Rediscovery

I feel like I am rediscovering or finding pieces of myself that I had lost or forgotten lately (although sometimes you never realize something is missing until you find it). I stumbled across my favorite gold butterfly earrings, a gift from my mother, this weekend, and then today I went to the library with a friend. As a bookworm I used to make weekly visits to the library struggling out with nearly more books than I could carry (somewhere between 7-10 a week), especially when I was younger. This semester though I've been re-reading old books or books I've received as gifts, so it had been a while since I had ventured back into the stillness the library offers. I really love the atmosphere when one is surrounded by books and quiet--there's a sense of anticipation and potential, like anything could happen and just might. I'm looking forward to more frequent visits to my favorite place this summer.

I'm going to start posting where my items come from, if I can remember! Dress- vintage (bought at the antique shop last weekend), beret- uniform store (part of my old school uniform), belt-vintage (bought at a vintage store in Sapporo, Japan), shoes- Urban Outfitters, tights- Target, bag- the Stadium Swapmeet (Honolulu, HI)

And before I forget: Please participate by voting in The Undie Awards; the organizer will donate $.25 for each individual voter to the National Cervical Cancer Public Education Campaign. And the voting ends at the end of the month, so don't delay!

that dress is lovely! i love the library too, i haven't been to a library which isn't my university one in so long! i keep buying books online, which is nowhere near as fun as finding them and picking them up from the library.

I've been meaning to re-visit my local library too.... it's one of those places that doesn't seem to ever change... love the dress...

I love the detail on your dress! I too think the library is a mysterious place. In my hometown library, the children's section is in the basement. It's one big room that's always brightly lit. Next to the children's room however is a maze of hallways and smaller, unlit rooms housing random books and furniture. When I was younger I always used to poke around in the back rooms and imagine that I was a character in a British murder mystery because the setting seemed so perfect. Strange, and embarassing to admit, but true!

this library seems so cosy. no wonder for you to being a bookworm!! :P
luv your belt.

the earrings are so lovely. i own similars, but they're silver.. i definitely prefer yours in gold.

I like your belt! Libraries are the best to relax. I love going to my Uni library because there are thousands of books, and normally it's so quiet that you almost (as you said) can feel the potential inside books. it's an interesting connection

Btw you know that you're always welcome to stay at my place in Paris if you come and I'm actually there and not in the UK. ;) I would take you vintage shopping!

Sorry for the non-related comment, but, can you borrow an average of 7-10 books from a library in America?!!!

I couldn't imagine taking photos of myself in our University library, was it a particularly quiet corner? I haven't read for pleasure in a while, too much studying!Love those earrings, it's great when you discover something you've forgotten you loved so much!

I actually got my friends kicked out of the library today because I was being too loud, (in my defense, one of my friends had stolen my computer!) and then the anal librarian proceeded to say that the entire senior class was banned from the library, (this was brought on my more than just me).

Then I went to the Boston public library this afternoon for the first time in months and remembered how I had gone every week when I was younger. I am a bookworm too....

You look very cute, kind of Parisian, (I guess berets will do that) and sorry if that was a long vent!

discothequechic said...

7-10 books a week
sheesh!
you're the real life matilda!

i'm a bookworm too, but sadly don't read nearly as much as I did. I used to read for hours and hours before secondary school.

ironic that the place you go to learn kicks away such valuable hobbies with the vast amount of homework.

i could vent about this issue for hours! but i shall spare everybody, hehe!

The library is my life. I love the earrings. I have some butterfly ones, but they look really cheap.

I love the library too, although I haven't been there in awhile.. Have you ever been caught taking pictures of yourself in public?

Jimena said...

Don't we all just love your pictures and posts?

I like how your university always seems so empty and quiet. I wonder, where do you find these spots?! I've read you freeze in front of the camera when its held by someone else and so do I... therefore most of the time I can only take pictures in my room...

I used to read a lot of books too, especially fantasy/science fiction, but now I find that I'm too busy for it. Which is a shame, cause I like pulling all nighters getting caught up in a great book!

On another note, I love that beret! And that dress! Also.. Do you have other people take your pictures for you?

Shen-Shen said...

And yea, it's weird isn't it? How people seem to be growing up so quickly! Fourteen?! And expelled for selling pot?! That's upsetting, and a shame :[

Life should just be... grand! lol

The dress is beautiful, and the beret really tops off the outfit!
I used to love going to the library as a child, but now the word library just conjures up images of there being no books available for the coursework I'm doing!!

Love the dress and the butterfly earrings. Besides loving books, libraries were never a fav place of mine to be, as I'm allergic to dust:-S However, it's lovely the stillness of the place. Looking forward for more pics of urs there in these next months;-)

I also love the library - the smell is just so consuming and the sound of silence so rare in the 21st Century. Its unchangable and I like that. Lovely dress x
