Secondly, the blog wasn't started with a motive. I'm not in it to make money, turn it into a business, or break into the fashion industry. I'm in it because it is a creative outlet and I enjoy writing and taking pictures (and yes fashion too, but also art, literature, and graffiti). I'm not even sure I want a job in the fashion industry--I'm also looking at law schools...
Also, while style experimentation is great and I do love it--my pictures feature what I wear every day. This is my daily wardrobe where I work in an office or endure the unpredictable weather and the outfits are designed not to offend my bosses, keep me at a moderate temperature, and not kill my feet. I tend to take my pictures at places a pass through the day, but they are really quick photo-shoots (if you want to call them that) lasting 5-10 minutes at maximum--I only vary the location to keep things interesting and well, because I enjoy taking pictures (lots not of myself, I might add!). While Balenciaga gladiators and Rodarte tights sound rad, really I can't afford them and they do not fit into my lifestyle. So sorry, if my wardrobe is boring, but this what I do wear, not what I think looks awesome or would like to wear on a daily basis and just throw on for a picture.
I hope that clarifies things and I'd be happy to answer any questions this post might bring up...
And what I'm wearing (sorry if I bore you); I got a new vintage Lucite bow from this etsy shop. I'm really over the moon about it and I suppose I am "on trend" now with all the bows, but honestly I couldn't care less, my love for it exists outside of trends. Also, won't it look marvelous with a ribbon instead of a chain, maybe bound to either side with bows--imagine the bow-on-bow-on-bow possibilities!

