On The Road Again

I'm currently heading across the country to my humble college in Pennsylvania. For some traveling inspiration I could think of no one better than Agathe of Style Bytes. Sadly, she doesn't post there anymore, but we can all take a jaunt through the archives and remember the good old days...
I also definitely do not look like a Ports advertisement while I travel. The look of vintage suitcases is very nice, but I imagine they would tire my arms...
Facehunter has snapped a number of stylish ladies with suitcases or carpetbags over the years. They could be choosing these as a fun option for handbags, but I rather like the idea that they were captured while stylishly running away from home...

First to comment. cool. Good luck with school. I would love to have a colorful bright travel bag but I am too practical when it comes to traveling.

bon voyage on your trip back to school. I 'm trying to master the delicate art of dressing stylishly while comfortable during trips.

I was just going to ask you when/if you were going back to the east coast. I hope your travels are swell!

Hello, it must be the first time I leave a comment, but the pics and situation remind me too much of Hitchcock's Marnie... Suits, bags, stations. There was also a great Vuitton 'Marnie' advertisment, in the same spirit.
Sorry if my English was dysfunctional!

I love the pictures - especially the glamourous one of the woman on the platform. So classy.

I love the Ports picture. I want to wait around in a beautiful deserted train station. Agathe is sorely missed.

Take care on your travels! And there is nothing more glamorous than vintage suitcase. If only they could withstand my shoddy treatment of my luggages.

The series of Ports ads which this photo belongs in is just amazing!

what i want is a huge snakeskin suitcase from topshop. pure tacky heaven rolled into one bag.

Ah, yes, I have an amazing vintage leather briefcase I found for only $1 at a church sale, but, alas, it is extremely heavy.

I love old-fashioned suitcases! Most modern luggage is SO ugly.

totaly agree with you..those cases are amazing but too much to handle when traveling. =)

Such gorgeous pictures. One of my guy friends watched The Darjeeling Limited and waxed poetic over how good old-fashioned luggage used to look.

As I love trains and stations I have all these pics (and a lot more!) saved in my inspiration folder, the ones by Agathe on top!
Unfortunately I definitely don't look so stylish while I travel too and I HATE to carry luggages...

Andrea said...

Vintage suitcases are definitely more aesthetically pleasing, but I'm a wimp. I go with the wheeled bags.

Fannah said...

I love suitcases too but I prefer them when they're smaller.. though I love all of these a lot, especially the one from Style Bytes! I read her archives and I'm sad about the fact she's been absent for so long already.

Everyone looks so perfect for some glamorous journey. Unfortunately I have succumbed to the sad reality that car trips are cramped and airplane rides are filled with airsickness and always forgetting to order the vegetarian entree. Perhaps next time I'll dress up like on of these ladies and see if the traveling improves.

I've always wanted one of those vintage looking suitcases but I cary way too many clothes with me when I travel and I'm afraid carrying about 5 of those would be very bad for my back and arms :P

I love the photos of Agathe!

Actually, this weekend, Agathe from Style Bytes was interviewed in a Norwegian magazine. She was talking about why she quitted and so on, and apparently, it took up way too much time... Well, not sure if that was important, but I like the idea of travelling in such a stylish way.
