Gentlemen's Club

I would like to know where the stylish boys of the world are. While I have stumbled across a couple online, can ogle them at street fashion sites, and find a number of spreads featuring them, I have yet to know a stylish boy personally. Perhaps my view of stylish is too narrow or my location too limited, but I just wish I could meet some of these lads.theclotheshorse, personal, style, fashion, streetstyle, street, fashion, facehunter, men, boys, classic, dapper, chic, experimentaltheclotheshorse, personal, style, fashion, streetstyle, street, fashion, facehunter, men, boys, classic, dapper, chic, experimentaltheclotheshorse, personal, style, fashion, streetstyle, street, fashion, facehunter, men, boys, classic, dapper, chic, experimentaltheclotheshorse, personal, style, fashion, streetstyle, street, fashion, facehunter, men, boys, classic, dapper, chic, experimental
I'm feeling a theme from all these gents: slim fit (but not ridiculously tight) jeans, dapper details with vests and bow ties, unique kicks, and that quintessential "cooler-than-thou" attitude.

I have to agree there! These beautifully dressed boys don't seem to exsist in real life - at least not in my town...I'd probably be irritated if I had a boyfriend who was better dressed than me though, now that I think about it.

Nay'Chelle said...

I totally agree! It seems ever guy I know wears polos, sweats, and jeans everyday. I've actually come to not care now since it seems I never find stylish boys. haha

I want to know the same thing!! I'm trying to reform my boyfriend into dressing better, but eh, he still has the whole high school mentality of "dressing well = metro/homosexual". Ehh. Sigh!

And yea, I don't understand negative comments either... It's their time they're wasting, looking and commenting on something they say they don't like!

My boyfriend is fairly stylish, as in I can buy him clothing and dress him up when he is in the mood and we are going out. However I love the skinnier jeans on guys and he definitely isn't the right body type for those type of trousers. But he will wear ruffled shirts, velvet jackets and pin stripe pants, I love the steampunk look on guys so I guess I am happy. the guys you choose did look HOT, especially the first one!

here is an example of one of his looks

have a great week!!

I only see guys dressed semi-well, not quite as great as this, on the L train on my way to Brooklyn. Unfortunately, I don't actually know any of them so...

My younger brother just decided I had a good sense of fashion and should dress him, so maybe there is a glimpse of hope for all the high school age girls in CT.

Rachel said...

seeing as there is a distinct lack of stylish boys in my town I must agree. though in other places, I have found plenty. they tend to reside in cities it would appear.

Lily said...

Are you for serious? Aren't you in a college town? Just stop by a small venue/open mic/coffee house place... where the artistic student goes to recite poetry, join in a drum circle, or play some bluesy riffs. You may also want to look inside the Art/Theatre departments... the people hanging out in those buildings usually look pretty sweet, as compared to the dorks in the Computer Science building (no offense to CS majors, but jeans/khakis and a text t-shirt get old fast). Even in my small college town there were lots of quirky and cool-dressed dudes, if you looked in the right places.

leelee said...

you and me both
where have they all gone?!

The Clothes Horse said...

^Lily, no I don't live in a college town. Nowhere really is my location. My college campus is surrounded by fields and forests and deer. NOTHING is within walking distance though if I wanted to drive over an hour I'm certain I could stumble across some sort of civilization. Trust me, not seeing these sorts of fellows is not from lack of looking!

Katia said...

Ah, I agree so much!
The closest thing to stylish boys I have are metro.. gah.
I love the fellows on the pictures, they all have the sophisticated yet effortless look and I adore it!
I want someeeeee

A stylish gentleman is hard to find indeed. Most guys I know think putting on a pair of clean jeans is dressing up, sigh...

I feel lucky to know several stylish & dapper men!
My date to a recent wedding showed up in his grandfather's three piece suit, with accompanying suspenders, a bow-tie, & no socks.

I was so proud to have him on my arm ;)
(Plus, he color coordinated with me)

Hi! Love your blog :D

luckily i live in London, where a trip into Central London brings together all the stylish guys of the city and I can happily ogle (Lol, i sound like such a perv)

However they still never look as perfect as these

In Yr Fshn said...

They are all in Williamsburg Brooklyn. I get so intimidated even going near the place...

Miss White said...

I think my boyfriend might be more stylish than me! I hope you find some stylish boys soon...

Mariana Sanchez said...

That's true. All the stylish boys living in my location I already know. I like the first one.

anna said...

