Perhaps it is that when we are young we are forced into dresses (and slips and tights) for formal and special occasions. We don them for church, or special events and are always urged to behave like a lady in them or not to ruin them. After these traumatic childhood experiences is it really any wonder that we might feel they are to fussy for every day?
On a separate note, my friend stole a bunch of balloons from our school cafeteria and she gave me this one--isn't she a doll?

Everyone's posting about balloons lately!
Cute outfit! I used to feel that way about dresses, until I fell in love with them and realized that they are amazing and don't have to be so "dressy".
I love dresses. They're girly, pretty, and chic; you can dress then up or down, you can wear them over leggings or under a cute bolero. I wear them all the time in summer, and am on the lookout for a nice sweater dress for the colder months...
Great photos! Love the song 99 Red Balloons.

Just a girl
HAHAHA. Balloon stolen??? That's so cute!! I love your skirt. Is it pleated? Looks great on you.Loves the color combo.
I agree that dresses are not very hard to wear, but I find it really hard to find good dresses to buy in the first place. I don't know why people perceive dresses as dress-y, but I do always feel kind of akward wearing them to class when everyone else is wearing sweats. Lovely outfit! The vest is a really nice touch.
Funny -- I was thinking about something along the same lines (dresses = dressy) when I was taking pictures of today's outfit earlier this afternoon.
Ah, Im afraid I succumb to that stereo type of dresses, though when I feel entirely too confident I do wear one.
Also agreed...it's so hard to find pants that fit, it's much easier to buy and look good in dresses/skirts. I think that's what's great about them though, you look like you've made an extra effort when in fact the opposite is true :)
Back in the day when i was anti-fashion and in my "yeaa i'm a rocker/badass" stage i too thought dresses were too dressy, and i wouldnt have been caught in one at all unless i HAD to wear one...now i only own like 3 pairs of pants and i go weeks without wearing them sometimes because i'm frolicking in dresses.
I love the composition of these shots...stunning!
People always accuse me of being dressed-up (as if it's a bad thing, I spent more than a minute in front of my wardrobe, social faux pas!)when I wear a dress. But it's actually my easy option, dress, tights in either black or a colour from the dress pattern, lil' black boots, and I'm done. Whereas for me, jeans involve a lot of "well those make my thighs look big, so I need a long top, but that top doesn't go with that denim shade, so change the jeans, but those are too flared with that top, too 70's, so change the top as well, ok that works if I wear heeled shoes..." and so on!
I know what you mean - before (quite long ago actually) I somehow found it hard to use dresses. I somehow found it lady-like as in "Old lady", when a skirt and a top felt like a totally different thing and was ok. These days I almost wear nothing but dresses!
You look really cute with that balloon!
I love dresses, they're so versatile and can last through winter and summer! Some of my friends think otherwise mainly because like you said, the last time they wore dresses were when they were much younger or for a special occasion like a wedding. I guess you have just got to get out the habit of connecting dresses with memories of when you were made to wear them by your mother! The balloon is a great accessory!
what great pictures. why don't you post bigger pictures, they are so good.
aaaw! cute balloon! :)
I think you might be right about dresses...I was an odd child though, I loved getting dressed up in my prettiest dresses and I never grew out of it. We didn't have a uniform in primary school and I used to wear pretty, flowery dresses right up to when I was about 12. All the other kids would be wearing jeans and jumpers and I used to get totally mocked over it! I went the other way for my teenage years and only wore jeans but that had a lot to do with trying to fit in and be as grown-up as possible. Now I'm back to embracing the girlie side of myself and I wear pretty dresses when ever I feel like it (alot!) I do feel a little out of place sometimes though - especially if I'm in a social situation where everyone else is dressed in jeans and hoodies. Maybe a hung up from my teenage fears of being laughed at for being too dressed up...or for being seen as vain? (That has happened to me!)
Hmm! I like the way you think about these things...and get us all thinking about it too!
Wicked balloon...just thinking about the dresses thing, I think it was Suzy Menkes who wrote an interesting article that women have actually become afraid of trousers.... and that their daily uniform of a dress in the past few years have really taken over.... a sort of counterpoint to what you're saying...
Agreed people have always asked me why I dont wear sweats or jeans when I feel lazy. But in my opinion dresses are much easier.
That's a balloon!? I would've thought it was a cool-shaped pillow if you hadn't stated otherwise..
That said, I do often find dresses easier to wear than pants, just like you, and can't get used to the comments of people who feel that pulling one piece of cloth over your head (IE the dress) is such a 'try-hard' thing to do. Trousers, apart from the jean kind, are still strictly for work, I'll have to revise that soon..
she's a doll!
dresses are much easier!
i like your flats!
nice outfit!!!
i also have clothes too old, but i still loving it...sometimes i wear it more and sometimes i don´t wear for a while, but i really sometimes don´t want to give them away!
hehehe
a kiss and a hug,
see you,
Kira

u make them look great.xx
These pictures just make me happy
and I adore wearing dresses, I alawys have!
I agree! I'm much more comfortable in a dress than jeans. Even though I wear jeans quite often.
I agree too! I am more confortable in a dress than in pants.
Your pictures are lovely!
What lovely photos! They seem very professional!
Adore your ballerinas!
*jumps in to the balloon*
I love the outfit, but your balloon takes the cakes. Very cute. (reminds me of my Bat Mitzvah, which had a celestial theme. Ah, to be a 13 yr old nerd again!)
I used to love wearing dress and skirts when I was younger, then for some reason when we moved in grade five I stopped. I think my love of them has finally returned though.
You look soo cute, as always. I get so inspired by your blog. Keep up the good work,

You hit it. I have "feelings" about dresses because they always demarked some special occasion—perhaps dreaded. I had one dress I actually liked wearing, and the rest were a forced march. Now, I love dresses, because they're so easy—the no-brainer solution. And they're very, very comfy.
Dresses are my fave. thing to wear :]
I agree, they're infinitely more comfortable than jeans/pants, and so much cuter/more flattering too!
I couldn't agree more! I like to wear dresses all the time.
I wear dresses all the time, i actually find it easiser all I have to do is throw a cardigan on and some shoes and voila!
I love the outfit, the ballon and the pics!
