Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention

My wardrobe has been stripped to a basic level here (studying abroad in Greece). Gone are my numerous shoes, purses, and jackets that have collected through the years. Instead I came to Greece with only the necessities, leading me to wear red peep toes with stockings on occasion. Don't misread these sentences; I'm not complaining. In fact, most days I don't even notice my lack of options in those departments and others. In fact, I'm relishing the creativity that sometimes arises (and at other times the excuse to shop for new things in Greece).
I like to repeat clothes. Pieces that I adore I want to wear again and again immediately and thus try to invent new ways of wearing them. I wore the same jacket, shoes, and bag the past two days with only a few basic changes to differeniate...though really, they're both shirtdresses so it's not that different! :)
Outfit details: jacket- H&M, dress- H&M, tights- some shop in Japan, bag- Pull and Bear, shoes- Urban Outfitters
Outfit details: jacket- H&M, dress- Bershka, scarf- secondhand, shoes- Urban Outfitters, bag- Pull and Bear

I'm with you, I love the creativity that ensues when working with only a few pieces in your luggage/wardrobe (which should encourage me to cull, hm...). I have never noticed that you've repeated items, I just love the outfits as a whole. These shots are gorgeous! Especially the ones where you've used the stairs...Brilliant!

Well this is wonderful. It just proves to you that the biggest wardrobe in the world is no substitute for an unfailing eye for what looks good and true style! Hurrah for looking amazing in necessities.

I should do something like that to my wardrobe. It is full of stuff I don't even remember that there is.

Even with a limited wardrobe, you're always pulling off fab outfits!
I'm frequently wearing pieces of clothing on repeat myself, but it's fun mixing things around! Plus, I get a bit guilty when I shop too much anyway.

i definitely brought way too much clothing with me to college last year. this year i tried to limit myself a bit more, and while i do find myself wishing i had such and such article of clothing, i think it has been more fun and challenging to create looks off of a limited number of pieces. you are looking beautiful my friend!

Love both shirt dresses! And it's so true, when you have less to choose from, you have to be creative. But luckily it opens you to more possibilities and you appreciate what you have more :)

Ah I love repeating clothes too! I don't get why people dont wear just after once! So weird. & I love the color of your shoes :)

I don't wear the same thing(s) two times in a row, but then wear it again the day after and combine it totally differently =) by the way, just wondering if you would want to link me. I already put you in my favorite blogs-list.. it's not necessary and I won't kick you off the list if you don't link me back =p but it would be nice..

I've noticed that too! Being limited leads to more creativity. Sounds like Greece is awesome, totally different! Hope you're enjoying it!

I'm going to have to beg you about packing advice. I am going home for xmas in a month, and can only bring one suitcase(that I will have to share with my puppy!)

also,I may have to steal your haircut the next time im in a salon.

The shirtdresses looks cute, and the green bad/red dress combination is interesting in a very good way ^^

I think I know what you mean; When I was at a jazz festival this summer, I wore one skirt (it was three-four days) almost every single day, changing shirts, tights and jackets only. And I felt really stylish, even though I had so few choices! It was sort of a relief, coming to that from an overfilled closet...

this might be a silly question, especially because i hate artificial "must have" lists- but i want to cull from your living-out-of-a-suitcase expertise a little bit..
i'm a law student and next semester i'm traveling to vienna for a week to participate in an arbitration competition (i'll need to be all suited up- i can handle that part) but i need downtime clothes AND i'm staying in the area for an extra 10 days to travel (again, need to be packing lightly), ideally- i'm aiming to do only one carry-on--- any advice? maybe what kind of shoe you've found to be more versatile? or whether you think a cardigan is more versatile than a casual blazer? what do you find yourself reaching for most often? i'm used to having my immense closet at my fingertips at all times...

style comes from within.

even these fashionista's with chanel's and endless amounts of money just end up looking like a walking label.

you dress from within and that is all that matters.
if anything it just goes to show how amazing your style + you are.

soak up this amazing experience.
your inspiration is forever displayed.

I love how you wear the H&M sweater. It looks so good!

Totally agree with your sentiments. It's the opposite of what I'm going through at the moment. I have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear!

You look adorable as always; I love the red shirtdress. And why shouldn't you want to wear pieces over and over again if you only buy what you love? Or at least that's what I do. :P

I saw that outfit on Lookbook yesterday! I always like to spot you there...
Having a limited wardrobe definitely does encourage creativity, which I think is always a good thing.

Sweet, relaxing and comfy outfits. I really like the purse from Pull and bear. I believe that if you have the creativity, basic clothes can be fun and personal as well. you are a perfect example on that, Rebecca!

I love trying to put things together pieces in different ways. You did a good job with those outfits =)

Bershka and Pull and Bear! I miss Europe so much.

It's funny you say that, because me and my little spoiled self is cold right now. It's only 76, really windy, and raining. But I'm coooold! Haha, you can tell where I live.

The dresses make for vastly different looks.

Having fewer items in one's wardrobe can really be liberating.

What a perfect jacket! I think sometimes we rely too heavily on the quantity of our wardrobe to get us through an outfit, it's a lot more challenging to come up with different looks with the same pieces and I think in our wasteful society, we need to get back in touch with our sartorial creativity and work with what we've got.

You are the CUTEST!

I totally buy new clothes but then keep wearing the same ones over and over.

On my blog right now I am doing a fashion challenge and would love for YOU to take part.

Basically I had my readers pick which five Iconic Style look (ie Euro Chic, Gamine) they wanted me to try out for a week. Each day this week I wear one, then THIS Friday I post pictures and people vote which style suited me best.

Then I randomnly choose a winner from the comments and they get a gift package (earrings, deluxe samples, etc).

I just highly recommend taking part in the challenge because you end up wearing clothes you had forgotten about in ways you never thought you would yet you still look effortlessly put-together.

You have THE LOOK.

I just figure you look so good, you'd be a natural at it :P

You are doing very well with basics only.

You're right! It's great to be deprived of endless clothing possibilities sometimes because it really gives you the opportunity to work with what ya got!

And of course, you must find creative ways to make your small amount of clothes stretch into various outfits!

It's funny how when circumstances change, your attitude towards things can completely change too, in what seems like a heartbeat.

I've been wearing the same jeans for three days. And I'm too tired to care. Your version is heaps more elegant.

I know what you mean, when I went on holiday down south for a couple of days in the mid term breaks I had so much fun deciding what to wear each day out of such a limited wardrobe. I love certain items that I do not wear enough and it gives me the chance to just indulge.

Miss Woo said...

Lovely outfit :)

And I'm feeling the same at the moment, its actually quite refreshing to just rework my favourite items and not worry about what to wear everyday!