+ hands in pockets.

these are some beautiful boys.

Dang said...

Mmmmmmmyumyumyum. Some boys at my high school do kind of dress like that: slim jeans, cardigans... I've seen some guys who look like authentic badboys from the fifties.
Not joking.

But the boy with the bow tie is exeptionally scrumptious. I do so love bow ties on men. And scarves, too.

Sunniva said...

I know, where have all the well-dressed guys gone? I have seen some around though, but there are just too few! If every boy dressed like these 4, I would be so incredibly happy. And the cooler-than-thou attitude always makes me weak in the knees!

STYLE DU MONDE said...

I have a few stylish boys on my blog :-)

headmistress said...

aaah, I feel your pain! whenever I see these lovely lads on streetstyle sites how I yearn for my very own, with just the right amount of facial fuzz, good shoes and a penchant for vintage neckwear... I actually do live in a college town but all the boys here are either identikit emo-clones who are too young for me now anyway, or...err... just tasteless. to put it kindly.

Persephone said...

All the stylish lads seem to live in Europe or some other exotic locale. While I know a few who care a lot about how they dress, they never quite seem to pull off a good look. Hmmm, if stumble into StylishManCountry, please post the directions!

Dapper Kid said...

Thank you so much for the lovely comment dear. Love the post, it's freaky that you've described a typical outfit for me...slim tapered jeans, colourful hi top sneakers/leathre shoes, a nice shirt, an interesting tie and a lightweight jacket/vest...eeek I hope I'm not that predictable though!!

Erm in response to your questions, I'm going to try to make a post about it, because it's rather a big subject!

Pamcasso said...

I'm not friends with any stylish boys either, a lot of the ones I meet give off the smarmy hipster vibe.

fashion herald said...

ha, inyrfshn, i was going to say the same thing! just drop by williamsburg, you'll be surrounded.

Hmmm... interesting and inspiring entry!

I believe I know one stylish boy. He dresses in vests and skinny jeans one day, and bright colorful shirts and jackets the next.

I do agree with you though! It seems as if there are barely anything stylish guys. I wonder why that is!

selinaoolala said...

are there many cool haunts near you? record shops, indie clubs, vintage stores? i often walk round town and see no stylish boys but one i go to an indie or elctro night they emerge and i wonder where they've always been!

Dapper Kid said...

Ok dear I'm hoping I managed to tackle part of the issue in my latest post, sorry in advance - it's a veritable essay of a post!

Emily said...

I not only think they have great style, but I also really wanty to meet them. They look so cool! Ha, ha. And thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only who has problems finding great vintage shoes, I know if I search harder I'll find even better ones

Haha, I remember the day I got Jude into tighter, darker, denim.

Ahh..I have tried to suggest on the sly to my lover that he get some "slim" jeans but he is dead set against it. Oh well :)

Vests on men. The best idea ever. I really admire the style of Omar and Cedric from the Mars Volta. They do that whole dapper thing so well.

Stylish guys are so attractive.

pammish said...

discussing about fashion with stylish guys is very interesting! i love how they are particular (or more even) to details just as we girls are! and ive always loved hearing their opinions abt the way i or other girl's dress! :) its really a whole new perspective!

i have a stylish guy friend :) seldom do we encounter that.. and its really fun talking to him abt fashion! :)

Secretista said...

I love stylish guys. I hope my future boytoy has a style of his own.

Beka said...

I like the third (sans bow tie) and the fourth the best!

Biianca said...

all my guy friends wear jeans or sweats with a tee everyday....meh, thats life.
those guys are insanely awesome, but I too have yet to meet a man like that in person!

Aretha said...

I'm loving the second and last guy of these

yiqin; said...

Ah yes! I hardly see any stylish guys too. Guys in my school wear t-shirt wit sport shorts & slippers. Some actually almost wear the same everyday!

bestie said...

i know what you mean! it's crazy, they're everywhere on the net but never on the streets.

my favorite's the third one, i'm a sucker for bowties.(:

I have to agree with everyone, there's not that many stylish guys in my area. Most (like my bf) wear mostly jeans and t-shirts.

Dotti said...

I know some, but they easily tend to overdo...

the Launderette said...

Bottom right is pretty much my archetype of how a well-dressed boy looks.

eighteeneleven said...

I agree with all these comments. Where are all the stylish boys!?

Pratishtha Durga said...

Oh they are too busy getting photographed by the syle spotters. Maybe I should become one too, since that seems to be the only way to find these dapper dudes!

