less skin to put suncream on!
Mini mini! It's entirely a personal preference but maxis make me look rather stumpy and shorter but they can look wonderful on the right people. I personally love cutting dresses shorter.
I really like mini's better. Maxi's don't look good on a lot of people (I think) and they always end up looking formal.
I'll be wearing an Ossie Clark maxi tonight!
Maxis make me feel like I'm drowning, but I really like them on other people. Especially that little pink number in the third picture!
I say do both!
both!
i feel people are scared of longer skirts, i don't know why!
There's so much more possibilities with the addition fabric.
i prefer minis or mid length because maxis make me look even shorter than i already am!
love these. but i prefer mini =)
Important issue indeed. I do mini now, but I feel this summer you have to own at least one maxi piece.
Great outfits in the pictures! :)
Definitely MAXI!
More unique, comfortable, and interesting.
Honestly, I am much more intrigued by a person wearing a maxi than a mini.
I pick mini! That's just cause I'm short, though.
i prefer minis, they're easier to wear and more fitting for summer
Maxi maxi maxi.

methinks mini looks best on me
im only 5'3 after all

I think it depends on who you are. I'm slow to accept the maxi for myself, I think if worn wrong they can come off frumpy.
I am a dress whore, if you may.
I just find it so beautiful, elegant and so simple to wear.
But at the moment I am rockin and styling with MAXIs
Minis!!! I just am not a fan of maxis... even the name.. !
I'm a long dresses lover but a short one is also a good choice. But I guess that if I wasn't tall I wouldn't feel that comfortable with long dresses. *
Ooh! I love both! I don't quite have the legs for mini's though...
xx
PS. I agree with Wanderlusting that maxi's aren't just for tall people, I'm a shortie too, and own/wear many of them! :)
I love both - nothing looks more cute than a mini dress - but there is just something so lovely about being covered in down to the floor in fabric
These are all so pretty. It's so hard to choose. The mini seems so mod 60s to me, but the maxi has a bohemian touch to it.
Mini mini! for days when you feel awesome, or want to feel confident.
Bu a maxi for days when you want an easier piece to wear.
Maxi, deffo the beautiful mazi dresses. They are beautifully feminine

Do both!

I'm really not a fan of max dresses, even on tall people... I've always been a mini person!
I adore them both! I guess it depends a lot on the occasion. If it's something more casual and fun, I'd go mini. If something formal is coming up, I'd go maxi/long dress.
Sweet post!

I always go for mini--it just seems like a maxi dress would get in the way. I love the bottom right outfit.
Can I pick option c and go with midi? :)
Maxi, definitely. The difference in body language alone spells confidence.
loooove these photos. you know, i see the maxi sold everywhere these days and now maybe i don't live in the most fashion conscious city, but i swear i've never seen someone wearing one out and about!

Those are very pretty maxi's.. I normally am not so sure about them in the big tropical or optic prints, but I love how frothy those are.
Isn't that just the ultimate question :0) lol. so much depends on body type when it comes to the max vs. mini issue.
Those outfits in the pics are so pretty!
I choose both, minis and maxis! Each one has its own charm...
I just 'discovered' your blog and love it!
Both, both. You'd look amazing either way. :)
until i get over my fear of getting stuck at the escalator, it'll be mini for me... which also means getting to wear leggings! :D
oh i can't choose.
i would prefer mini though i got big legs. but im too short for maxi.
I'm digging both atm. But I'm pretty sure mini will win every time. x
Too mini for me!! Love your blog!!
I have alwys wanted to wear maxi but I can never find one at the correct length!!
Aw, amazing!
I like both.
But I actually have never tried on a maxi dress. I saw two really nice ones on the forever 21 website and I am hoping that the store will still carry them once I arrive in the US...and yea, I am also hoping that it won't look like I am wearing a potato sack *keeps fingers crossed*

I don't own any maxi dresses (except for a prom dress) but I love them! Especially in the summer when they feel so comfy!

I love both :).

I'd go for the maxi, actually. though both look great!
A little of both! :)

I love the ethereal feeling of these maxi dresses. Lovely selection of shots.
