Falling To Pieces

On the walk to work one of the straps on my purse snapped. Feeling glum and chilly I moved to button my jacket and realized it was missing button. The offending item had popped off last week and I had been meaning to sew it back on, but had forgotten. Even more unfortunately, I looked down at my feet and spied a bright spot shining through my black flats…apparently my shoes have developed a tiny hole and my tights made it obvious to me. The unraveling of my outfit before my eyes seems to reflect my fraying psyche and inner calm. I am stressed to the breaking point and my wardrobe seems to becoming destroyed with me. Quite fitting actually…All in all, said unintentional deconstruction and the fall temperatures are driving me to think again and more longingly of Rodarte. I have loved them with growing passion with each passing season and have verbally swooned about these before, but recently discovered their site. Pale skin, dark lips, tight hair, and deconstructed clothes all seem so appropriate at the moment.
Also, remember when I bought those three pairs of pastel tights from We Love Colors quite illogically in high summer (yah, me neither)? Point being, I am finally getting some wear out of them. These are my orange (also affectionately known as pumpkin for obvious reasons) ones and I really like them though I don't imagine I will be pairing any black with them anytime soon.
Outfit details: shirt- H&M, skirt- Forever 21, tights- We Love Colors, shoes- Blowfish via Urban Outfitters

Oh the tights are great. I'm pining after autumn. I just love the colours. Sorry to hear about your clothes though. I have so many buttons waiting to be sewn back on it's untrue!

Gosh, I am constantly losing buttons and dragging hems all over the place. As a kid I wore holes in my clothes, I wore them so hard!

Lovely pictures, and isn't it wonderful to be able to wear tights comfortably again!

You should be going on holiday soon, no? You surely deserve a long proper break, although one could never tell you were stressed from your pictures or your amazing writing. Or your fresh and original posing. Perfection as always.

Aww sorry to hear about your bad day!
The photos seem very sunny and happy though :)

Your post is thoughtful and amusing as usual. Your Rodarte site link seems to have an error. I am all for colored tights. I did a post about it earlier this year (except sometimes it attracts interesting people..lol someone with a tight fetish linked me..lolol)

Red + orange is an unexpected combo. But it looks good.

BTW,I had a similar experience with my flats some time ago, and I was so embarrassed. Worst of all: I couldn't go back home and change!

sorry to hear about all your clothing travails! i somehow seem to tear up each and every piece of clothing i love -- it's only a matter of time, and usually not an extended amount of time. so, i feel your pain. *love* the last photo!

i love your shirt! and wow is that a bad day! for me when my shoes start to form holes it actually excites me haha, because i always have way too many shoes (i'm literally an addict haha ;) so if i see I devoted enough time to one pair specifically to actually destroy it I feel less guilty haha. but i loathe buttons falling off, i was gonna wear a cute blue shirtdress the other day until I realized like 2 buttons were missing ugh. i'm sorry that your outfit unraveling seems to coincide with your life unraveling. i hope you feel better! :) oh and i LOVE the rodarte fall line, laura & kate are genius, its got a dark beauty to it.

Ugh, whenever I buy anything at all cheap the buttons start to fall off immediately. Oh well--it's an easy fix. I love that shirt. I would never imagine wearing orange tights, but they look great.

in my opinion, making orange tights look good is pretty admirable. :) i love your shirt too. as for being stressed out, i hope that you are able to just take some time for yourself, even if you don't get to go on vacation (ah the life of a student). i went camping for one night this weekend and it helped so much! so hopefully you can just do something! take it one day at a time and do what you can each day. But don't do more than you can do. :)

Ok, I would not write another comment about your tights, but now it's quite undeniable that you have an amazing collection of them!

adorable outfit! I'm sorry about the falling apart though :[ but it can only look up from here right?

lisa said...

Aww I hate it when I realize a beloved item of clothing is starting to fall apart. I get kind of emotionally attached to my wardrobe. Anyhoo, take care of yourself sweetie! Your vacation isn't that far off. Just a little while longer...

It has happened the same thing to me once, one of my shoes had this little hole, it was almost getting in pieces and I hadn't noticed for a while.. Luckily I had neither socks nor tights. Love your tights, the fish pendant charm and your shirt, it all goes so well together.

Is no one going to say anything about the necklace? This is my first time reading, so maybe you wear the necklace every day, but even so, IT SHOULD BE MENTIONED IN EVERY COMMENT FROM NOW UNTIL ETERNITY.

Meaning: I love it.

i'm not kidding here:
sit someplace quiet and cradle one hand in the other on your lap; both palms facing up. close your eyelids softly and begin to breathe easily through your nose.... no rush; just watch the breath come & go... feel your shoulders relaxing away from your ears and your elbows hanging loosely by your sides... unburden yourself. see if you can drop your tongue away from the roof of your mouth and feel a softness wash across your brow. continue to breathe feeling broadness right across the bridge of your nose... and openness at the roof of the mouth... allow the tension to go... allow yourself to be filled with peace and let a sense of calm bring a smile to your face - all is well.

I really love the necklaces!

Where did you get them from?

I'm also trying to work some Rodarte style gothic into my wardrobe at the moment, esp the spider web tights.

I like your turn of phrase in your writing, as well as your outfit here. That 'bulletproof' necklace is possibly the coolest damn thing i have ever seen, ever.

So I have added you to my blogroll, natch! young-shields x

Wonderful pics! And I want to steal all your necklaces. I loved the Rodarte but how anyone can walk on those heels is beyond me.

I love the concept of dark lips & pale skin, with natural eyes. It's so bold & pretty. This is the only thing I am envious about when it comes to fair colored women; otherwise, I adore my natural tan. :]

No orange tights with black outfits? Whassamatta, you don't want to look like an ode to Halloween? ;)

I like this look a lot.

What on earth is happening to your clothes?

copperoranges said...

The strap on my purse broke yesterday too just as I was heading out the door. So annoying! I've been meaning to get tights from We Love Colors for ages - should really look into that...

PS Your shirt is beautiful :D

Wow! You're so in tune with fashion that you're clothes are sympathetic to you. I'm sorry, hun. That sounds so frustrating. Keep your chin up!

I love those tights, I'm considering getting several pairs of lovely colored tights myself, and that skirt is so cute!

I love the skirt and shirt, and the tights are the perfect color!

I work at a really chichi boutique and I feel awesome about my outfits before I walk in there, then become painfully aware of buttons missing, loose threads, pills, etc. Ugh! But in positive commentry, your necklaces are so cool, and those pumpkin tights are really, so striking!