Anna Pope said...

The thing I love about my city is that there's quite the number of very stylish boys here so I never left without the daily fashion eye candy.

I love the second photo but that's more because of his laugh I think.

thesil said...

Love the 2nd and the 4th style, but the others are ok too.

annabananna said...

i feel you! but feel really lucky that my co-blogger is one stylish fella, so i get to enjoy some cuteness everyday :)

yes indeed! and something i can never pull off haha

thetinylittlegirl said...

haha, i totally agree! i never see these stylish blokes anywhere except online.

The Clothes Horse said...

^Anna, I didn't even notice they all had the same pose! Wow, that's a bit frightening. Maybe I have a type...

You are SO RIGHT. These boys look brilliant!

iñaki said...

I am glad to see some menswear around here! I really like your picks, btw. Stylish men don't get enough credit.

xx

Meg said...

Hah. I second your every word. I think that they're highly concentrated in areas where the girls are equally well-dressed and pretty. That's why you always see attractive couples together.

LCL said...

whatever anyone else thinks I think a bowtie and a classy haircut is the cutest thing on a guy
which is why number three is my favorite

1234 said...

agreed! every girl needs a stylish guy in their life....unfortunately i know none either...poop.

kirsty lee said...

i know a couple. if you ever come to london i will introduce you to a few but they're not quite on a par with these ones you're picked i'm afraid.

it's a good city to go searching for them though!

fashionista said...

i wish i could find a stylish guy ,all the boys around me wear polos with jeans *yawn*

Terren said...

they're not in la, that's for sure. if they are, i haven't seen any! :]

my boyfriend totally has that jacket in the second picture. And I see some pretty stylish fellows whenever I roam the Fairfax flea market here in LA

discothequechic said...

it's possibly down to location?
lots of slim fits and bow ties to be spied in london!

they look great.

Ashe Mischief said...

My god, the comments!

Thank you for your reply, love!

I have to admit, I think most men find fashion to be the "woman's domain," and probably need encouragement towards dressing more sartorially. At the risk of sounding sexist, I can't help but think that it may be necessary at times to guide a man towards developing his own style, if he exhibits interest.

Case in Point: My ex, my long-lasting lover, my best friend, Garren, has dated stylish women before me. But it wasn't UNTIL me, that he really cared about how he looked, and what his clothes said about him. It's been a long battle, as I think he's reluctant to spend money on looking stylish-- that's what girls do. But when I or his parents buy him clothes, he's begun to develop a much hipper more stylish aesthetic of his own. I think having encouragement, feedback, and input helps the "average guy" feel less self-conscious about doing it, and makes them more confident in the process.

BdgBill said...

I hope nobody here takes this the wrong way but the first three guys in this post appear to be gay.

I'm pretty sure that anyone encountering these guys on the street would assume they were gay men.

This is one of the challenges hetero men face when attempting to be "stylish".

The Clothes Horse said...

^Bdgbill,
I don't think your comment is necessarily "offensive" but I do think it illustrates why men might be reluctant to dress with style and pizzazz! I mean, they aren't wearing "gay pride" pins or rainbow badges, so what gives you the impression that they are gay at all? To me, honestly these all read "straight"--but really to think you can look at a person tell their sexual persuasion from a picture is completely to stereotype and be ignorant! And what seperates the last man??? He's wearing a thoughtful mix of color and pattern--just like the others, only his is a more typical, casual, and hipster take than the dapper element of the others. Further, the others are wearing classic menswear pieces! These are tailored basics that men have been wearing since the suit was developed!
Honestly, I'm not offended, but I do think it's very frustrating that someone would pigeon-hole others based on their style! This entire blog is about being able to express yourself through your clothes and since when are men not allowed the same liberties?!

tsad said...

Yeas!
Im a sylish boy and I like the slim fit, with a vest or cardigan, some "ked like" shoes and an acessorie. Im glad to see some mens fashion on here too!

I guess I'm really lucky to have a brother who solicits my advice and help with his wardrobe, guy friends who fastidiously research premium denim before buying, and one guy friend who admits to buying Italian GQ for the ads and counts D&G among his fave brands. And hey, they're all straight and they get loads of compliments from the ladies! Something to think about for the guys who are afraid of looking "metro" or "gay."

Feodor said...

well yes, it could be hard to find a guy that looks stunning and has unique style!
but let me tell you that in the city i live there are some of them and well.... they're doing it pretty good ha''
