A Failed Runaway

I was thinking about running away last night. Not exactly planning my great escape, but just how wonderful it would be to shed all assumptions and start a new life. When I was six I actually did run away. The rebellion was instigated by my eldest sister, who felt obligated to bring me along for the ride. In junior high, I had an equally short-lived attempt, but I came to my senses before even the night was through. The truth is, I've never felt I had much to run away from, but in a moment of angst I just visualize how much there is to run too.
Do the desires for a new beginning with no strings attached ever leave you? In a runaway attempt we abandon earthly possessions, our identity and have a fresh start. We get to see the world on our own terms and can begin to choose how people see us. The annoying nickname from childhood is gone as though it never existed and you never have to see anyone who bullied you ever again. But while we leave the bad, we must also abandon the good...still my temptation has yet to die.

Oh, my, these pictures are gorgeous! Lady, are ou still editing them? I know, it was hard to start editing again when I first got my camera. I felt as if I was degrading the Canon or something. Wrong word. OH well.

Love the first picture, and how big your pictures are getting.

What a lovely post. Ruunning away, is sort of magical, unless you run away in the city, but in the country any number of mystical things could happen.

Those pictures are amazing!
I've never run away but I wonder what that would be like. I would be to scared.

how strange, i was talking about running away today with my flatmates, reliving our childish attempts. did you hear about the german children? it was the loveliest story i've heard in a while.

i really enjoy your blog. your outfits and insight are really lovely. i find your writing similar to how my mind works, which is nice in a selfish way, because it means i'm not the only one out there. haha.

but i completely understand the running away thing. many times i have wished i could just go away. i had a minor obsession with the circus last year. the only thing keeping me from leaving at the moment is the knowledge that college and a new beginning are only a few months away for me.

i think you should take a train ride. i always enjoy trains because i imagine i'm a completely different person on a train. i'm always going somewhere interesting and reading something interesting, and trains are perfect for people watching.

gorgeous photos! And running away sounds like a good idea. Though I would never have the guts to go that far, I completely agree that there seems to be so much to run to.

I wish that when you chose to run away you could take a select handful of people. But, I guess that kind of goes against the whole idea of running away and starting fresh if you've got some of the same people around you. Haha...

I love these pictures. The colors and composition are perfect!

I've definitely thought about running away before. It's funny, though. I never think about it when things are bad--only when they get too good. I have this self-defeating thing when my life gets too perfect--I need to mess it up. I could never actually run away, though. I'd miss my books and my clothes, not to mention my family. I also really like to have order and schedules in my life, which wouldn't really be conducive to running away. I guess I would like a fresh start without losing everything.

A lovely post - yes, it is a tempting proposition, indeed, to run away - provided there is something to run to and there in lies the tragedy - quite often, the running away becomes a treadmill instead.

Beautiful photographs, especially the second one; the contrast between the green moss and the cranberry/garnet accent hues of your clothing is gorgeous!

With you on the running away thing. But there's so much to relinquish. I think if I were ever to really, really do it, it could only be for a short time, before I would want to return to my previous life.

Love the second outfit.

amaaazing shoot! Can't get over those zara shoes. Well if u'd run away it would have been the most stylish escape in the history of runaways!

Still, u don't have to run away to do new things or leave people behind. It is harder, but there is more grace in deleting others instead of your own past.

Again, what a shoot.

I thought about it when I was little, but never seriously or with angst. I imagined it being like an adventure and I thought I'd just live in my woods and have a tree fort. I still am in love with that tree. It looks especially beautiful with the plummy purpley red color you're wearing. And the moss colored stepping stones! Love this post.

Love the photos, gorgeous as always. The colors are absolutely stunning. How long ago did you buy those Zara shoes? I Love them ever so much

Gosh, I just love those tassled shoes.
And yeah, I used to try to run away. I would pack my suitcase full of books and stuffed animals and make it to the end of the block.
I often dream now of ridding myself of all technologies and going to live in the woods somewhere, in a little cabin with a wood stove... It is romantic, if not practical. I would miss a shower too much.

I never wanted to run away. I've always preferred the exact opposite, staying in and not facing the world. But it included me hiding in cupboards and giving my parents a good scare, much similar to a run-away.

Those plum tights are my favorite color. Actually, I love the whole outfit so much!

once, when I was little, I packed a bag to run, but never did it lol.
the pictures are amazing and so are the outfits, but my favourite is the first one, I love the colours!

I've never ran away from anywhere physically, but its too easy to get sucked into emotionally running away from a problem or a feeling, and I've made the mistake of doing that a few times.
Beautiful images as usual =]

Your photos are great as always. I love the way you compose them.

I really like the wine colours in the first set of pictures, the tights look so good against the green.

Oh damn these pics are amazing! Really loving the second one... the way your legs are sprawled and the branches reaching up... beautiful! And I have that feeling all the time! It's sounds fun to pack up and go somewhere where no one knows you and you can recreate yourself.

I love both outfits, especially the 1st pair of shoes. When I was younger I thought about running away, I have no idea why though. But I was realistic and knew that an 8-year-old girl could never survive NYC alone at night.

When I was little, I packed up my pink Sanrio Spottie Dottie suitcase and attempted to run away to my grandma's house. Her house was half a block away from ours and I made it 4 houses before my mom said she watched me turn around and come home.

I'm always amazed at the quality and creativity of your photos, and this photoset is no exception. I love how the moss and foliage play off the green and purple in your ensemble.

Aahh, the recent sales at H&M have been terrific! :)

My gosh, these photos are really breathtaking! That is some tree and those moss covered stepping stones look as if they are natural to the surrounding environment! I really like the color of your blouse & tights.

I can remember thinking about running away as a child, but never fully put the plan into motion. Instead I would spend hours by myself outside in one of our pastures playing by a stream. I guess in a sense that was my get away.

Also, I think I just jumped into commenting on your blog without asking if you'd like to exchange links. I love the creativity in your posts -- it has helped to stir up my own creativity which I sadly let settle for way too long. You are a joy to read! :)

Love the first outfit! Matching shirt and tights, and the contrast with the green of the background..
Running away is always tempting, doesn't have to be physical. I find myself running away into my own world quite often! It's an easy compromise when actual running away is seemingly impossible..

again! bravo on the photoshoot.

i tried to run away once. when i was 6 or seven. but i got scared so i just hid at my grandma's closet. When my family started looking for me i got more scared i can't move, i didn't show myself out. I got tired and slept. next thing i know they found me and my mom hugging me.

just hope my future kids don't do the same trick i did. hihi.

I love your fairytale forest pictures. And those shoes!

I want to run away all the time. And be a completely different person. It's true what you say though about running away from the good as well as the bad. Sometimes though you feel as though the mundane day to day is keeping you from what you really want and if you removed yourself... who knows.

I completely understand these feelings. I think it is human nature to long for the other, the unknown. And what is more unknown than the "what ifs" starting anew.

I think these thoughts keep us searching for answers to age old quandaries, which is a good thing to me.
