Today I was watching "True Life: I'm In Debt" (I really love the True Life shows) and for those of you who don't know, each episode follows a few young people around with some common thread. These are completely ordinary people and the show is shot like a documentary. This episode focused on young people who had amassed a large amount of debt. The ironic thing is each commercial break featured an advertisement encouraging the viewer to give up the slow process of check writing and spend their money faster with credit cards!

Isn't this how we get into trouble with so many things--speeding the process up until we miss the pleasure? You don't notice your depleting bank account when you don't balance each check in the front of your book immediately. Your brain doesn't process that your stomach is full if you scarf down you food at top speed. I hardly ever get sick until the weekend when my body finally has time to relax...
Shouldn't we all just take some time, slow down, and smell the forsythia?

I like the contrast of the red cardigan with the dress.
Totally agree with you, high-speed consumerism is the plague of our generation, credit cards and debts as well.
I'm totally against credit cards and spending money you don't have so mine is blocked.
But then again it's not about the 21st century only, I went to see an exhibition on Marie Antoinette today and I realized that what I thought was a mere rumour and complete exaggeration, that she put the country in debt because of her crazy spending was actually true.
She did have some gorgeous china and wonderful furniture...
oo i love true life haha! the one on terets was fascinating!
love the dress and cardy combo :)
I love the brown belt with the red cardigan lovely!
checks and red, a lovely combination!! i definitely think we move so fast, yet time that seems to be going slowly can suddenly be up. i find if i do nothing all day, the next it will feel like the day didn't even exist, but if i do lots the day is worthy and full. bank balances are a sore subject with me at the moment though...
I love the checkered dress. And I agree, although I know I spend way to much its just so hard to say no... but I'm not it too much debt.
great outfit!
your totally right by the way lol
im going to uni this year and im already stressing about debt and stuff lol.x
Oh my I Loveeed that dress! So Pretty
C.
I like your red jacket. I guess consumerism is starting to be an illness to many people. Especially now that economy is in trouble, we must be careful!
these arent my favorite looks, but I like the army jacket.

More forsythia, less frenetica.
i love that you write things and post your outfits .. one day i'll get a grip on this fashion blog thing!
you are so right. i was reading about how shopping can become an addiction and it really has made me come to my senses about always wanting more and more and not working with what i already have. debt is so vicious.
I agree, we are very used to instant gratification, and I'd be lying if I said I was above it.
I love that checkered dress!
And...oh, True Life. I went through a phase wherein I began to use 'true life' as a catch phrase to describe my own life, as in "True Life: I have to do homework tonight and cannot go to the bar." No one really thought it was too funny.
Oh!How fabulous combination of the squared dress with the red jacket!
So true, so true. A very simple, but essential truth!
wow have i missed out a lot.
and i agree with what you wrote.
your outfits? great styling as always!
oh. great tattoo you got there.
it's delicate and lovely.
if i was a passerby, i would certainly stop you and ask what is that bird and what is the story behind it!
I am in love with that little check print dress!
So sweet!

Great outfits and a wonderfully written post, as always!
Nice outfits!
I didn't know about this show, but I agree with ur remark in the second part of the text, and ah, love the plaids + red. And the belt!
This problem is even more accute in the UK as we are going through a major credit crunch....
Love the gingham and red looks wonderful together!
I think that's the curse of being a student at least with no regular income, that's why I stay away from credit cards!
Wow, you have SO many clothes.
I adore the belt!!
Ok, let me name this outfit my favourite so far!! :D
xx
Amen! I smelt the cut grass on my way home today, to die for!
I agree with you, even though I pay almost everything with a credit card. My bank is off the internet variety and I tend to save all my recites and check them against my bank statements regularly to make sure stores don't charge me twice (which has happened...).
Love the checkered dress with the red cardigan. So cute!
wow. i really really like this style. :-)
Love the red cardigan with the paid dress.
