Signs of a Good Wardrobe?

I got dressed in the items I laid out the night before as routine and as I walked to work I realized how old everything I was wearing was. Every piece I have owned for over a year and many of them much longer than that. The blue dress was purchased more than two summers ago, the sandals while I was still in high school, and the belt is my "newest" item but it is vintage and purchased while I was in Japan. Yet, every piece still felt fresh and favorable to me, they were still items I adored and can see myself wearing for years to come. Signs of a good wardrobe? Perhaps...
Outfit details: dress- Urban Outfitters, shoes- some shop in Hawaii, belt- vintage
P.S. Thank you to every who has/is weighing in on the hair decision. Your comments are always appreciated and very helpful!

i think is a great thing...some people connect fashion to buying and exemples as yours are important for us to give value to what we have! Fashion is more than buying and you do it very well!
love the dress and the belt!
you are awsome!
a kiss,
Kira

A wardrobe filled with pieces with a history behind them is truly a sign of good style. And a sense of affection. I really love the sandals, my god so rough!

About the hair, I really like your hair the way it is and red heads are beautiful. But I agree that we're still young and should experiment. So if you feel like going blond, then go for it!

The color of the dress is just lovely and it looks great to your hair.I have to say the sandals are not my favorites but maybe they could look good with skinny ´jeans and a white shirt

Lovely outfit, and great photos once again.
I think you have got it perfectly right. It doesn't matter how old your clothes are, or how "out of date" they may be (note quotations, for nothing is out of date... except maybe shoulder pads) clothes are a statement of yourself, past, present, and future.
P.s. I have that dress in red, love it :)

I also tend to keep things for many meany years (well, I'm also a packrat so that's part of it).
But I really don't like the idea of buying something that you're doing to want to discard in 2 months' time.
I know that's a lot of the fun for a lot of people, trying trends quickly and cheaply, but for some reason I really struggle with purchsing things I won't want to keep fpr a long time. I think it shows that you care for and appreciate your clothes, plus it always fun to wear old clothes in new ways (which you're really good at!)

Yea, that is def a sign of not just a good wardrobe, but a GREAT ONE! :) If you can keep wearing things and still loving them it shows how strong your closet is, esp if you didn't realize until just this morning :) nice vivid blue dress btw

I love putting on an item I've owned for years and feeling great! The sandals are fantastic!

The blue dress is very vivid.

I say NO NO NO to the platinum blond. I mean you might look cute but I think the hair color you have now is best. Maybe I say this just because I regretted getting bangs just for the sake of changing...

On Track said...

I say yes to platinum blonde, I have had it before and now have dark hair, but am thinking of going back to blonde :) Maybe we should go for it at the same time for will power hehe

Those sandals are fantastic, that diamond shape in the middle is so unusual and pretty :D

I read somewhere that 60% of people, or a rather high percentage of people, think that they'll be famous in their lifetime.

So I guess a lot of people want to be something big, if you count fame as something big. Isn't that odd, though?

You look so different in that picture! But still gorgeous :)

Wait, forgot to comment on the blues, haha. I love this color accent thing, but for some reason I bought a camera that doesn't have it!!

And oh how I wish I could say the same thing about my wardrobe.. I had HORRENDOUS style even a year to a year and a half ago.. It pains me to think of those times.

yep, sign of a great wardrobe! i would add: sign of a certain, personal style and taste. which is really good and unique.

love your dress today and the way you made the blue stand out in your shots. have a great weekend.

the picture on the right...is that the actual shade of the dress? if so, its STUNNING! just fantastic...

I love what you did with the pictures--the blue, obviously, really pops. I wish my clothes lasted me that long, but I'm still young and growing out of the last of my kid clothes.

About the hair: I think you look amazing as a red-head and can't imagine you blond at all, but it would be a fun experiment.

Secretista said...

Of course it's signs a good wardrobe. What's the sense in buying something if you can't wear it for years to come!!

Shen-Shen said...

Yea.. ME TOO! Except I think he'd have too much work cut out for him.. I'm bored much too often :|

I think it's great that you were able to find pieces that you still love years later.

Anna Pope said...

I think it's a very good thing, having pieces in your wardrobe that have history and that you love like the first day you bought them. God knows I have skirts and dresses that I have bought ages ago and that I still wear with just as much love.

It's better to have your own 'classic' pieces than change clothes every season. That's what makes the difference between fashion victim and real personal style, imo.

I love those sandals!! That dress still looks wonderful on you, and I personally love your red hair, but change is always good, so I also support your blonding of the hair! Plus it will be interesting to see how nicely it will look with your complexion.

You obviously have a good eye for classic items that you can accessorise to make fresh for new trends. The sandals are tops, I really like them!

Miss White said...

The blue in your photos is electric!

You absolutely have a fantastic wardrobe. I wish I had more classic pieces, I seem to get seduced by seasonal items then quickly find I have nothing to wear.

Have you done it yet?! I can't wait to see how you look blonde!!!

A wardrobe with 'good old' items is such a treasure; keep good care of it!

I love to wear 'older' pieces, of myself, vintage or found in my mother's closet. You don't see everybody walking around in identical outfits and the compliments always make me smile :)

Siljesfashion said...

I totally agree. Thats why I love vintage and secondhand, because it never goes out of style.

Lovely dress and lovely pix!

If these items make you happy even after all this time, then that is indeed a sign of a good wardrobe!

ambika said...

I'd say that's the sign of a good wardrobe, or at least of someone who knows their own style. Love those sandals.

yumiko said...

i love all your pictures--how do you edit/add effects to them??

Lianne Camille said...

Definitely a sign of a good wardrobe! I think I've got several pieces of clothing I've bought a year or two ago that I still wear now. There's definitely only a few pieces that have survived the three year mark.
