Hair Diary

Last summer I chopped off ten inches of hair and dyed it for the first time in my life. I went from a wavy, ashy brunette to a sleekly bobbed redhead. Now, I have wanted Titian red hair since before I even knew Titian was an artist. I can see myself as a redhead for the rest of my life, truly I adore it.
However, I am still young and I feel this is the time to experiment. So I am very tempted to dye my hair platinum blond this summer...what do you think?

Ooooooooh I never knew it was dyed! How wonderful that you joined the sexy redheads club voluntarily!

I would totally support dying it platinum blonde though, because that is what I have always secretly wanted to do, although it would look terrible on me. I say go for it, but rejoin us come Winter, OK?

You have such a pretty face and I think blonde would look great on you!

Yeah, totally, go for it! I've been wanting to die my hair platinum blonde for a while but I can't do it at the moment because I'm trying to stay away from chemicals since my health isn't so good. Blah, blah! If I ever get better... Anyway if you go platinum I can live vicariously through you! I think it would look fabulous!!! :)

Your hair is lovely right now...but if you want to experiment, this is the time to do it.

I love it this color, but it's fun to transform yourself. I've gone from dark auburn to platinum blonde and nearly every shade in between, and the only thing I'll warn you is that it may be difficult to get back to the original/darker color as quickly as you might like. But it's always fun, and people definitely see you in a different way based on your haircolor!

do it!!!!!

i was blonde before i died it back to my boringish brown, which now has gone slightly gingery, which is weird.
but blonde is lovely for the summer!

and like you said, you're still young. perfect opportunity to experiment.

Definitely! I did mine gradually, first getting a half=head of highlights done and leading on to a full head. I started off with three shades of blonde and gradually lightened it until it was really light. The great thing about being blonde is that you can easily dye it back too if you need to. The only downside I found is that it was expensive, and my roots looked horrific without a fringe. In the end I went back to brown because I couldn't afford that much money on my hair, but it was fun while it lasted! Sally xxx

I'd so go for it, I'm sure you'll make it look fantastic. and I never knew your hair is dyed either, I do love the red!

I have done so much crap to my hair: Perm, purple streaks (the streaks had to be dyed blonde first), red, purple (which failed miserably). It turns out that I am allergic to permanent hair dye... and henna... so now I can just experiment with hairstyles. I say go for it! If you don't like it, you can just dye it back or something.

DO IT! I mean, I am young, too, but obviously not brave enough to do it myself, although I would LOVE to have platinum blond hair once. So I prefer encouraging you instead! Seriously, I think it is one of the most desirable hair colors I know of.

Hailey @ stylesymmetry.com said...

That would be stunning! I would try on wigs first to find the best shade to go with your complexion. Wow - my hair is too weak or I so would too. Since I am jealous you really shoud do it - lol!

hmmmm
i think the redhead suits you SOOO well but i am furiously curious about how youd look as a blonde......
i guess if you hate you can always dye it back right?

annabananna said...

yes, do it! i think that would look great, especially with your light skin tone. just let someone who knows his business do it. dying the hair so much lighter can be difficult.

yulanda said...

I say do it!

Red hair really fits you, but you're young and still in college (ie you don't have a career where people freak out at you when you dye or cut your hair) so why not? i think it would be cute :)

Anonymous said...

Red REALLY suits you so well... and reading those comments I come think there may be something to the point that so many people would not do it themselves, even though they are dreaming about it. Perhaps they sense something?

Besides, the suggestion of a whig is really great and one of my favourite movies is leagally blonde. ;) So if you find it suits you... go for it!

good advice, try a platinum wig on with some makeup and see how you like it.
but my first inclination is yes, do this while you're young, have fun!
think Nadja Auerman when she had short platinum...

Miss White said...

Wow, no way I'd have guessed you aren't a natural redhead, it suits you so well! I still think you should go for blonde though, I've heard people treat blondes completely differently. Might be an interesting social experiment?!

Shen-Shen said...

Is that.. Is that you in the first picture!?

