Backpacking Through Athens

Apparently backpacks are hot again. If you didn't know before, you know now. And if you don't believe me, just ask Lulu.
Outfit details: dress- H&M, shoes- Kenneth Cole Reaction, bag- gift, sweater- Banana Republic

Right now, it's Strike Week here in Athens. Every time when we go to the center of town (near our university) we run across riot buses and police officers with shields and batons. Some of the protestors wave flags and signs, others play music. At one intersection there was just a crowd of people silently facing an army of police officers...as always, we are outsiders looking in.
Outfit details: dress (worn as top)- some shop in Japan, skirt- H&M, shoes- Urban Outfitters, bag- Ruche

Wow I really love what you're wearing!
It sounds very organized by the greece people having a whole week just for striking!good for them.

Looks like a peaceful protest. Hopefully you didn't get into any trouble?

That reminds of my time in Seoul. Demonstrations used to be highly organized and sometimes violent there. Riot police is of course heavily armed and people used to get killed etc.. there were the times..

On a more lighter note, you look refreshingly gorgeous in today's photos.

I've been thinking about experimenting with a backpack, but its difficult to wear esp with bulky winter coats, hmm something to ponder. And you look adorable with in two outfits, esp the love the check shirt!

You are looking especially cute here. I love happening upon things like that protest in a different country. I have photos of one I saw while I was studying abroad in Spain.

Beware of the teargas bombs the police throws sometimes, they really make your eyes and lungs hurt. I once happened to be in Syntagma square during a demonstration and I had to run to the nearest ZARA to protect myself from the fumes. Not to mention that the protesters were throwing rocks at the McDonalds' glass windows.
Glad this was a peaceful one.

Wow, that reminds me of the transit strike a few years ago here in NY. Nice outfits and fabulous photos! Given your photography prowess, it shouldn't have come as a surprise that you took a class.

P.S If backpacks are chic, well, I'm totally in! Let's hope curved spines are in too because my backpack is epically heavy.

I find that Europeans always are more partial to backpacks. I don't know what it is, but even when they're not in style here, they are in Europe. Go figure.

I'm so impressed with how stylish you look while studying abroad. I shudder to think of my lack of style when I was in Spain!

During the semester I spent in Italy those who worked in public transportation (buses, trains) would strike regularly. They'd warn everyone a week in advance though which seemed to me excessively polite and organized. I guess the Greeks one up them on that level though. I wonder how effective their strikes are.

And of course, lovely outfit as always!

Susanna-Cole said...

Aw, all your outfits are too cute! I want to borrow your entire wardrobe some time! :P And I've always been rather fond of back packs, they just have to be done right and not just be the regular kind everyone has for school! :P

And strike week sounds rather interesting if not a little scary if things get out of control!

Anyway, wanted to also stop by and let you now I gave you the "I Love Your Blog" award in my last blog entry, because I simply adore your blog! :)

heeey you have a little backpack that looks just like those small library book bags i used to carry when i was little, except mine were always ugly and some poo green colour. haha. looking cute!

Angela said...

actually, before lulu had made that post i was itching around my closet to find a great and versatile backpack. i carry so many books back and forth from school to home and a schoolbag just kills my shoulder so much!! i need to balance out the weight and remain hands free!

so i'm on the lookout for this really great ralph lauren backpack i used to use in middle school, haha.

thank you for getting back to my comment!!!
