We all need more art in our lives, so today I bring you the clean, elegant, and sometimes sensual pieces of Polish Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka. While her personal life might not have been as pretty or organized as her art, these pieces are to be admired. What is most striking to me is the expressive quality of the eyes.
wow! i have never seen art like this before...thanks so much for sharing, this is simply fascinating! i know so little about art, but to me this looks like distorted photographs or something just brilliant!
I have a Tamara print of a nude woman in my office. It's lovely and subtle. Some years ago in San fran I saw an exhibit of her work at that little jewel box museum on the water--where part of Vertigo was filmed.
you're right, the eyes are very expressive, and aren't the eyes one of the hardest things to draw? or is that an art cliche? But you can definitely see how the mood is different in each picture because of the eyes
These are so beautiful and inspiring. From the lovely hairstyles, the sultry chic makeup and the elegant outfits, we can all take so much inspiration away from art, thank you for posting these :)
They're gorgeous. I like the tonal range, the colors, and the quality of light. I also see Constructivism in those last two. Perhaps because she's from Poland.
these are lovely, you are right we all need more art in our lives! the girl in the green dress was on the front cover of my great gatsy book at school, was such a well matching image to the story.
you know, I always knew there was a reason I loved your blog! Lempicka is fantastic, I've been lucky enough to see a couple of her paintings in real life!

You're right. The eyes look so alive, I especially like the one of the green dress. You can see the movement of the dress so well!

The second image reminds me of Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Clyde. Lovely.

She managed to capture the essence of her time.
Great colours and textures in these too, lovely.
Huge fan of Lempicka's work.... have so many of her postcards plastered on my wall

These images have given me a little pick me up today!
I love them, esecially the woman in the green dress. You are right about the eyes.
Very lovely!
I just asked about GCC because I thought I remember reading that they do some sort of "creeking" tradition... Maybe I have my schools mixed up!
Wow, it's all beautiful.
I specifically loved the bottom left picture, it's so unique.