I love red hair, actually, it's my favorite hair color. It upsets me to no end that I'm asian and can't pull off any hair except for black. Or very dark brown.HOW BORING!

I love the red on you but hmm... GO FOR THE BLONDE!

Lady Smaggle said...

It would look incredible but it's so drying on your hair and can do irreversible damage. I've been wanting to do it for years but I always get talked out of it. But you're only young once and it's only hair. It'll grow back!

Oh no, not me for this one. I must comment to try and stop you. Your hair is very pretty and to make it blonde, I am just not so sure that would be the best for you. You have a lighter complexion and the way you have your hair now just makes everything stand out wonderfully and looks amazing. Especially with the glasses and deffinitely in that picture where you have the pink flower crown on. Your hair is nice, I personally wouldn't want to see it blonde. Although, this is your choice, and this is my opinion.

Do what you please but you did ask for imput on the matter. -)

Natasha said...

I wouldn't have guessed you're not a redhead either. It looks great!

There are photoshop programs you could try to see how it would look. With your coloring a honey or golden might look better than platinum.

fash said...

my hair is naturally a little lighter than yours, like a mousy brown. then i dyed it chocolate coloured, then practically my natural colour again, and then i went for the blonde.
i hated it when the hairdressers told me this, but you might have to do it in stages. peroxide takes its toll on your hair! i let them do the dark brown to light brown change, and then the blonde was completely DIY, so you could definitely do it, you'd just have to hammer it with bleach. even after at least 20 dyes, mine won't go as white as i want it, so yours might take some serious determination. be prepared for carroty orange the first time you bleach, it's inevitable.
in the end, you've got to do what's best for you, be it blonde, brunette or beautiful redhead (personally my favourite, particularly on boys) but i will tell you this - blondes do not have more fun, but they do have lots and lots of it.

I think you look beautiful now and that red is an edgier color.

hilarious photo.

But dont do it!! Love the red hair.

selinaoolala said...

you only live once! although i would spend alot to get a salon to dye it if you are going to go for it, i wouldn't risk a diy job and then our hair falling out!

keepitsimple said...

you got a good thing going - so why change? but i do understand , being young is the time to experiement, while you still have the chance. so if you are curious, go for it! at the worst, you just have to grow it out and dye it red again - although red does suit you very nicely

riz said...

LOVE it! The blond would be totally sassy!

christine said...

Being blond is fun to try, but it is SO hard to get back to a nice darker shade once you realize how expensive it is to keep up/are ready for a change (you cannot get by without CONSTANT touch-ups, and you MUST go to a professional for bleach jobs!). I was blond for years and have spent the last year trying to get a nice deep brunette. It fades so quickly in all the spots where I had bleach put in.

go for the blond look please, I think you'll look perfect in it.

As you say, this is the right time to experiment. So go on and try it if you feel like it!

Your hair looks lovely as it is...but I have to say that as you said "this is the time to experiment" you just have to find a good hairdresser though! I'm sure you will look great on it. So just go for it! :)

Pratishtha Durga said...

Oh... do it by all means. Like you yourself said, you are young and now is the time to explore. You go girl, show them the incredible brightness of being a blonde.

atelier said...

Wow, I had never imagined your hair was dyed!! it looks great. I can't give you advice on how to plait the hair because that day I went to the hairdresser:(! (I am not able to do it myself). Sorry!

Coming from a family of red heads AND blondes, I say that either decision you make will be grand. But I say... try blonde! You'll love it, I guarantee :)
Change rocks.

I'm in the redhead camp :) It suits you so well, I would have thought it was your natural colour.
I'm a bit wary of platinum blonde, but I think it might really work for you and complement your skintone and eye colour. I've always secretly wanted to try blonde, but I know it would look horrendous, so it's always fun when others try it out!

Go for it! Hair can always be dyed again and grown out. That's the fun part. I've dyed my hair pretty much every color you can think of: platinum, blue, red, green, etc. I'm finally natural again and I like it but I had fun with all of the other colors.

If you are nervous about what it will look like, the best bet is to get a wig the color you want and try that for a few days, maybe not in public but in the mirror, so you can assess how you feel with out it being permanent. If you like it, def go for it. I wish I could go blond but it is too much of a change, my hair is dark brown. Good luck!

