One of the greatest photographers of our time is
Jerry Uelsmann. He creates his images in a dark room from multiple negatives (note: he does
not use computer manipulation). His photographs are allegorical and surrealist--like dream states that some magician managed to capture for us to witness.

Those pictures are really amazing. The first one with the tree and the window is my favourite, by far.
Wow! They really look surreal... quite fitting: My word verification is "epical" :)
How amazing! Nice to see someone physically doing the work to alter photos instead of just using a computer.
I just gave your blog a friendly little award! :)
I am besieged that this isn't photoshop. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos! Amazing!
XoXo
Wow these are stunning. They sort of look like stills from a horror movie too.
Having spent so many years in a dark room myself, I always kind of appreciate it a bit more when a photographer can do it in a darkroom as opposed to Photoshop. His work is absolutely stunning, and I love to see that people still like to "do it the old fashioned way."
Thank you for sharing.
Love this!!!
Gorgeous, stunning...anything moody and surrealist really speak to me. That last one is haunting!
I'm surprised he doesn't use photo editing software because these pictures are amazingly macabre. I wonder how he managed to snap the last one.
Wow, amazing. I always admire it when people have such a gift for certain things :)
Wow! I really admire him for creating such surreal images out of negatives and not digitally altered like others nowadays.
-Stares in amazement- I really don't think I have any proper adjective to describe these pictures. They're just... wow.
Wow, if someone told me that they could do this without photoshop, I wouldn't believe them! It's magical! Great skillz, as graffiti writers say ;p
It's like a black and white dream...thanks for sharing!
My god, these are amazing! My favorite is the one of the tree (the first photo). If I lived in a fantasy world and had to live in a tree, I think I would like it to be this one. The stripped branches give off an eerie effect and it looks so surreal - it reminds me of the movie, Coraline.
Wow...I can't believe he doesn't use computers. These are truly epic x
wow, these are brilliant! i especially love the first one.
He does this all in the manual developing process?! That's pretty amazing and a skill which may be left more and more to the wayside with Photoshop etc.
his photos are wonderful! thanks for the introduction!
Are you familiar with the ParkeHarrisons? They piece together their negatives in the darkroom as well.
Love those photos! Went to google him and it's so hard to imagine him developing the pictures without any help or whatsoever! They're really magic!
Love your outfits from the prev post!
I love that quote! "...my main agenda is to amaze myself". What an incredible way to live! And such incredible photographs!

Those pictures are simply amazing, especially the first.
How absolutely incredible! LOVE these, especially the first & last picture! :)
xx
these are incredible! it's so refreshing to find a photographer that still relies on film and darkrooms rather than desktops and photoshop
so happy you got your present! enjoy it xox
Wow,
Those pictures are amazing!
His skill is definitely enviable. It's amazing the effects that you can get with traditional photo developing.
beautiful and haunting. i can't begin to imagine the time and effort that must be put into each one...
The photos are amazing. They make me think of a fantasy movie I'd really love to watch. LOL.
i love him simply because he made these surrealist photos without fancy photoshop, true talent :)
Wow, I had no idea he did these in the darkroom. I'm really impressed. They're stunning.
This is truly breathtaking work. Snaps to Uelsmann.

The first photo reminds of Pan's Labyrinth. And its crazy that your school is closing due to heat! At least you can enjoy the warm weather now, hehe.

All I can say is wow!

whoa... im fascinated. these are so good. and so interesting.
I learned about this guy when I took darkroom photography. Really really incredible.
no computer? WOW!!
I love the use of negative and positive space, and the stark contrast of the black and white images against each other.
Surrealist images of trees remind me of fantasy books by Terry Brooks or Tolkien, Pan's Labyrinth, and the film The Fountain... (And a little bit of the Doom Tree series of Sailor Moon--but I'm a nerd).
Beautiful! They are really dream-like but it almost gives me a creepy feeling!
That first image is so unbelievably breathtaking! I remember splicing negatives together in the darkroom at school...they looked awful lol.
thank you so much for the introduction!
I really like the first one :-)
Wow these are truly amazing! x Sushi
I accidentally stumbled upon your page while looking for an adrogynous hairstyle idea...I was instantly intrigued and distracted ((which is odd because I am quite stoic and typically uninterested))...you are crazy talented, I envy your passion...
