Blau, Azul, Bleu, Biru, Mavi

I have a thing for the color blue--it sort of goes beyond just being my favorite color and has become a minor obsession. Recently I got my mitts on some vibrant blue nail polish, which means I now have blue eyes, blue skin (via my tattoo), and blue nails (all that is left is blue hair!). In addition, I am reading a book on the history of blue which investigates the origins and various symbolic meaning the color has held in various cultures. Fascinatingly, the color wasn't present in ancient artwork or manuscripts and some experts used to hypothesize that ancient peoples actually couldn't see the color...

ahh blue. there is something so appealing about it. its also my favourite colour! i love the colour of the sky after the sun just goes down and it fades from an electric bright blue to almost black. the colours are just so beautiful.and that book sounds like itd be a goodie
ive been seeing a lot of pops of blue around lately, there is an amazing linen moto like jacket at zara right now thats pretty much the colour of your nail polish..oh man i always right too much...anyway, wonderful pictures as always :)

that shade of blue is so pretty and goes very well with your nautical striped dress! very good really!
have a nice weekend. xx

That book on the color blue sounds fascinating! Totally something I'd want to read.

I've been thinking about dying my hair a blue-black. Like so black, it's blue? It'll only be a subtle difference since my hair's already black...I'm still debating it though.

I looooovvvee the dress you're wearing. Red and white stripes are the best.

that is so interesting (the history bit)! Cobalt blue is my all time favorite color to look at...

I love it when old pieces of art have splashes of this color - much like the book you are reading which I am going to have to buy :)

or in nature like this amazing blue tarantula!

What an interesting theory. I wonder what ancient peoples thought of the sky and the sea if they couldn't see blue? The world would appear so depressing.

what a cute dress! blue is my fav colour, your nails are so cool!

I just recently decided that blue is my favorite color. It's the only color I can think of that doesn't have any offensive shades. Powder blue, aqua blue, royal blue... they're all nice!

Biru said...

Biru is blue? In what language???? :O I only knew it meant beer in japanese... or whatever.

God, I hate most shades of blue.

Rhiannon said...

So cute!! And that nail polish! I usually paint my nails dull, boring colors but this makes me want to head to Sephora.

♥ Chloe said...

Aww, look at you! You're smiling. You have a very cute smile. :D

I love a strong blue, too. Cobalt blue, yum.

Emily said...

Look at that cute dress! :)
The book sounds like a great read. That theory is quite an interesting one. Is there any indication of further evidence to support this speculation? Or was the lack of use & mention the basis for the hypothesis? I think you've convinced me to add this book to my "must read list" :)

i love the shade of that blue nail polish!

I think that's so cool how a single colour can have a lot of history behind it. I wonder if other colours have equally interesting stories to tell...

I wonder why ancients couldn't see blue?! I have minor obsessions with patterns more than colour. I spent a entire workday once investigating the history of stripes. I feel your obsession.

I love the nailpolish - it's an amazing shade of blue.

The book seems to be very interesting!

OK, blue hair please, now!

Have you ever heard that if one wants to cut down on their caloric intake, they should eat off of blue plates and bowls? Supposedly the human subconscious doesn't find blue to be a very appetizing color.

I love blue too! I have blue nail polish the exact shade of yours! I even had a perfect match for a wallet, until I lost it... I also had bluish/tealish hair at one point. And unfortunately I was not blessed with blue eyes like yourself, but I do have blue contacts that I wear once in awhile..

Ps. That's fascinating that they might not have seen that color in the past, perhaps there are colors that we ourselves can't see? Time reveals all!

I LOVE your nail color!! the red striped dress is awesome too =)

Blue is my favorite color to. I've tried to widen the color range in my wardrobe and though I have incorporated some other colors, I never seem to like any outfit as much unless there is blue. I am really going to look into that book. =D I need to start reading some more non-fiction. (Just like my wardrobe, I need to incorporated some new things into my reading.)

If the ancient people didn't see blue, I would think they would still use it accidently, thinking it was gray.

That dress is lovely, and the blue nails are wonderful :) Ahh blue, blue, blue, I have a lapis lazuli pendant I bought on holiday, such a deep colour, it's fantastic. All I used to hear about from the physical history lecturers was lapis lazuli and it's magical paint colour lol.

Oh you should've done a close-up of your eyes against the blue background! I'm sure they would've popped.
I was watching slumdog millionaire earlier and noticed how they dressed Latika in bright yellow during important scenes (and there was yellow in the choreography they did at the end). I was wondering if there was a special significance of the color in India.

you must be the human equivalent to a bower bird. it's a native australian bird that bird a bower, or a little shrine to attract a mate, but it's remarkable because it decorates it with blue objects it finds. the more blue, the more chance of finding a mate. you see them proudly sitting under the bower surrounded by blue bottle tops, clothes pegs, scraps of chocolate bor wrappers, anything the little theives can find!

Blue is one of my favourite colors, too! The speculation about ancient people not being able to see blue is interesting. I can't imagine how the world would look without blue. What's with the sky? It would look strange in an other color...

emily said...

my friends always tease me because i have 4 bottles of blue nail polish. i kid you not.

Lydia said...

That book sounds really interesting, must check out. Blue has always been my fave too, and I bought blue nail polish yesterday! Yours is a very lovely shade. Every time you wear that dress it makes me happy, it's so adorable.

WOW! That's really interesting, you're even reading a book on the color! It's always been clearly my favourite too. Blue ia all over in my life. There's also a Paul Auster's novel where he speaks about the "blue team" to define just nice and honest people.
