Fine Plumage

Yesterday's post wasn't really on hair color, but identity, nonetheless it got me thinking about our own bright feathers.
Street fashion sites seem to love redheads, I suppose their hair color catches the eye and adds more drama to each shot. Would these pictures and outfits captured by the Sartorialist be as striking without the flaming hair and porcelain skin?
My favorite redhead of all time would probably be Maureen O'Hara. I love her swashbuckling films where she was consistently feisty and quick-tempered whether at sea, in the wild west, or even rural Ireland.
While on the subject of lovely plumage, these pictures from Audrey Corregan are worth a look-over. Her "obviously" series shoots portraits of birds from behind and can really give one a new perspective (he-he).

Love those pictures, but I'm not sure the fabulous red heads would have made it to streetstyle websites if they were normal brunettes or blondes. Don't be offended, blonde or brunette people - I'm brunette.

Redheads are just so special! I have that bike shot from The Sartorialist in a folder for a long time, some post about bikes I intend to post sometime in the future...

Maureen O'Hara is wonderful, she was perfect as Esmeralda.

I love red hair, and have several pictures saved to my computer of stunning shots with red hair. I especially love the first sartorialist shot, and I remember staring at it for quite some time, when I first saw it myself.

you might like these quotes about red hair! http://lawyerlane.blogspot.com/2008/07/redheaded-quotes.html

also i have to say, having red hair is alot like 'the grass is always greener' to none red head admirers, i'm sure they wouldn't like the taunts or connotations

Love the picture of the lady on the bike, it's amazing. I think much of allure is indeed that striking combo of the hair and skin, it pretty much sets the hair on fire. Love it :)

Hmm you're right about the first two shots. The red hair makes the shot.

ya i agree with dapper kid, there is just something special about the flaming pop of red.

The first photo is the best. I'm really sad that I can't dye my hair red now!

I'm biased: My hubbo is a redhead, and all my best friends have been redheads, so I guess I love redheads!

I love red hair. It's my favorite hair color but sadly, my asianess just doesn't suit red hair! those photos are gorgeous though :)

yay for gingers.

I think for people born with red hair it's something you grow into. i HATED it until really recently (despite being told by my ex that if we couldn't ever have kids [as if i'd want to with that wanker] because i'd pollute his 'perfect bloodline') but now i really love it. I always get compliments by old people, though. and old men, going 'i had a girlfriend with hair like yours, once....'

haha.

i love the bird pictures, too!

Not sure why but recently I have had a new found appreciation for redheads. It might have started when Ashlee Simpson dyed hers. It's such a unique and color. They are definitely having a mayyy-juh come back.

Hmmm when I think of Maureen my first thought is always The Parent Trap:)

p.s. One of my next posts is of a gorgeous redhead...keep your eyes peeled:)

hmm good question? would they be shot by the sart if it weren't for the flaming red tresses? likely not, but i think red hair is a style in itself so much so that it is worthy of street style photos

You're probably right. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the hair. They're really pretty, but it was definitely the hair. I think bright and light hair catches people's attention more than dark hair.

I should know, I'm a brunette, and I think we don't stand out much - unless you're in Scandinavian countries, in which you stick out like a sore thumb!

ahhh, Maureen O'Hara... I will always remember her as the mother from The Parent Trap (the good, old one with Haley Mills of course).

Let me see.. if you think about it. There isn't much red around us when I look outside. Images always look more vibrant where there's a bit of red. Red is mainly used to grab people's attention. Would that be one of the reasons why they get photographed (come out nicely) and get blogged as much? That said,, I do have a box of red hair dye which I bought get some highlight happening. hehe. red is cool

I am biased to red heads too. Lindsay is a great redhead! Anyway, if I am not Chinese I will be dyeing my hair all the time..but I havent seen any Chinese who can pull off colored hair! I think I should just stick to black. & ya, my boyf has been too busy lately :(

I'm always not sure about red hair, I like it sometimes, the pictures you posted are great and I think the red hair gives the outfit and the person something special. My mom is also a redhead, but I'm darkblonde and I think I'm happy about it ;)

WOW red hair can look great!!

I think for the first two photos the red hair made the photographer want to have them, but it doesn't mean that they are beautiful with their red hair. It's the hardest color of hair that woman can carry with success.(which two first two women couldn't) you can make your hair more into red than it's now, cause you can carry it.love,

I also love red hair :]
they seem to add colour to the whole outfit

i've always felt i was supposed to be born a redhead. =/ i envy those who don't have to dye their hair to attain such an amazing color. so jealous.

haha, i love this post. i think most redheads have a love/hate relationship with their hair...i know i have. you just finally come to a point where you accept it (in my case it was after i spent two years living as a brunette).

I love redheads, they always stand out in a very good way. I've never changed my haircolor so I am a bit scared of that but red has been at the back of my mind for some time now. Who knows what fall will bring, right?

~looks at her own red hair~ It's not as fun as you'd like to think. The pale skin that accompanies red hair is ridiculously sensitive and the comments get annoying after a while. As does hearing, "Where do you get your hair dyed?" and "My gosh, you're so pale!" Plus, I've met way too many people with the red head fetish. It freaks me out a bit.
It is a pretty colour, but...the plight of the red head is a long one.