Ahh I love your shoes! I have been trying to find something similar but to no avail! =/
LOL I'm loving your label 'mantra'
I would never call your outfits boring... I absolutely love your necklace and that bag is a swoony colour...
I wrote about not wanting to be 'pigeonholed' too in one of my first posts, but that's before I accumulated my roughly 10 people readerbase!
Wow, this outfit is hot!
Love the bow necklace and your handbag is gorgeous too!
I love your blog and the mix of posts and I absolutely adore seeing your daily outfits and your imaginative photoshoots. Your personality totally comes through. Don't change a thing about it! Its funny, I've been noticing recently (especially with the Agathe from Style Bytes scandal!) that although the majority of bloggers seem to start writing as a hobby for fun, sometimes readers think they have some sort of obligation to fulfil. Don't feel pressured into writing to fulfil the wishes of your readers, keep writing an photographing for yourself. We're just priviliged to get to watch! :)
well said!! Love the little necklace might I add
Hi dear!
i really love your photos and style, you are unique and have so much pesonality...
those shoes are awsome, i really enjoy the way the entire look works :)
a kiss,
see you,
Kira
its a gorgeous bow.
BTW, do you have any tips for my blog? Iknow its kinda random, but Im getting the tips form the best.
I love the color combo... and ur BAG!!!
Love love love the bow necklace! It looks even better on.
Love love love the bow necklace! It looks even better on.
That bow necklace is absolutely divine. Love the pairing, too.
adorable necklace and shoes, and it has never occurred to me that what you do is at all boring. Keep doing what you do!
i've just read that comment and i really don't think that person understands what this blog is about, and i think that it's very clear so she is very mixed up. i think they believe a blog to do with clothes can be pigeon holed into everything new and shiny and experimental from hardcore runways, your blog is truly original and very you, i doubt she understood or even read that much. i love your ethos and think you do evolve in style, i've loved watching your journey and your little annecdotes of your day and how you mix colours and patterns with vintage quirks, your blog is the most personally true out there, just naturally being yourself! just thought you should know :)
&^%$ HATAZ!
j/k
I love your fashion blog, and you are part of reason why I started posting outfits. You do have a very distinct style, and it is inspirational. :)
I really like this posting. It's hard when people misunderstood blogging. It's just fun - we're not playing "Sex and the city here".
I work in an office too and understand the need for professional clothes that do not offend. I love your style, regardless!
this post really made me smile.
i think that's one of the things about blogs these days; there seem to be so many people out there using their blogs as ways of cashing in, or breaking, so the fact that you have such a lovely blog and no motive makes it extra special!
and such a good point you made about these being real outfits, we're bloggers, not models or stylists (or yet..).
xx
I love your style, and I love your blog. I love your pictures and love what you write. It is always thoughtful, and makes so much sense, it is obvious that you do have an eye for the small things in life that makes it so good. Please keep up the good work just the way you have done it for ever.
I love the necklace and the shoes! the whole outfit looks amazing :)
I definitely feel that as bloggers we have no obligation to others, only to ourselves to write whatever we want. Your outfits have been more muted lately as you started your new job and are finding your niche, such is life as we roller coaster along. I think it's great and I am so glad you feature so many outfits.
your shoes are so fab !
I think your blog is one of the most interesting because you take that attitude to trends. It's refreshing to read because it's personal - I certainly prefer that to reading about the same runway trends over and over again! Your blog is great and I hope to see it carry on and develop in whichever direction you choose!
great job on your work outfits, you look professional and stylish, not an easy combination to hit.
the bow is fantastic.
unfortunately, people will always misunderstand & feel the need to criticize. that usually means you're successful. Your mantra is to be admired!
It's a weird sign of success that people start having crazy expectations of your blog!
In my opinion style and fashion are all about individualality and creativity. Anyone can follow a trend. Your blog is great because you are creative and unique. There are so many blogs, even very popular ones where the bloggers are so trendy to the point where they all start to look the same, I find that boring and safe. I applaud you for you individual style.
Keep doing what you do lady. When being true to yourself, you can't go wrong. You are inspirational to many people and you should feel blessed! Keep up the good work!
cute skirt! :)
well said! the things you describe as your reason for blogging are the same reasons i love to read your blog. i don't need more do's and dont's lists, i just want to be inspired by normal people and their own, fresh ways of dressing.
i almost always love your outfits and think your sense of style is truly beautiful! i hope you keep up your great work!
love the moirèe effect on your skirt in the picture ;)
I've always admired what you've done—whatever that is. You are true to yourself. I enjoy that.
I like a lot that office look, especially that necklace, it's so cuteee!
I need to ask you a favour, please, if you could (before tomorrow) check my blog and tell me which outfit do you prefer.
Thanks a lot!
I love your blog basically because it's not only about fashion. No matter what they say, you have a great sense of style.
Love your shirt :)
Those are all the reasons I love your blog (and I think Wendyb has hit the nail on the head).
I'm sure you're right that bloggers need to share their motivation now and then too. I've never done it myself so maybe I should.
I love everything about this outfit!
Oh and do be afraid of Polyvore if you have a addictive personality ;)
Hmm, it seems to me that some commentors need to check their preconceived notions about what style/fashion "should" be at the door when reading people's personal style blogs. There are tons of fashion driven blogs out there, there's no need to demand that everyone's blogs be taken to some sort of professional industry "standard". A large part of the charm of blogs like yours is seeing how non-industry people (ie regular folk) enjoy and intrepet style in their own way that fits their lifestyle.
Although I suppose that great expectations are a sign that people want you to aucceed, there is no sense in imposing suggestions for "growth" on people who aren't asking.
Anyways...love the bow necklace! Very cute.
Showing everyday style choices is surely one of the main points of blogs? If I want to see cutting edge high fashion, I can look at runway looks or Vogue shoots. I read blogs to find out what real people are wearing. I am enjoying seeing how your style develops to deal with the constraints of your new job. Not only is it interesting, it's more usefully inspiring than a picture of a model in a $5000 gown which most people could neither afford nor actually wear.
your necklace is divine! i absolutely love it.
I think your blog is quite personal and the way you express your style is genuine. Those are the things that make a style blog interesting and separate it from a fashion blog.
Lovely outfit and the bow is so quirky!
Oh, I forgot. Just wanted to say thanks for checking my blog, even though it's in Norwegian and not English.
Have a nice weekend!
Your hair looks beautiful like that.
I love that skirt.
I could not agree more with your mantra.
Law school? What's your major?
Hmm found the comment you're referring to and I can't really decide if the girl was just being a bit forward (I mean it is YOUR blog afterall, you can post what YOU want) or as you said kindly, misled. Personally, your unique personal style (which is so different from the whole edgy european neutrals à la Charlotte Gainsbourgh etc, which is cool yes, but isn't as unique as your fun flirty fifties inspired outfits) is what draws me to this blog (you have inspired me to wear skirts & vests more often-thanks!). I like that things aren't always a 100% fashion, because even we fashionistas get bored with that so seeing some neat art or just hearing your occasionally philosophical musings is always a treat. If I wanted something else I'd go somewhere else, so keep doing what you're doing, we already LOVE it & you for that matter :)
how weird!
but everyone clearly loves reading your blog for what is IS so you shouldn't have to do anything differently.
at the end of the day, isn't a blog about anything you want it to be?
for some, it's just an online journal. not a business idea...
we all love your day to day outfits and stories... and other things that you want to talk about, so carry on! x
I hate it when people tell others how they should run their blog. I've always been a believer in the "if you don't like it, don't read it" policy. Anyway, I find blogs like yours much more interesting to read.
PS. Love the necklace!
i think your blog is amazing, and if someone finds it boring or whatever, they can go read something else then! the skirt is so cute, and those shoes are fantastic!
I really love the little poetic blurbs you have in every post, and the occasional movie that you recommend, haha.
Also, cute bows! I have a thing for bows :P
Also, would you like to link exchange? I've been reading your blog for a while now, and I think you may be reading mine semi regularly/whenever I comment, haha :D
Good for you. I loved your entry. Your pictures are fabulous and inspirational (I don't have that kind of courage, yet, maybe after shedding a few more pounds, LOL)and your style of writing is very lyrical. The visual language you use to describe your daily experiences is refreshing and very literary, like reading good prose. Overall, I found your blog to be enjoyable. I, too work in an office and understand the need for professional looking clothes. Your addition of the beautiful bow and the smokin' handbag are just the kind of tools I like to use to add an air of sophistication and flair. The shoes speak for themselves.
You keep writing, and we'll keep reading!
Ciao, Bella
Oh, that Lucite bow is lovely. I'm a sucker for plastic jewelry.
As for your outfits, they may not necessarily always be groundbreaking or super edgy, but I like them a lot. I also work in an office, and while I do like to take style risks, it's simply not practical for me to wear everyday what, say, Susie Bubble wears. I love looking at her outfits -- they're very inspiring -- but I also like to see people in clothes I can imagine myself in, and your blog does that just beautifully.

