The Clothes You're Wearing Girl Causing Public Scenes

I thought I'd fill you all in on a few more details about my Greek semester. I'm a business major (Marketing) so I will be taking some business classes, perhaps an elective, and also a Greek language course. One of the most exciting details is: I fly Sept. 22nd, classes don't start until Oct. 13. This means the first few weeks are spent traveling around the country in a group with an amazing sounding tour guide. Ultimately, I will be settling into a crowded apartment in the city of Athens. Still completely stoked...
Maybe it's the fact that I am soon flying away and won't have access to my mother's sewing kit or perhaps the idea of packing light and basics is the reason, but suddenly I am on a wild DIY kick. This is the first (of several) shirts I have customized in the past couple of days. Like many shirts right now it is very long-waisted (which doesn't suit me), so I have hacked off a couple of inches from the bottom and turned it into a ruffle trim that extends down the sleeve. I'm too afraid to bring most of my vintage dresses with me, so I am trying to step up my basic tees.
Outfit 1 details: shirt- Wet Seal (customized), skirt- Forever 21, belt- vintage, shoes- Kenneth Cole Reaction via Solestrucktheclotheshorse, the clothes horse, nautical, sailor, chic, daily, outfit, personal, fashion, style, diy, customizeddiy, customized, nautical, chic, sailro, daily, outfit, personal, fashion, style, the clothes horse, theclotheshorse
Another new resolution: wear all of the things now that I won't take with me. First up, these shoes. I love 'em, but while I can walk in heels, I can't walk far or fast, so not practical for a girl who doesn't want to take any down time while abroad.
Outfit 2 details: shirt- Forever 21, skirt- H&M, belt- vintage, shoes- Seychelles via Amazon.com

Your DIY shirt looks great. Nice work!

I nodded emphatically at the "while I can walk in heels, I can't walk far or fast, so not practical for a girl who doesn't want to take any down time" part.

I'm so excited for you! I'm going to Greece next summer just for a vacation, but I wish I could study abroad there and really experience the country.

Also, love your first outfit! You did a great job customizing it. I admire your sewing skills. :)

oo that sounds amazing! im so happy for you! love the fun fridge shoot :)

I adore the fridge pics! they remind me of the fall Vogue grocery store shoot. And what an amazing d.i.y. job on your shirt. i am so committed to learn how to use a needle and thread. right now all i do is hack things up with scissors and occasionally hem tape.

i put all my vintage in my hand luggage last week, lost luggage would be too saddening for words! i love your embellishment on the tshirt, quite nautical with the red, always one of my favourite themes!

Both outfits are so great, I love the red skirt in the first outfit. I saw the good news on your flickr page, it sounds truly exciting to study abroad, and in such a different country like Greece! It must be amazing there with all their ancient history...

What you did with that first shirt is amazing! There's no way I could ever try something like that and have it come out looking as good as yours does.

Oh that's excellent you'll have time to travel before buckling down to school! :)

And I love how you trimmed that shirt and made a ruffle, clever! Love the whole outfit really! :)

And in response to your comment on my blog: I'd like to travel a lot myself, maybe have a home in many places, but it is nice, I think, to have somewhere you can always go to, that's filled with personal touches and simply, always, feels like home! :D

Very nice! I always dread packing for anything, but it sounds like you're in for a great time! The ruffle detail is definitely an interesting touch.

I love fridge shots!
Amazing DIY idea on the tee, I can only dread to think how something like that would turn out with me in charge!

That shirt is clever! I love that you're standing next to a fridge, and your outfits, as usual. :-)

Wow what an amazing adventure! And it pays to pack lightly as you'll never know what treasures you might find to take home with you.

I love what you've done with your shirt - that's a great idea :D

Having a couple of weeks to explore is a brilliant idea! When I arrived in Spain I had one whole day to get adjusted before classes. Let's just say the adjustment period lasted a little bit longer than that.

I remember being totally freaked out that I couldn't bring many clothes with me to Europe, but you get use to it really fast. And if you're in a city, the market stalls are perfect for super cheap accessories.

I'm so excited for you and hope you find some time to blog once you get settled!

That ruffle trim is genius! Great way of recycling fabric.

ohhh you take greek lessons at uni? I have been trying to learn that darn language all my life... my family are greek and it has been at times forced, at times i have ACTUALLY tried... but no luck. I just sit at family things whilst people speak and drift off... I still can not understand a single word!

Enjoy your trip!! It is so much fun over there! make sure you get to some of the islands. my recommendation is Rhodes! It is fabulous there!

Hun, what a coincidence! Because thats my major too. I absolutely adore what you've created with your t-shirt. Frills are so cute but the blue and white stripes of the shirt has a very masculine-pirate-esque feel to them! :)

I do hope your venture for 'light' travel proves successful too!

How far into your degree are you btw?

I didn't know you were a marketing major. Cool!!! No wonder your comments often seem relevant to the study of consumer behavior. Blogging is probably good experience in the promotions field. Are you putting the blog on your resume? I think I would since you have such a good one.

As far as packing for Greece. I would pack lightly, but plan to back lots of stuff back, like new clothes, new shoes, etc.

GREECE. I'm quite jealous. Have you ever taken Greek before or are you hoping to pick it up by immersion?
That ruffle! The things you come up with amaze me!