Ok, I missed this post till now. I gotta chime in, as a professional hair designer my opinion is that, yes you would look great as a blond or redhead. However there are things to think of when using such harsh chemicals all over. So just to educate you I will be the devils advocate.

These examples are only for virgin hair, if you have previously colored hair it's a whole diffrent ball game.

1. you can be a beautiful blond with out using bleach all over your hair. A nice foil with 2 diffrent colors is really nice when going lighter,( formula 1) a really blond color (bleach)and (formula 2,) a medium carmel blond say 7n with 30 vol. This option actually grows out much nicer with out a strong dark line of new growth. Another option would be to use formula 2 all over the hair then do bleach highlights over it.

2. If you choose to bleach you whole head, your hair will have much diffrent texture which is good if you have fine hair but if you have thick hair it will feel even thicker. It will be very corse. If you want to keep your hair long for a while this might be hard to maintain for a long period of time becuase of the integrity of the hair. If you choose to go darker after being platium I would recomend having it done professionally becuase the hair is damaged and can turn funky colors if it is not done right. Or just email me and i can help you choose a proper color. :)

3. Red is hot! But also remember it fades fast and it hard to get out of the hair if, say, you wanted to go blond after red. Going darker after red is not a problem if done right.

These examples are only for virgin hair, if you have previously colored hair it's a whole diffrent ball game.

I hope this was helpful in educating you on your options. Good luck in what ever you choose, You will look great with whatever you choose!!

and...ahhh! i always get all twitchy when people dye their hair if i like it how it is! i get protective over people's hair =/ haha
but...if it goes wrong you could always dye it back!!

Your a truly fantastic redhead, I really like your color, so I vote for it. By the way, if you feel it's time for a platinum change do it! There's always time to come back to red ;-)

enc said...

I think you'll look great as a platinum blonde. You also look beautiful right now.

You'll make a good choice, you always do!

fauxfauxreal said...

I think the platinum blonde would be really great especially if you left your eyebrows dark a la' Agyness Deyn. Also platinum blonde has a punky yet hyper feminine attitude that would be a good match with your style and personality. Having said that you should definitely get it done professionally. Nothing looks worse than a cheap dye job. Okay, well, good luck. :-)

MHBass said...

i don't know, the idea of blonde is fun but i think in the end the red is more unusual and beautiful, and you don't want to ruin your hair by over bleaching and dying it!

nate. xxx said...

Please don't try and turn your hair platinum!!! I am a hairdressing intructor so I know this stuff. Your hair will turn orange because of the red dye so you'll never get the color you wantunless you grow the red out completely and the cindition will be terrible!!! Platinum is SO hard to get and awful to maintain. I would suggest trying something equally daring like a strong red or even slices (where you have a darker, strong color and then bleach the you-know-what out of chunky layers about 3 inches under your top hair layer so you get movement. Something like that but a full head of platinum is a bad idea. As is black, you can't lift that stuff!!!!!

nate. xxx said...

By the way. How about trying some wigs?? Being a daring, fashion forward girl I am sure you could ge away with it and you'll get to try a few trends without messing your own hair up. I have a friend that wears wigs and hair pieces all the time and we are always asking if this is her real hair!!

Spandexpony said...

Well.... as someone who has dyed her hair every color under the sun (including pink, green and blue), I will tell you that if your hair is reddish now, it will be a long, expensive process to get that out and you have to do it professionally. Often, this treatment will leave you with hair that feels like corn silk (it is very disturbing to feel!) and you'll have to cut it off.

The other thing is that platinum is expensive to maintain, unless you like the roots. Also, after I had my hair dark brown for a year or so and went to bleach blonde, it was shocking --and weird-- to see how much people's expectations change.

Lastly, it's only hair. If you're not invested in the length of it, go ahead and try platinum! But make sure to go to the most top-shelf place in town, or your hair may be a wreck!

i think your hair would look good in almost any colour, becuase your coplexion is very light--am jealous