Don't apologize for being boring! Your style/photos/blog is far from boring. Keep the outfit pics coming!

ps: You're style is anything BUT boring!
you or your clothes are NEVER boring!

I love your blog exactly the way it is--don't change. I love the colors in your outfit. The skirt is really pretty and looks great with the bright blouse.
Personally I find the more personal blogs intereseting - the ones that don't copy-paste from style.com and go on about which high fashion brands shoes or bag they crave because some celebrity has them - but where the blogger has her/his own personal style and write about things that are intersting for her, fashion related or not.Your blog feels very you and that's what's great about it.
And I love your bow necklace. I think it would be great with a satin ribbon!
first of all to me your style is everything but boring! i really like it and you always find ways to combine simple clothes and make them special. i especially like your office-outfits. i'm thinking about going to law school, too, and it shows me that you can work in a job in which most people don't care about fashion and there are some kind of rules what to wear and nevertheless look great!
btw, the bow necklace is <3
This skirt and shirt combo is by far one of my favourite things you have ever worn
It looks amazing on you!
I like a lot your blog. I appreciate the fact you're not for a job hunt in fashion industry or only to play dress up, but you're a sweet and real person with a real life. Plus, the pictures are always interesting and, as I commented before, I love the way you write :-)
i used to live in mid-of-nowhere pa (the mainline bryn mawr area) and in the beginning i thought you might be at eastern... but i don't recognize any of your photoshoot spots. but i love your blog because it's a blog not about fashion but about stuff you like, and the stuff you like is pretty interesting. you have great style--though i never post, i've been a fan-thanks for sharing your life-styles thru blog~
I don't get why we have to justify ourselves all the time!
Who are these people to tell us what we should wear or not?
If we all followed trends, it would be boring. Keep your unique style, you inspire me a lot!
You definitely don't have to do this, but I'm glad that you do! As I see it, you take some trends and incorporate them into your own lovely sense of style, and the result is far more interesting than any runway show.
Oh, and you've also helped me realize it's ok not to be a "pants girl". Some people think this is about some decidedly girly form of rebellion. I just think it's a matter of knowing what works for you, right? :p

i LOVE this outfit. it's individual, but...restrained, and mature, if you see what i mean?
not that you usually dress immature..but.
yeah.
shut up now annah!
