While at the mall I picked up this darling star print dress. I suppose star prints have been "in" for awhile and are now on their way "out," but as I have stated numerous times before and will state numerous times again I don't care about following trends or being "in." I'm not a hipster, I am decidedly uncool and if I like something (and I can afford it) I will buy it regardless of where it ranks on the hip scale.

I also bought a paint pen awhile ago and have been doodling on certain items rather unsuccessfully. I decided to draw on my laptop however, since the old girl could use some improvement (she is missing a v key and is filthy!) and the results are very pleasing. I suppose I will stop drawing when the whole top is covered...

Outfit details: dress- H&M, shoes- vintage

I love your shoes! And the dress is adorable.
Great design on your laptop!
You do a great job at drawing on your laptop. If you didn't tell me I would have thought it was a design made by the company. And the dress is really cute, whether it's in or out!
actually, i think this outfit speaks a lot about 'trends' and the different ways they appear in real outfits. in england, the waistcoat (or vest, as you call them!) is worn a lot by 'chavs' (or...preps, i guess), the star print is 'emo' (dammit, i hate these labels, they just sound so naff!) and the shoes would be more 'scene' or 'indie'. but the way you've pulled them all together just fits, and creates your own personal way of dressing.
end of ramble.
oh. plus the laptop looks AWESOME!!
I like the star print....oh and that laptop is awesome...so much "cooler' than mine...the hinges are all screwed up and it dosnt even hold up properly...haha...p.s. I watched my 1st silent film..I didnt get the name but I found it on some channel that plays older movies...im hooked now.. =)
The shoes are perfect with the dress. Trends are so overrated!
Who cares about trends if you look great in something, which you do!
Gotta love the shoes, which despite the fact you're not a fan of mod fashion, are decidely mod!!!
I wish I have a bathtub to take picture in!!! Love dress btw :)
Very nice look !!!
i love the 3rd picture. and nice drawing on the laptop it looks awesome so far
this is one of my favorite photo shoots, its so quirky monochrome! the shoes and dress are both amazing!
Hi sweetie!
This photo lying out of the bath reminds me a lot a photo that a girl, who is running at America´s Next Top Model, did...fantastic!
Do you whatch that TV show?
a kiss my friend!

