Oh My, DIY

There's nothing quite like sitting on the floor of your dorm room at 1:00am watching Spartacus and cutting up an old tee shirt to make a ruffle trim on your AAU-back dress...or so I hear.
Outfit details: dress- AA(customized by me), skirt- AA, tights- Walmart, shoes- Urban Outfitters, sunglasses- Urban Outfitters, jacket- Urban Outfitters

The single most worn item in my wardrobe has to be this Urban Outfitters tan jacket. I've had it for more than three years and bought it on sale for $12, after coveting it for months! It has been to a lot of places with me and never disappoints.

That collar is pure genius! I love the outfit. I can't get over the collar!

That ruffle collar is amazing!! You did a great job with a wonderful idea! I love doing crafty projects while watching a movie - it's so relaxing and makes both the project and movie more enjoyable.

I love that you remix so many pieces and seeing you frequently don a piece in different ways has inspired me to also think of new ways to wear my old things. I know you've said that you never wear the same outfit twice and I'm trying to adhere to this concept as well!

Your DIY ruffle is adorable! Great color combo, too :)

i had a tan jacket once, but i donated it to goodwill under a "ahh i have too much stuffffff" anti consumer frenzy, lol. man i wish i could get it back.

Most perfect DIY ever! I love the kind of "peasant" feel of the ruffle with the braid. Plus the color combination is amazing. You're so creative.

the collar looks AMAZING! and the dress shows off your tattoos perfectly!

was the collar already ruffled, or did you put in some kind of elastic to make it that way?

Yuka said...

WOW I LOVE IT! came out soo good!

Anonymous said...

I really like the trim, are you planning to put it on the back too? Also, how do you wear a bra with that dress?? I want one, but am not very enamoured with the idea of going braless in public!

Anonymous said...

You do not know how much this makes me want to go out and buy something mustard. Even though it looks disgusting on my skin...

Hannah said...

That's such a good idea! And I love your tattoos.

Ah, I love the jacket showcase. Everything you've teamed it with is great but I particularly liked it with that green bag and the checked tights, when you're standing against the wall. That is such a great look.

yasemin said...

your tattoos, your hair and the ruffled dress looks like the perfect mix.^^

Winnie said...

Love the ruffle you added to your top! It's the topshop one from the goodie bag right? That's such a perfect use for it :)

I've never been super creative, but this is a really nice way to jazz up an old top and get rid of another old one that's taking up space!
Seeing other bloggers with great DIY pieces has definitely inspired me.

i love DIYs. what you made is great, so cute!

Nadia said...

You should ONLY wear that jacket. It's one of the 5 things you own that I wouldn't throw out given the chance. For $12, you should have bought 10, so you never run out.

m/y said...

you do the best DIYs :) i love your picturesssss!!

Trendology said...

1. The DIY is great.
2. I recently got a tattoo on my back and cannot wait to wear scoop back shirts all summer.
3. I love finding that clutch item that you've been pining for at an unbelievable sale price. I feel that way about my Minnetonka loafers/moccasins from UO - scored them for $10 and I've been wearing them out ever since.

Allyson said...

I love that dress combined with shoulder-blade tattoos. They're made for each other.

The collar looks beautiful too!

One of the best DIY I've ever seen!!!!! Very beautiful!

The Clothes Horse said...

@anonymous, I don't think I'm adding the ruffle to the back, it would probably be too much for me.
I generally wear a pretty bra and let it show, or a bandeau bra that doesn't give too much support but is easier to hide.

Wow! The ruffle trim is just too cute :-D Xxxc

the ruffle on that dress is so unbelievebly cool, I love the little graphic quality peeking through. And it's no wonder you wear that jacket so often, it's wondersous. That picture with the brick wall is my favorite, you look straight out of some english boarding school movie.

This is such a wonderful customisation! The print of your tee adds that touch of non-tactile texture to the ruffles. I am also in love with the way you did your hair <33

nice DIY. i tried making ruffles like that one time to line the bottom of a skirt, but it was impossible. Either the folds kept slipping or the fabric got too thick to sew... so yes, amazing how even u got it.
