Partners In Crime

My latest street fashion site addiction has become Drop Snap based in Tokyo Japan. The couple and group pics attest that stylish people do indeed travel in packs--not sure if it's a "safety in numbers" mentality or "great minds think alike." All I know is, I'm feeling as though I need my own partner in crime...
One of the things I like about the pics snapped in Tokyo (as opposed to street fashion sites based in other countries) is that there isn't one overwhelming style. Gothic, modern, retro, whimsical, and homemade couture, all have their place on the streets. This particular site doesn't seem to show favoritism towards any one of these style tribes, but freely snaps them all.

I love the first and last picture, they are great. Thank you for posting.

I love when people have an unbiased decision towards fashion. Because something you find fashionable I might not. And Japanese girls always seem to have remarkable style.

I LOVE the girl on the right in the 1st photo! I've been meaning to ask you this for a while but keep on forgetting: how did you get your cool background/header? I absolutely suck at html/what have you.

Thanks so much for posting this! I'm always looking for new street style sites. I love the girls' styles in the last photo.

what a simple site, pure attitude, real style. adding to favourites, thx!

(are all japanese people so stylish?? or is it just the stylish that get snapped?)

Those last two girls remind me of your twin images of late. :)

I LOVE Japan and long to go back. In London I can often tell if someone is native British by their style; we are not as unique as we would like to think. I love the complete and utter variation in Japan. It seems like a place where you can truly indulge in your fashion fantasies

It's my new obsession too! I love the Japanese. I just sold something from my etsy store to someone in Japan, it was very exciting for me.

Oh my gosh, japanese fashion is my favorite of ALL time. I always look for Japanese street style for my own; the girls always look SO cute and SO put together. I don't think sweat pants even really EXIST in Japan.

I love how there's this mix of fearlessness and ridiculousness when it comes to Japanese style. I think I like that attitude more than the actual styles. I'd love to visit Japan some day.

Hot Bot said...

Oh yeah, DropSnap is unreal! I wish I had as much courage to dress like some of its subjects. Japan is high on top of the list of places I want to visit.

I also like style-arena and merry daily by tokyo bopper. Can't get enough of tokyo street style.

There is definitely safety in numbers, especially where I live; if you deviate from jeans, tennis shoes and mundane garbage you will be accosted by strangers about your appearance. I'm talking a tiny deviation like wearing tailored wool shorts with nice boots and tights. The joys of the midwest.

No idea if this actually applies to the people featured on dropsnap, but I've read about a book about fashion and trends in Asian countries and it said that in Japan they tend to be conformists. And while we can't necessarily see it because we aren't there and there are so many styles, as you said, people do tend to dress to try and fit in with their peers or a certain group. Sorry if that was confusing and/or TMI! :)

I love these! The two girls on the bottom left are by far my favorite. If I went to Tokyo, I think that's how I'd like to dress. I used to have a partner in crime. My new one lives too far away. Sigh.

My best friend frequently travels to Tokyo and she says the style there is out of this world. They just lack the inhibitions that we seem to have here; because of strict social norms clothing becomes the ultimate form of free expression. Thanks for this link! xx

wow. ive never heard of Drop Snap! these are really good. i especially love that second picture. those two girls are so kawaii?

I love the hats and the fruit um... I'm not sure what you'd call it, but they're adorable. The girls look like little woodland creatures!

Have you seen the Tokyo alternative fashion site La Carmina? AMAZING AMAZING stuff! www.lacarmina.com/blog is the URL.

I love these shots, I adore the fact it is more a melting pot of fashions and styles. Personal tastes and styles are much more evident in these, and I think that speaks the most for character.

If I lived in America I'd sign up to be your partner in crime in a minute! You could teach me how to actually successful vintage/2nd hand shop... and I'd match your red hair perfectly ;) x

first pic is so great, great luxurious style and casual at the same time!!!

It would be awesome to have a partner in crime. Even better if they have a totally different style and aesthetic. So many groups of friends all match each other and it gets really boring.

Those pics are absolutely perfect and cute.. *.* I wanna go to Tokio!!

Japanese street fashion is such a good inspiration!

Wanderlusting said...

I've heard the Japanese are the only ones who have a forward pop culture, meaning the constantly create it. The style is unique and varied because they truly move forward. The rest of the world just recycles the same looks from days gone by...they create new ones.

Glad you showcased this! Also glad to see you are a neighbour of sorts now (I'm up in Vancouver, BC). A lot colder than Greece though :(

Rachie-Pie said...

i think that is the best way to capture 'street style'...if ur gonna take it to the streets then the photographer should b more open minded about styles and not focus on 1 type of group!

Thanks for the tip! Really cool street style, love it.

hogan said...

seriously... i am so addicted to DROPSNAP. i would totes be your partner in crime if you'd have me! although with there being two of you all the time now there's a good chance they'll snap you anyways ;)