I think you're trendy, but it's cool too, to be untrendy... Very nice dress, and i like the bathroom ! Is it yours ? Is it from 1930 ? I know it's a strange question...
new dress for you, new skin for your laptop! the day is grand :]
Isn't there a contradiction here? You say that you don't follow the trends, yet you shop at H&M? If you are trying to be uncool, why not wear a pair of cutoff overalls or something of that ilk?
Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous! I'm always jalous the way you make your pictures!
the outfit is great as usual and your laptop looks great!
I'm so with you on the trends. I'm not afraid to wear something that is or isn't trendy. I'm not afraid of being called a hipster or being called uncool. I wear what I want, when I want because I like it. Way to go you! The stars are great!
Again with the great poses in odd places! I must admit that you inspire me to do similar shots. Now I just need a tripod...
Lovely dress by the way!
I really like the star print dress, it is probably the prettiest of all the ones Ive seen. Oh and now I really want a paint pen!
ooh your dress is lovly, love the cut&the waistcoat.cute shoes tooxx
i love your dress! also love where you took your pics!
I love the dress. You always have such great little photo shoots. Your poses are perfect.
Always being in fashion is so boring. Keep your cute and unique style!
You look great, no matter the rank on the hip scale. It is important that YOU like what you are wearing. No body else. That bathroom tile is great, as well. I have always wanted something like that to spice up my bathroom.
Adorable dress. Creative poses too!
I don't care what anyone says, I will forever love star prints. I love those shoes. I must have some just like that. Great photos!
Ah, trends...Even in my early teens, I would get annoyed if styles or colours I liked became trendy, because I didn't want to be seen as following the herd if I wore a trendy garment.
I didn't deal with that very well though, and instead of trying to wear what I liked in my own unique way, for many years I chose not to just wear sweats and sporty clothes all the time...
Anyways, that dress looks very cute, I like the print of the tile against the star print, and the shoes are fantastic.
Your drawing on your laptop is amazing. :]
Stars are one of those cute prints that never really go away. The dress looks especially lovely with the shoes. I love your pictures!
Those are definitely the most beautiful laptop I have ever seen.
And just HOW wondrous are those shoes???
being uncool is what it's all about.
i'll bet you knew that already. personally i've stopped justifying my ignoring of trends :)
as always, i love the photographs. you're so inventive with them - the setting is perfect. my internet's been down so i haven't been commenting, but i've been really enjoying your recent posts on 20s fashion. such a bizarre coincidence that i just wrote an article about the 20s, and you started your series... :)
I must say I'm exactly the same, its too tiring, not to mention expensive, to follow trends all the time. Love how you rock the star print with the black and white shoes!
It's good not to be a slave to trends . . .
Love all the B&Ws in these pics - dress, shoes (fab, btw), tiles - it totally works!
I've always loved star shapes in jewelry and clothing, and I'm not a trend follower either. I'm too cheap to follow trends! I'd rather buy things I love and want to wear year in and year out than something I feel lukewarm about but is all the rage.
That dress suits you so well, and I really like your shoes...they remind me of the two-toned shoes on my Chanel paper dolls. :)
I don´t think stars print is "out"!
Will you come to London and customise my laptop?
Oh my goodness, your laptop is incredible.
And that dress is just so cute on you. Screw trends I say.
These are great new pictures! I love the one of you laying on the floor next to the bathtub. It's like 1930's/40's gangster movie meets haute couture. AMAZING!
Little stars are the new skulls. Love it.
i am gaga for your shoes!
really like what u did to your laptop!
This has got to be my new favourite shoot of yours, absolutely love it!
Love your bathroom. Great place for a photoshoot! Is the greeny/yellowy colour photoshop or just the lighting? very atmospheric
Yay, screw the trends, I love the star print dress! I love the photograph of you decorating the laptop and how it mirrors your wonderful tattoo!
The cut of that dress looks very elegant, and seems very reminiscent of the 50s (in a good way, of course)! The print of the bathroom floor reminds me of this too. The star print makes the outfit even better by adding a "splash of modernity", as I'm sure many a fashion luvvie would exclaim!
That dress is absolutely adorable, and your laptop looks like it was meant to be that way. It actually does look professional!
I've decided Being cool is over-rated. You are above cool and the shoes are fabulous!
LOVE the stars!! You are the queen doodle-er. seriosuly.
xCC
Your photos are always amazing, they look like so much fun! I love the stars, I've seen some cute star stuff, but nothing I've found fits me right!
I love the design you drew on your laptop.. how cool!
i love your blog
and your outfit
and the laptop design!
your photo shoots have been so wildly creative lately, i LOVE it!
Your laptop looks really good and those shoes are amazimg
i love the dress and the pictures!
Great doodles!
Great doodles!
Ahh, what a delightful set of photos! I love the tile with the star print :D
The dress is actually from your neck of the woods (sort of)! It's from anthropologie in Philly, that flagship store on walnut or wherever. Which, noting that you're from PA and not just Philly I know that could be anywhere (we have family there and thus have traveled allllll over that massive state)but still!
you look so darling in that dress. i did not like star prints but maybe i can rethink.
Lol at not being a hipster! What a refreshing take on fashion. You are definitely ahead of the curve.
Oh, those black and white spectator pumps are too cute!!
P.S. I love the posing in the washing machine. One time, I went into one on a dare, and my friends closed the door on me. Some friends!!
You have a fantastic sense of fashion - I really enjoy your blog!
And ps... great bathroom!
AGREE! just buy something u love regardless of the 'hip scale'! :) and i saw this dress.. its amazing.. but i wud have wanted it w/o the vest :) but it looks so great on you! - and that's the diff we have in our personalities! hehe
can i just say, u pose better than those girls in ANTM! haha! i love looking at them..
How bizarre. When I was at H&M on Sunday, I saw this dress and immediately thought, "This is so The Clothes Horse!" (because of the vest) and here you are wearing it! You wear it well :)
looks good so far!
I also recently got a star print chiffon dress, from forever21 no less (prof. trendy)
I like yours a lot! and your pictures too
That is the cutest dress and I love the design you drew on your laptop. If only there were somewhere I could find a pretty decal like that for mine *sigh*. I just discovered your blog and I love how you layout your photo shots, very chic :)
The doodles are really really cool. And they just happen to match your black and white motif. You continually mesmerize me with your creativity with unlikely pieces and the variety of items you manage to make your own.
And if you decide to take liz blair's odd advice, and wear some cut-off overalls, you just let me know (I got the hook-up;)
I don't think that stars ever really go "out" of style. Besides, i am totally on the same page when it comes to trends.
But the most interesting part of this post is the laptop. It's totally cool and a great way to smart up the old gal. The design looks wacky enough. Can't wait to see what it will look like when you are done.
I love how your not a trend follower :)
Oh så wonderful pictures!
I love it!
Love Little Peaché
I love star prints, whether it's trendy or not, so I just love your dress! And these pix are amazing too!
I love your shoes, and I agree that it's more important to wear what you like then to follow trends.
Also love what you did to your laptop. I would be too worried about screwing it up to take a pen to it.
I saw this dress in store but didn't like it much.Well..on you it looks much better and I like the shoes a lot.
You are such a creative person! Love your blog!
xx
I am totally digging the shoes!
xx
Oh my goodness, I thought the pics of you in the laundry mat were adorable but this is just fantastic!
Look at your dress! And your shoes!
I think I'm hyperventilating- this is just wonderful.

I agree that my comment was slightly offensive, but I am still one of your biggest fans. You actually raise some interesting issues that I have actually been thinking about for the last couple of days. As you probably know, I am a lot older than you and probably most of your readers. I honestly don't understand your seemingly strong feelings about being cool or uncool. If I haven't offended you too much, I would honestly be interested in dialoguing with you about this. I also have some interest in your ideas as a marketing professor and consumer behavior scholar.
I'm wondering what's going on here. In a magazine I bought lately, there were a bunch of young adults who regularly go out to night clubs, wear the latest fashions, etc., yet they insisted that they were not hipsters. It made me wonder... if these people are not hipsters, who is?
I also saw on another website that they seemed to think that being into "fashion" is for sheep, but they are into "style" or some other word that sounded pretty similar to fashion to me. I was slightly offended by this because I really like fashion, but I don't consider myself a "sheep."
I am also irked by the fact that there are so many people that I know here in rural Appalachia who would love to have money to buy even a few trendy items, myself included!
Anyway, try not to take my offensive comment too personally.
I said that mostly because I don't really understand this attitude.
oh. i really love your pictures, and the skirt!
Here I go, comment number 78!!!
You are true to yourself, something that I admire. I love the dress coupled with those shoes.
I never did like trends. Or better said, the idea of a trend. As long as I love something (be it high wasted jeans or pastels) it really doesn't matter if it's oh-so-in.
I think it's great that you follow your heart and not a magazine, because in the end that's true sign of style.
That being said, I really love the star print dress. And this set of photographs too!
you should definitely print that on a white tee and wear it around. definitely wear-worthy
Lovely bathroom - perfect photo location for a black and white look.
I've seen that dress at H&M, lovely!
I just love the black and white theme. The new laptop design is gorgeous!
Sometimes there's actually an advantage in liking something untrendy--they'll most likely be found on sale somewhere. That's how I wound up with a lot of things I love.
I will always love star prints...
ah i love the shoes, i want a pair!
